I really doubt that it's his appreciation of statistics that drives his performance; rather, his performance is enhanced by his intelligence, which in turn results in an appreciation of statistics.
Saying "every other player should take note" is basically saying every other player should be smarter. Certain executives should be taking note though.
Lyle Overbay's ages 25-33 seasons are pretty much the worst possible outcome for Freeman. They're a similar type of player, but the comparison ends there.
Urgh and Izturis starting at second, disgusting. Maybe if we ask CLE nicely they'll just return Gomes and Aviles?
Obviously bullpen arms are invaluable and bench players irrelevant.
Thanks for this, you single handedly dissuaded me from reading the article and apparently wasting my time.
Is the term "talking out of both sides of your ass" a thing already? It seems appropriate.
The odds of Goins ever posting a 2.8 WAR season are roughly equal to that of CHP winning best poster award.
Although the odds of Boni doing it again aren't much better lol
Honestly, any trade for Samardzija involving Stroman or Sanchez would be a fail at this point, with Jimenez being readily available.
This is precisely why a franchise with considerable financial resources should not be operating with self-imposed budgetary restrictions. It's totally unnecessary for the Jays to value the surplus value of Shark's two remaining controllable years over their top-tier pitching prospects.
Agreed, although they were only "assets" in terms of controllability, the talent level was pretty minimal. The futility of his presence on this team speaks more to the amount of SPing depth they've assembled than anything else IMO.
Capuano is undoubtedly a superior pitcher by nearly every measure; however, he and Happ have nearly identical career ERAs and Happ is actually superior in suppressing the HR, which is probably the full extent of this team's evaluation.
He's definitely an upgrade but unfortunately Happ's presence and salary mitigates much of what he has to offer, rendering his addition redundant. It's similar to the Arroyo situation in a lot of ways.
Realistically the team also includes EE, Bautista, Rasmus, Lind, Escobar, Morrow, Cecil, Delabar (or the talent they net via trade), Drabek, Hutchison, Nolin, ect. It's better than what he posted.
The standardized sticky scale says Stephen is sorta sticky but stuck without a contract, Goins is super sticky and has been Seitzered so starts at second.
Instead of trying to make an identical argument in two separate threads and expecting different responses, perhaps you should make your point at the old forum. I'm sure they'd embrace your belief wholeheartedly "we didn't make the playoffs with Burnett in 2006-2008, it won't be any different this time around, grumble grumble".
Anyone care to explain the significance of the "cap filler" and "rinse and repeat" memes? Also there should be a sticky thread with all this information lol
Read this yesterday, was going to post it in response but you beat me to it. With only ten (nine) comparable instances, none of which are actually particularly pertinent to Stephen Drew, I was left unconvinced that he would suffer from a positional change to second. It should be totally irrelevant however, as there's little doubt it should be Reyes making the transition.
