  1. They are only paying him a couple M more than Morales and he's got more upside. If he is even average, he'll still be tradable as he's only 26 now. He's projected for 2 war vs around 0.7 for Morales, making 2m more than Morales, so it's actually not bad at all.
  2. Morales got a multi year deal so why can't JB who most likely will be a better hitter next year.
  3. The Jays were ready to sign him for 1yr/17.2 so I don't know what's the hold up for adding another year unless he's holding out for 3 years . But I would work with an option with JB. Something like 2/35 + 17.5 option + 2.5m buyout.
  4. This team needs to look to get younger. Tulo/RM/estrada/happ/Jd/morales/pearce are all over 31. Making trades and getting more expensive and older players back is probably not the smartest move right now. Travis could be a long term affordable piece at 2b, who might even put up the same WAR as Cutch if he plays the whole year.
  5. Except if you are trying to win this year. There was money for Pearce + EE . Alvarez/Trumbo/Beltran/JB/Holliday/EE , there was an abundance of 1b/ DH guys, and had they waited, they wouldn't have needed to offer Morales 3/33, they probably could have had him at 2/20. Look at the teams signing these guys, none of them want middle aged DH guys signed too long. The gamble backfired.
  6. I don't think signing Pearce prevented signing EE. But signing Morales did.
  7. Do you blame him for wanting to test the market? This is most likely his last chance to see what's out there. Ya it didn't develop but that's because Dodgers/Yanks/Red Sox/Cubs are all basically not wanting a mid 30s player and made other moves. But it's not like we HAD to sign morales. I would have rather waited on EE's decision. Morales strictly a dh didn't have 10 teams knocking down wanting to pay him 10m+ a year.
  8. His agent basically said that he was waiting, so the Blue Jays could have kept their offer. He made it seem like the blue jays withdrew their offer and moved on before waiting for EE to make his decision. So, ya, the Blue Jays end up with an 11m 0.9 war player vs 20m 3.5 war player. Their little game of trying to pressure EE into making his decision right away backfired.
  9. At 36, it's not like he won't be able to get 12-15m, + the 5m buyout, so it will be basically the same.
  10. He'll end up with the same 4/80 year deal. It's the Blue Jays who look stupid, they have Morales now instead of EE.
  11. Would you rather spend money risking it on JB or let's say a potential long term rotation piece like Tyson Ross? I know this club doesn't have unlimited 'risk' money, but I would like to see them be all in on him.
  12. Yep, that sounds about right. It will be a pretty interesting Red Sox vs Cubs/Dodgers world series next year.
  13. That would be a pretty bad trade if any of those players were involved for 1 year of a 35 year old. Not to mention, Pillar is way more valuable than Grandy and makes way less.
  14. Jays aren't taking on 28m in salary for those 2. Anyways, I'm more of the thinking that it's worth it to lose the draft pick and just sign JB if they are considering something stupid like that.
  15. Why Bruce? Why wouldn't they just sign JB. That doesn't make sense.
  16. Would love to get some prospects from them, forget puig. De Leon/Bellinger. This club needs to stock up on the farm.
  17. Yep, that's a good point, although they would still need roster players. That's probably why the Jays won't make it far next year, they wanted to just move on before waiting it out and they ended up with Plan B.
  18. He's played a handful of games over the last couple of years at 1B. There's no telling how he would do there fulltime, he might end up sucking there. I think he wants to play OF either way. He should be strictly a DH right now.
  19. I don't think anyone thinks he can, and most likely he will decline defensively even further. It all comes down to the blue jays having jumped the gun on the morales signing. JB at 17m is way more valuable than Morales at 11m. It was just a stupid signing and is really preventing this club from improving.
  20. Ya those stupid rules the Yanks have, it's really stopped them from getting good players and winning ..
  21. It's also the Yankees, they don't have a normal budget, they can afford to get the best players at each position. He's also only 28 and didn't cost a draft pick.
  22. I see 1.1 WAR on baseball-reference also, fangraphs though has him 2.7
  23. Great signing by the yanks. He's 28, so in 1-2 years when they are ready to win the division again or at least fight for it with Boston, he will still be just 30.
  24. White Sox look to be on their way to a nice team down the road, they are doing things properly. They still have some assets to trade, and they will most likely start getting top 5 picks to combine with their high end prospects.
  25. And remember when JB supposedly wanted 5/150? There's no way he would have taken 3/50 at the beginning of the year, yet I am sure if he came down to 4/90-100 the Jays might have actually signed him.
