  1. With the exception of King, who seems to grasp the term "age appropriate", you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
  2. Backtracking? You do understand that "safe bet" was intended as turn of phrase that you mistook as a proposition? What you're referring to as "backtracking" is what most people would describe as coming to terms. I also would have insisted upon odds for obvious reasons, but apparently your unsolicited response of "I'll take that bet" came with no intention of wagering money, just bragging rights. What would your new avatar have to be 3x more silly than mine?
  3. Oh sure, I bet they all look the same to you Is Boxcar, Geoge Takei?
  4. I'd insist on excluding position players from MIA, HOU, NYM, CHC, MIN, MIL as they aren't competitive and thus many players will be "starters" by default. Players on remaining teams must receive at least 500 PAs to be considered starters. In the event Goins doesn't reach 500 PAs the bet would be void. If you're truly interested PM me and we can work out the details.
  5. Goins is a pretty safe bet to be the worst starting position player in the MLB, most definitely "wrongly".
  6. Maybe we were crazy to believe the team unwilling to extend Josh Johnson a QO would ever spend $13-15M/year on Jimenez.
  7. More generally, why is Maholm signing for $1.5M guaranteed while Arroyo gets $23.5M?
  8. Yunel Escobar is a victim of hate, I always knew it.
  9. The Scott Boras method of representation: 1. Completely fail to comprehend the consequences of the new draft pick compensation. 2. Completely fail to adjust approach after one off season. 3. Whine about new draft pick compensation. 4. Make ludicrous, desperate attempt to get client an opt out clause. 5. Probably whine some more? 6. Ask Boston nicely for a 1/14 deal? Nothing against Scott Boras, but he obviously wasn't prepared to adapt and this is not a very dignified response.
  10. Giving contracts to professional athletes with chronic diseases, no matter how talented, is like hiring a narcoleptic to work in a dimly lit office. Realistically these guys knew their conditions would result in adversity but signed the contracts anyway, they have an obligation to do their job. I wouldn't blame the organization for running them into the ground at this point.
  11. When Goins and Hech post two of the five worst OPSs in 2014, at least GordieDougie and Olerud can say they successfully debated which turd is the smelliest.
  12. Don't forget Spruill. Like the signing, now that Skaggs and Holmberg are gone it provides some insurance innings for Bradley and Hudson, but that contract is f***ing awful.
  13. From Fangraphs: Matt Klaassen started the Carter-Batista Awards (CBA) in 2009 to recognize those players whose offensive value is exaggerated by their RBI totals. Joe Carter‘s name is listed first because not only does he own the highest CBA score since 1990, he owns three of the top seven. Season/Player RBI wRC CBA 1990 Joe Carter 115 65 1.77 2004 Tony Batista 110 66 1.67 1999 Richie Sexson 116 70 1.66 1997 Joe Carter 102 62 1.65 1993 Ruben Sierra 101 63 1.60 1992 George Bell 112 72 1.56 1994 Joe Carter 103 68 1.51 1996 Derek Bell 113 75 1.51
  14. David Robertson is a top-five reliever bro
  15. Why trade Franklin for a relief pitcher when Rodney is available at a slightly higher price? Even without a position, Franklin is more valuable than that.
  16. Two years ago actually, Urena and now Rodriguez being the notable signings since. Obviously you're correct in suggesting that Paddy deserves to share the credit. However, as it's standard practice for the board to hold AA solely responsible for all blunders, I reserve to right to make absolute statements like this about every success. Otherwise I'm going to start picking executives to blame for the MIA and NYM trades lol
  17. This is fairly ambiguous, but if it means he doesn't expect any FA acquisitions that's totally unacceptable.
  18. Anthopoulos undoubtedly has his shortcomings but stockpiling young, high-upside international talent is certainly not one of them. Five years from now, the handful of these kids that progress are going to be a lot of fun to watch. Edit: On the other hand, until that day comes, watching King fap himself to death over them is going to be excruciating lol
  19. If Kratz was hurt in game and Navarro had to move from DH to play the field, doesn't that forfeit the DH spot?
  20. Go take a long walk off a short "peer" please.
  21. Is Lawrie the 3rd catcher? I like the idea but wouldn't want to carry both Kratz and Thole.
  22. It's totally petty, but the forum should adopt the QUAL+ metric to assign the "prospect, blue chip prospect, big leaguer ect" labels rather than just post count. It never concerned me before, but the last four pages of this thread make it seem like an egregious error.
  23. f***, guess I was wrong, my apologies JFaS.
  24. You should post this comment here, we'll observe the responses as a social experiment. I have a feeling you might even like it there and decide to stay.
