  1. Is this fake or just what that person from MLB network suggests?
  2. Lots of interest on Tyson Ross, not just from the Jays: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25251284/jays-astros-dodgers-rangers-among-teams-looking-at-tyson-ross
  3. Still 4 days away.. we still have time to add. As for the Mets, they have to make the playoffs this year, or else Collins and Alderson are gone. And with the Nats badly under-performing (next to Boston and Seattle, one of the most disappointing teams this year), Mets have an opportunity to get Thor and co. to the postseason. FYI, Matt Williams likely gets canned if the Nats miss the playoffs. With the Giants surging, it's either win the division or else.
  4. If the Jays don't beat Adam Morgan and Jerome Williams this week, they're pathetic! I mean, those starters for the Phillies are awful. That's 2 free wins there. Take advantage!
  5. If we don't do it, someone like the Yankees or Dodgers will. And we need to acquire a starter ASAP. I mean, we're the only team even close to the Twins and Astros in the standings.
  6. Add the Tigers to the "sell" list, as they absolutely sh*t the bed vs. the Red Sox. Ortiz plated 7 RBIs tonight. And Shane Greene has a bus ticket to Toledo to the Mud Hens after that debacle.
  7. Team's payroll situation is still pretty good compared to other teams (except for the awful Reyes deal.) I mean, we could be the Tigers or Red Sox, with bad, unmovable contracts.
  8. You also realize we have no days off after tomorrow's off day until mid-August, right?
  9. Padres still talking to the Jays re: Kennedy/Cashner/Ross and even Kimbrel. Can see this happening.. Padres are in full fire sale mode right now, as they can't afford their payroll long term, especially being such a disappointing team:
  10. Which will never happen, as Bautista has 10 and 5 rights and can refuse a trade. So stop it. And Travis needed a day off.. he's coming off an injury, if you remember.
  11. Royals are not great management. One playoff appearance in 29 years, and mortgaging the future for a short term guy who they have zero shot of resigning. And remember, this team is losing Gordon at years end, and faces salary issues with a number of their players, which may require them to make trades. And BTW, the Royals farm isn't exactly teeming with position players.. lots of pitchers, but not much else that projects as regulars.
  12. Basically. But the entire AL outside of the Yankees, Royals, Angels and Astros has been bloody awful. At this point, it's between the Twins, Jays and Orioles for the 2nd wild card. Not including the Tigers or Rays, as both are expected to sell. And BTW, the Twins need a lot to even stay in contention.. they need a C, SS, OBP help, a power reliever, and another starter. Reality is, they're more likely to be a contender in 2016 than this season.
  13. 22-27 since the end of May for the Twins, Jays are 16-20 since the winning streak. So it's pretty much even.
  14. If the damn AL wasn't so weak this year, I'd agree. But not this time.. I still don't see Minnesota as a contender because of their pitching staff and average offense. And this issue could also be said in Baltimore and Tampa. And let's not get started with Detroit...
  15. Gibby's hands WERE tied. Hendriks pitched 2 innings last night, and no way you use Osuna unless it's for a save. Plus, considering we were in extras, we can't just use relievers willy-nilly, unless it's September when there's 30+ players on the roster. Workload has to be considered as well.
  16. Pretty consistent. The 2007, 2008 and 2010 teams had strong 2nd halves.. but not enough. What the Jays need is a hot 2nd half.. which might be enough this time, as the Twins are basically a bubble team that is unlikely to hold up down the stretch, due to a lackluster pitching staff and many of their players playing well above their head (they've been awful outside of that 20-7 May)
  17. Cardinals. I can't see the Royals going deep even with Cueto.. they've still got multiple holes in the starting rotation of guys who will get hammered vs. the Yanks, Angels, and whoever wins the wild card. I mean, before Cueto's addition, they've got 4.30 ERA in starters (Jays are not far behind at 4.37). Bullpen isn't going to keep bailing them out.
  18. Of course, as I mentioned, KC has to win now, because they face significant uncertainty after this season, as their payroll situation will make it difficult for them to keep the team together. No way they're going to a $140M payroll (if they pick up all options) in that market, and that doesn't include Gordon. After all, they're a similar sized market to Cincy. No way they want to end up with an Votto-level albatross like the Reds have.
  19. Lucky KC is deep in pitching prospects.. but yes, Cueto must stay healthy. Royals cannot afford to end up sending guys like Young, Volquez, Guthrie or Ventura out in a playoff series if Cueto doesn't go, especially if it ends up vs. the Angels or Yankees (they got swept at Yankee Stadium earlier this season, BTW.)
  20. Hey, at least we didn't give up 3 pitching prospects like the Royals for 3 months of Cueto, especially when their window slams shut after the 2015 season (Gordon's a free agent, one of Davis/Holland will be traded due to salary issues.. actually, Davis could be a free agent if the Royals don't want to pay his raise.).. and Escobar is getting closer to free agency as well. If he didn't have that cheap option, he'd be getting $15M+/year in free agency. And Cain/Moustakas are due HUGE raises. Whether the Royals sustain success will depend on their farm system development. They have lots of pitching talent in the system, but not so on position players.. Raul Mondesi and Hunter Dozier have taken huge steps back this season, and Bubba Starling still is a question mark.
  21. I agree. Hurry up and add an arm, AA! Don't just sit there.
  22. Not with the Phillies on the sked, and a Royals team that was pummeled in New York earlier this season in a small ballpark. even with Cueto, I don't really care for that pitching staff at the Rogers Centre. And we have the Twins we're chasing next week.
  23. Royals yes, Twins no. Twins are a sub .500 team if you take out their 20-7 May. It likely explains why the Twins have not been linked to any rumors. Still a good chance Toronto, Baltimore, Tampa, Detroit and Texas will still be in it by the deadline and into August. Heck, Chicago could still be in it.. they're only 5 back of the Twins.
  24. It'll take less than that. Minnesota's not going to sustain their success. It'll likely take 35-37 wins to get a wild card from here. The Twins have a brutal sked in August.. there's a good chance they'll be out of it by the end of that month, and their September is no better. It is important for the Jays to add a pitcher ASAP.
  25. At least we didn't have an o-fer road trip out west like last season. Still a disappointing finish. Regardless, we're still only 3 and 5 back of a wild card, as neither Minnesota or Houston took advantage. Houston could be in for a tough week.. they play the Angels. And Minnesota showed that they may not be in it in October, with that pitching staff. ANd they've got Pittsburgh next, then these Mariners we just faced, who seem to be turning around offensively, since they made Edgar Martinez the hitting coach. At this point, I'm no longer concerned with the Yanks.. they're running away with the East at this point. Aiming now for one of the wild cards.. Minnesota I can't see adding much and will likely fade down the stretch, and who knows what Houston will do. At this point, us, Tampa, Baltimore, Detroit, Texas and even the White Sox can't be counted out.
