  1. Great trade for the Mets. Let's them free up 5m that will go to Bauer. I thought Shatkins would be looking to get a #2 not a #5 that the team has like plenty of.
  2. Rosario should cost less, is still only 29, has big pop, and can play the field if needed
  3. Musgrove? No one is going to lose sleep over not getting him. We need a #1 or #2 not another back end starter.
  4. They need to add younger FAs. This team can't compete with the padres/dodgers etc..But if they want to make a serious run in 1-2 years, they can't do it all in 1 offseason.
  5. Ya, not a fan of that contract. I think Brad Hand would be a better choice for us and probably cost less.
  6. Just seems high for what he brings to the table. Even Grossman only got 5/yr. I can't imagine Rosario is asking for a whole lot more, seems like a better choice. But I wouldn't mind adding Rosario's bat to our lineup, he's good for 25hrs.
  7. I meant for his 36m/yr asking price. I don't know, for Springer there are reports hinting to what the Mets and Blue Jays offered, but not much on anyone else.
  8. Haven't heard many recent Bauer rumors. Can't imagine too many teams willing to pay him 25+/yr. Any recent connections with us to him?
  9. Bauer + Sugano/Paxton , Jansen+ for Lindor and then Rosario for depth. Kirk is going to be a beast this year.
  10. If he signs for 150m, it will be very hard for a team to make value on that. The Mets are prepared to overspend, but Springer in his first year, is not bringing a WS to this team. So, how valuable will Springer be in years 2-5 or 2-6? He's projected for about 3.8fWAR this year. Is that worth it to pay him 30m given Covid? The mets have the rotation to do it, the Blue Jays don't. I just don't think he's the player you overpay for given his age right now. You won't be bothered but this team isn't the Yankees with a 215m payroll, so I am not sure what you would be so excited about.
  11. If you are ready to commit to that kind of money, then just commit to the roster spot. Really bad negotiating by Shatkins if so.
  12. I was hoping we'd get Kim just because he's still young and rumors were he was only getting 8-10m/yr while projecting for 3-4WAR. I preferred him vs trading away a bunch of prospects for an unsigned Lindor. Too bad we couldn't get it done.
  13. SWR isn't even a top 50 prospect. Patino is top 25. Patino has 1/2 potential.
  14. Very few players keep their same level of play through their mid 30s. Remember some people here wanted JB signed to some crazy contract when he was like 35. Thankfully we didn't, but you have to be very diligent. There will always be free agents to sign, there's no need to get locked down to a declining asset with an age risk.
  15. I wouldn't trade for Lindor either when there are too many quality FAs still left. If you truly believe in your prospects, it's better to overspend a couple of m on a FA then give up prospects you've spent money/time developing so far but I think Shatkins knows that.
  16. You do know that the Toronto Blue Jays provide tens of millions of dollars into industries outside of the actual baseball activities. Hotels/Restos/Bars etc.. Then factor in what the marketing value is worth in advertising every time Toronto is mentioned on TV/Radio on games etc..So, to discount the idea of public funding when the team does bring big value to the city/province would be pretty foolish.
  17. JT/Bauer/DJL , but Jays are in on basically every free agent right now. I know they can't have 4-6 offers out there though lol
  18. He still is a #4 though on a good team, and wouldn't crack a dodgers rotation. Jays have so many backend pitchers and even Kay who could try to slot in too. If they hadn't signed Ray, it would make sense, but Roark/Stripling/Kay/Ray. I think we need to spend the money on a real #1. You remove Ray, and you have 22m/yr that would have gone to Gaus/Ray that could be used for a real difference maker.
  19. I mean, he doesn't look 5'8 265lbs. Is that accurate on his weight? He looks 50lbs less than that.
  20. Guys can we just lay off Reese for a bit. I just don't think he's getting a fair shake..
  21. Should have just signed Rendon this year, and saved a prospect or two. Granted he'll be worth even less next year, older + closer to that opt out, I think COL might just hold onto him because I don't think any team will offer them what they are asking.
  22. Assuming payroll next year will increase to maybe 120-130, so they'll have half their payroll for 3 players, Ryu/Grichuk/Betts? Should work ...
  23. Love the potential here. Still under 30 and had big numbers in MIL. Really happy this club decided on a bounce back player vs EE.
  24. I rather use that spot on anyone under 28 to see if they can breakout and be here mid-long term. Jays most probably aren't even .500 next year, so now is the time to see who fits. Otherwise, you still need to fill that position again the following year.
  25. Hard to believe the Jays couldn't beat that deal with money, unless he wanted a warm climate and hot spanish girls.
