If this stays tied, Mariners could be in some trouble.. Nuno and Wilhelmsen aren't likely available (40+ pitches each yesterday), Smith is not available (3 days in a row), so it'll be either Rodney or Beimel next.
And Carrera just saved a run there! But can we get Pompey up here? Carrera's blunder was inexcusable.. although you can imagine MLB will be looking at this play. I saw interference from Zunino there.. he pushed Carrera there. Anyone know anything about the rules regarding what happened there?
And Carrera makes up for his blunder with a homer!
And after Cueto, the rotation is still not strong enough to face the Angels, Astros, Twins, Yankees or Blue Jays. I mean, you still have Guthrie, a soon to regress Young, a inconsistent Ventura, an erratic Duffy, and Volquez.
Cueto's not a Royal yet.. and there's still a chance someone swoops in because of this leaking to the media:
Watch the Yankees or Dodgers or a mystery team to swoop in..
Of course we need to win today.. we have a huge home stand coming up, against a horrid Phillies team (and we won't be seeing Hamels), the Royals, and a Twins team that can't win on the road (20-28). Then we have a key series vs. the Yankees...
I'd be more worried about the Red Sox stupidly trading for Hamels just because they want to contend with that flawed core in 2016.. considering Ben Cherington and the ownership's idiocy, I can see that happening.
More good news for the Jays.. Royals just walked off the Astros 2-1 in extras. So we're now 3 and 5 back on both wild cards. Don't assume Houston's going to run away with it yet.. they still have to fight the Angels (next series BTW), plus win consistently on the road (22-26 outside Minute Maid). And their August sked is tough.
Astros still need more.. Kazmir isn't enough. They need another bat at least if they're going to play in October, as Springer is uncertain to return.
