  1. Would we have been a better team with Lawrie at 2b and Headley at 3b + all those prospects..
  2. I wonder which prospects are getting traded for an overpaid older veteran. That's AA's style.
  3. Would have much rather had Tomas @ 11.3m/yr if Melky gets anywhere near 16.
  4. Would have been so much easier if Toronto signed Tomas, could play LF and could be a DH when EE is done. I just don't get this club. Markakis is still going to be asking for near Melky numbers, around 13-15m a year.
  5. Not sure why this team and AA are opposed to signing international players like him. He would have been fine in LF, and could have DHed too. He'll also make 3-4m less per year than Melky. 21 years and counting..
  6. The fact is, the Jays aren't going after any international player, Cuban or from Japan. They are missing out, and only part of the reason the Jays constantly keep missing the playoffs.
  7. Can you please forward that to AA then please, I know you have pull, you have 15k+ posts. AA needs to recognize.
  8. I think they will take the same AAV about 15m a year. Just Tomas will require a 6 year deal.
  9. Let's say Melky or Tomas for the same AAV but Tomas requires a 6-7 year deal, who would you rather then?
  10. You guys are dreaming in color if you think the Jays are going after Moncada or Tomas. I'd love both, but AA's philosophy is to get older more established guys. We'd all love a nice young core of huge upside guys, but it's not happening.
  11. Both Sandoval and Hanley were ranked higher as free agents than Martin as well on most published lists.
  12. Right, just like all your projections that happen. What if Martin isn't catching at 36 or 37 years old? He's not exactly the best bat to have as a DH or 1B. I mean, your guarantee isn't really worth anything. You can't question a team that has made the playoffs as much as the Red Sox have in the last 20 years. They know what they are doing. Hanley is still a solid bat, and can play play 3b if they don't sign Sandoval.
  13. Well, considering they aren't locked into him for when he's over 35 years old, they got a short term deal, it's a pretty decent deal. It's not like they just signed a catcher until he's 37 or anything, right?
  14. Solid lockup by the Mariners.
  15. Yes, especially if it's down to Padres/Giants. No reason why we should not be in on him especially if the bidding on Melks gets too high.
  16. That's a good plan, but I like Tomas more than Melky. He's got some solid skills and is 24 without a PED history. He will take more but the AAV might be around the same for a guy with a ton of upside. Also trading away Happ/Dickey/Navarro/Thole will require getting players with salary back, hopefully younger guys but still, it might be 5-10m back in salary also, so it would be more like 25m out 45m back. But it would be necessary in order for this club to compete next year and the following.
  17. The Yanks have been silent, never discount them on any free agents or international players. Jays can go from 3rd to 4th quite easily. Especially if JB/EE miss any significant time.
  18. I don't think the red sox are done just yet. Hanley is signed until he's 35, and apparently he was asking for 130-150m when he was with the dodgers. It's a solid signing for the red sox if it's really 5/90 that's for sure, he's still a solid hitter. No one thought Hanley would go that cheap at the start off the offseason, and no one thought Martin would get 5 years either.
  19. So Hanley will be done as a 33 year old but Martin will still be catching at 35/36 years old, cool.
  20. I know, the Blue Jays wanted many guys over the years, except they aren't the Red Sox who made the playoffs 10 out of the last 20 or so years. Players want to experience winning and that's why Sandoval is leaning towards the Red Sox offer. The Red Sox have direction, so if there's one team aside from the Yankees who could sign all 3, you know it's them.
  21. Well, I like Ramirez better than Sandoval for them, just because of his versatility and he's not weight challenged. But, mlbtraderumors is saying they want Ramirez and Sandoval. So, it does look like they want all 3 including lester. I think they are trying to get Sandoval to sign based on them getting Ramirez, kind of like the Wade/Lebron miami heat signings.
  22. Well they have an open offer to Lester, who arguably is better than any blue jays pitcher. Looks like the red sox and their rebuild won't take too long, especially with their prospects too. If they sign Panda, Lester, Ramirez, they will be the favorites in the AL east next year. It's ok though, the Blue Jays have a very solid catcher who can frame.
  23. A lot of things don't make sense on these boards. Or, like I suggested before, sign Tomas. He will cost the same per year but has a huge potential of upside.
  24. Why not sign Tomas who is younger, more upside, and won't cost any prospects? The braves are trying to dump Upton to sign him.
  25. It's good there won't be a limit to payroll. AA will need no limits if he wants to build a winner here.
