  1. You might be right. I've been operating under the assumption that Rizzo really over values the versatile 25th man, Lombardozzi/Bonifacio. If that were true though, he probably would have included Espinosa in the DET trade instead. Rizzo is no fool, the Nats 2014 roster is seriously impressive, I've got a semi chub just thinking about it.
  2. I'm under the impression that their frustration with him has mounted and claiming to still value him highly is simply posturing. Bonifacio + a less prospect probably would have gotten it done IMO
  3. That's a good point, there's actually no potential production from the entire middle IF when Reyes inevitably gets hurt. Danny Epsinosa is not only a logical target but almost a must have, sadly he probably could have been had for a bullpen piece prior to the Blevins acquisition. Hell, he probably could have been had for OF depth before McLouth. Time to bite the bullet and pay the current asking price.
  4. That was my thought process
  5. +1 Even start the year with a rotation of Dickey, MB, Morrow, Happ and Hutchison. When someone gets injured/falters then Stroman, Drabek, Jenkins get a shot. There's plenty of options to eat innings, just don't let guys struggle for prolonged period at the major league level.
  6. On the topic of shocking stats, a commenter on a recent fangraphs chat claimed that Barry Bonds has a career .335ish OBP vs pitchers he never recorded a hit against.
  7. Arizona's recent trades make more sense now. Obviously the goal is to win 90 games, call it an step forward and save his job. Ownership only has themselves to blame for telling Towers he's in the "hot seat".
  8. Why would the Cubs be coveting major league OFs? Common sense says they should be looking to acquire elite minor league pitching given their current timeline.
  9. lol except it would be a Choo, Ellsbury, Gardner, Beltran, Soriano, Ichiro, Wells OF/DH?
  10. People actually read Baseball Prospectus? I couldn't get any further than #6
  11. Yes please. Presumably he'd have interest from at least a few teams
  12. There should be a central "AA Cluster f*** Thread", too many decent topics such as this devolve to this state almost immediately. Realistically, the question "Can Ryan Goins Stick?" should quickly and conclusively be answered "no way" lol. Instead, how many of the 108 pages are probably about the inactive Jays' offseason or more generally AA's proficiency?
  13. No one could possibly expect Roberts to play a full season; however, even if you think he's got a good shot at playing roughly 60 games, it's hard to argue with more or less paying two million for 1 win at a position of dire need. Some GMs obviously don't understand the concept of plugging holes in the roster, be it for a partial season, platoon situation or whatever.
  14. Thanks bro, but that wasn't me lol
  15. I'm not sold on Davidson's bat either, but I don't entirely agree with this. Consider their minor league numbers, keeping in mind that Davidson was younger at each respective level: -Davidson both walked and struck out more than Trumbo. -Trumbo posted a higher slugging percentage. -They posted comparable wOBA. Davidson could potentially be a middle of the order hitter. He's also a much better defender, at a more valuable position so he could certainly end up a more valuable player than Trumbo.
  16. 4.22 in 78.1 innings, at Citi Field in the NL compared to 4.23 in 224.2 innings at RC in the AL. Dickey's HR/9 jumped from 0.92 to 1.4 between 2012 at Citi and 2013 at RC. Edit: Not trying to imply that Marcum wouldn't be worthwhile on a minor league deal, I just couldn't abide the blatant cherry-picking lol
  17. Cecil for Owings straight up would be an excellent Christmas gift...
  18. Having Trumbo and Davidson in the same lineup would certainly be hard to watch lol. That being said, Skaggs, Davidson, Eaton > Trumbo, Reed IMO, poor asset management.
  19. Even though Lind is almost a perfect fit for PIT, I can't see him netting a top ten prospect. Jason Kubel just signed a minor league contract with the Twins and his career stats are shockingly similar to Lind's. It's hardly a perfect comparison as the two are trending in totally opposite directions and Kubel can't play 1B; although he may very well be less of a liability there than in the OF lol. I'm not saying the two have identical value, especially to the Pirates. It is just hard to imagine one getting traded for a top ten prospect from an excellent farm system, while the other can't get a major league contract as a FA.
