  1. An 11 year deal for Tucker is bordering on insane to me. He's already 29 and is a corner OF at best. Everything being equal I would take him over Bo in a second, but 3 fewer years and nearly $200M less? That heavily favors Bichette. Edit to add: I also believe Bo is not going to age well. Tucker likely ages better but over 11 years is asking a lot.
  2. This is basically a 4 year deal. Getting a vesting option based on appearances for a reliever on a team with JS as manager is brilliant on the agent’s part. Rogers will reach 110 appearances between 2027-28 by like May 2028.
  3. Feels like they will definitely end up moving Berrios. Atkins recently had an opportunity to cover for Berrios' absence during the playoff run and Ross basically said "yeah he was unhappy with not making the roster". Atkins is the master of using a lot of words while simultaneously saying nothing at all, so the fact that he was so blunt about that might mean something (or nothing at all). I guess we will see. I kinda like the idea of having 6 SP's and Lauer is a major regression candidate to me so replacing Berrios with even an optionable depth SP would be ideal.
  4. Given where the Jays are in their competitive window/win curve, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Tiedemann ends up being that lefty at some point this season.
  5. Rogers had 77 and 81 appearances the last two seasons. A durable relief arm with John Schneider as manager is a recipe for an insane amount of appearances.
  6. Atkins probably has FU money to spend this winter if Rogers at $12M+ AAV was added before the big FAs came off the board. Atkins moves typically come out of no where (see Cease, Ponce, and now Rogers), so the fact that they are so specifically linked to Tucker makes me think they'll end up signing Bo.
  7. My gut reaction is too many years/dollars but if anyone will benefit from not being able to strike anyone out it will be Rogers with the Jays defense behind him. Hoping for the best.
  8. Top 3 MLB payroll, modernized stadium renovations, state of the art Dunedin complex, respected by players/agents/league. It's amazing to see what the Jays look like after 2025. Forget 10 years ago, even telling someone that 3 years ago would have been shocking. I've said before, if this org just started developing talent at a better clip, then they'd be one of the top ones in the league because they generally sign well, trade well, and are willing to spend. Hopefully 2025 was just the beginning of that happening (Barger, Yesavage, etc).
  9. Kenley Jansen is the type who could have an ERA of 7.86 in August and still be the closer because of track record and faith. Avoid.
  10. I think that's what it is. If the Jays are going to sign Tucker (for example), then they probably don't have $15-20M AAV left for a reliever. I'm sure the Jays are willing to get into Cohen Tax territory but Atkins likely still has a level that he doesn't want to (or can't) cross. Removing emotion out of it (Game 7), I think you can make a reasonable argument that Hoffman as closer again might be a fine scenario. He projects reasonably well for 2026 and it's possible the unusually high HR rate could normalize next season. I think adding a RP who can pitch the 9th inning but doesn't have to be the "closer" might be the best way to go from a cost standpoint. Someone like Luke Weaver might make sense in that regard.
  11. Two years after this thread was created, Boss Atkins was literally one inch away from being guaranteed a spot on the Level of Excellence. Crazy in hindsight. But yeah, the glazing of Moreno was exhausting. Glad common sense has come back into the picture.
  12. Yeah, Pinango was not selected. Good call by the Jays leaving him unprotected.
  13. JP Ricciardi Jays vs Mike Elias Orioles in a "white off" would be an interesting comparison. I don't think it's possible to get whiter than JPR, but the Orioles are probably close.
  14. Wouldn't surprise me if Bellinger goes to the Mets now.
  15. Tucker on a short term deal with the Dodgers unfortunately makes a lot of sense for him. I’ve said before I don’t think his market realistically involves that many teams, especially now with the Phillies presumably out and the Yankees focusing on Bellinger or cheaper alternatives. If he doesn’t have big market teams driving up the price on longer term deals, then a short term deal on a higher AAV is probably the smartest way to maximize his dollars. MLB players usually prefer more years so curious to see what direction he goes in, but I think the Dodgers might be a real possibility for him now.
  16. Sounds like the Orioles had the same offer to Schwarber as the Phillies. Maybe they could be a suitor for Tucker.
  17. Diaz is 3 years younger than Suarez with a better track record and got 3 years. Wonder what Suarez's market will look like now. Also Schwarber's deal takes the Phillies out of the Tucker sweepstakes most likely. The Yankees are counting pennies, and the Dodgers apparently only want in if the deal is shorter term/higher AAV. The Mets need an OF but Stearns while having unlimited financial resources wants to be the smartest guy in the room (Soto was a Cohen signing), so not sure he's going to give out a massive deal for Tucker. The Red Sox are trying to trade an OF. I'm not sure where Tucker's market other than the Jays is going to come from.
  18. It's 3/69 for Diaz according to Passan. That's not bad as far as term is considered. Three years is nothing. Not sure why the Mets couldn't have beaten that, especially since that's their own FA.
  19. Bieber got TJS in April 2024, so by the time he started his first game with the Jays, it was 16 months post surgery (and he started pitching much sooner than that in rehab games in the minors). The fact that the Jays got what they got out of him is actually very good fortune. I think/hope he will be fine by Opening Day, but it does make sense to have an extra SP just in case, even if they end up moving Berrios.
  20. Sounds like he already cleared waivers so likely no trade on the way. Basically what Straw was with the Guardians: off the 40 man but still in the org. If he can pitch in Buffalo in 2026 then that wouldn’t be a terrible scenario. Could always add him back if he figures something out.
  21. Wow that's surprising about Yariel. Hopefully someone trades for him and the Jays aren't on the hook for the rest of his money. It's not that much but could save some bullets for bigger signings. Either way, I like that the FO isn't letting money dictate decision making. They didn't think Yariel was worthy of a bullpen/40 man spot, and they cut bait.
