  1. All MLB game calling teams ranked https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2017/jul/11/best-mlb-broadcast-teams-baseball
  2. I am sure many of you read the article suggesting that the Phillies try and sign both Harper and Machado. What was interesting to me was that the reasoning they gave for the Phillies signing both guys would, in theory, be similar to reasons why the Jays should sign both guys. I am not suggesting we do at all, but the premise is largely similar: 1) No long term commitments beyond 2020 2) Phillies a horrible slugging team and need a lot of help on offense 3) Young core to build with as both guys are 26 and youth coming fast. 4) Have the money 5) positions of need. When I read the article I was thinking - that is Toronto - a team with a lot of young talent coming but perhaps not in the outfield or Shortstop/3B. Of course I know we are not the sort of team to dole out two $300million 10 year contracts and certainly not to a lack of character guy like Machado - but then again Ty Cobb was an arse and I'd be happy to have him if he wins. I just liked the idea of 2020: Bichette (SS/2B) Vlad Jr (3B/1B) Machado (SS/3B) Harper (CF/RF) Biggio/Tellez (1B/DH) Grichuck (CF/RF) Jansen/Mcguire © McKinney/Hernandez (LF/RF/DH) Diaz/Gurriel (SS/2B) Drury/Alford/Espinal/Smith Rotation: Borucki SRF Pearson Merryweather Panone Pardinho Perez FA Ace FA number 2 WS - lock and load. Gotta spend to win baby - Boston #1 in payroll - LA and NY right there - Don't give me crap about Tampa or Cleveland - some fluke years these teams get in and fluke a WS title big deal - never a dynasty of winning. Jays need a $190million payroll or forgettaboutit.
  3. I'm feeling good about the Osuna trade.
  4. Who would you like to see as the manager in 2019? Does anyone have a list of candidates you would like to see and who you absolutely don't want to see as the next manager for your Toronto Blue Jays.
  5. The positive I suppose is that Shatkins should know the Cleveland system a little better. So they may get the lesser name with better future results. I remember when the Dodgers GM was talking about the Tampa Rays GM that Tampa always asked for the "right names" in trades not necessarily the "touted" names high on the lists. The Dodgers hired him. A known commodity could be better than the second round pick I suppose. Shatkins does seem to like middle infielders so Freeman seems like a guy to target. Perhaps they will get one of those "thanks for all your hard work in Cleveland" type returns - one can hope anyway. I think they should probably target the highest upside arms as possible. IF SRF is the future - I am not too convinced.
  6. Imagine his fwar tripling on a good team!
  7. Osuuna has 3 years left due to Suspension. He loses a year on free agency. Osuna also a mental case. Remember he was having anxiety issues in top of the wife beating issues. Still, hope we get a decent return
  8. Would the Jays be comfortable selling low on Stroman? It is AA and he might overpay for HIS guy but unlike Happ the Jays are in the driver's seat. AA said he won't trade the best prospects for just a rental. Stroman is not a rental. Atlanta seems to have a deep system. But AA has managed to trade big name prospects who turned out to be junk. Syndergard and Yan Gomes the exceptions. Shatkins have to be sure the 2-4 players received are in the Yan Gomes, Thor camp and not the Graveman, Norris camp.
  9. If these guys suck according to the board and have zero upside, why nit keep Happ and offer him arb and get a second round pick? A good second rounder should have upside.
  10. Pearce is a good pick-up for Boston - mashes lefties - can be a good bench bat and back-up multiple positions in case of injury. Jays losing him at end of year anyway. And it illustrates that trading within division is going to happen if the player coming back is desirable. So now the clock ticks on Happ Estrada Oh Loup Tepera Pillar Smoak Donaldson Maile Stroman Sanchez Travis Step right up for the season summer sale where we can offer you a two for one discount - all must go. Look through our rubbish bin and maybe find something not tooo old and damaged.
  11. I think no one wants to make pedophiles multi-millionaires. The US already elected one. And there should be some sort of rehabilitation program because no one who is a pedophile would ever be able to go to a hospital and admit it and ask for help. Some European countries are making it safe to admit and seek treatment but the US isn't there on most any medical/psychological issue - you can see movies with mass slaughters but see a Janet Jackson Boob and the whole country has a s***. But there is a difference between having a deviant sexual attraction and acting upon those feelings. He likes kids, some people like feet, boobs, and Trump likes being peed on. Great - whatever - but this person acted on it. And that's what separates people who fantasize about weird crap and psychopaths who use other people to gratify themselves over the feelings of others. And you know right from wrong at 10 years old - so all the BS about him being a kid is crap.
  12. 45,000 posts to my 330 in 5 years - I guess you'd know. LOL. I am too busy getting spanked in real life by hot Asian chicks while you are busy in front of the computer spanking to Blue Jay forum posts. 45 THOUSAND posts. FFS man. Move out of your parents basement already and get some Asperger's therapy and get a woman to take pity on that tiny thang.
  13. Ahh that's a great point - teams will be under more pressure closer to the deadline and may part with a higher level prospect.
  14. I often wonder why teams wait until the deadline. Take JA Happ - the guy has been very good since he's been here and the Toronto Blue Jays brass have to realize by now that this team isn't going to win. So unless they're dumb they should be making phone calls. A team that is currently contending probably will continue to contend and if you are going to trade assets - why would you not want the 10-11 starts Happ is going to make in June and Juy for the Jays? Sure I understand waiting on JD because the guy has been injury prone the last two years and he hasn't hit this year so you sort of have to wait and hope he has 4 weeks of video game numbers to attract interest. I just don't get why the management doesn't get that a rebuild is in order. The fans attending the games will drop off a cliff soon anyway so why let Baltimore have the top AL pick? Put Morales in CF and have him bat leadoff. Have Martin play short the rest of the year and bat third. Grichuk 4th. Last place - see Houston. Admit it - the perverse side of you wants to see Morales play CF.
  15. With the sinking ship - what if anything can we trade by the deadline and what if anything decent can we get back? Happ? But if we wait - you just know his arm will explode July 20th and be completely worthless - sooner the better Shatkins. What are they waiting for? It's the end of May and three regulars are hitting under .200. 1 good starting pitcher. Umm - time to tank it for the higher draft pick boys - if you're not going to make the playoffs - you should want to finish dead last.
  16. If Alabama had a baseball team they would sign the pedophile. 49% of them nearly elected Ron Moore (a pedophile) to office. So the kid just has to wait for a franchise. I really hope no one signs him. Just don't want to see a pedophile get millions of dollars - and once a pedophile always a pedophile - with millions in the bank he'll be able to satisfy his monster inside. (as Dexter would say). He'll be able to pay off the right people like Donald Trump who attended under age sex parties. Heck with Money you can still become president.
  17. Could be this: "A popular myth held that the show was financed by selling baseball superstar Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees, resulting in the "Curse of the Bambino."[1] However, it was My Lady Friends, rather than No, No, Nanette, that was directly financed by the Ruth sale." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No,_No,_Nanette
  18. The Jays are an old team and they're simply playing in a division with 2 teams that totally and entirely outclass them. They have a slim hope of competing with teams for a wild card though they would be the bottom rung of those teams. The problem with being a middling team is you always get middle round draft picks like pick 18-25 or something. Still Atkins and Shapiro are pretty smart - they were dealt a team that AA gutted to win now. AA taking Tulo was basically as horrible as signing Vernon Wells. We're stuck with a $20million dollar dead weight who will never play well again at shortstop and hasn't hit since 2014. I wish there was some kind of insurance policy where we could just give him his outright release. But there isn't so it screws the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons. Our line-up was one of the worst in all of baseball last year and it didn't really get much better. The Yankees were the second best offense and they added Stanton - Something winners do. Atkins and Shapiro get that but the team has 160 million or so in on this team they can't add tons. So they are basically holding the fort down - everyone they sign is 1 year with a 1 year option or they trade for cheap control (Grichuck). Estrada/Happ/Garcia/Pearce/JD/Granderson = ~$70million off the books with young talent like Guerrero/Bichette coming next year and you trade any or all of those 6 players at the all star break for some infusion of talent. You kind of hope all 6 play really well. The thing is the management also have to make money - it's a business and so they can't go full rebuild like the Astros though that would help. Personally if you know the team isn't going to compete for a WC then I'd really like the highest draft picks. The management is being realistic which is why you see all short term hold-me-over cheap contracts. Not trading any of the good prospects and getting respectable but cheap options (Diaz, Solarte, Granderson, Grichuk) - You don't win with any of this. You win with Altuve, Verlander, Springer, Correa, Stanton, Judge, Chapman, Sanchez. You win when you look around the field and see say five players who are in contention for all star contention and rotations where 1-2 are in the running for Cy Young. With the Jays - you have JD and no one else. On the mound you can't point to a single pitcher and say "that's a true ace." The team is basically filled with mediocre players - one legit star who is leaving either at the all-star break or off season but he's going. This is not panic because of 2 games it's just that the Yankees are a much better team. I'm surprised we've only been outscored 10-3 so far.
  19. Alford isn't playing because he like others are made of glass.
  20. I used to live next door to Ray Searage and at the time he was pitching for the Vancouver Canadians and hoping to get enough innings in in the Majors to get the MLB pension (now he is pitching coach guru that turned Happ and others around). Not sure if Lawrie played enough but it is a pretty good pension that is probably higher than the salaries of most posters on this board - so there is that to consider. What Lawrie needed was some kind of ADHD control therapist.
  21. If the guys you sign to minor league deals were any good they would have been signed to major league deals. So you sign reclamation projects and hope for the best. Since the Jays will be no higher than 3rd place and will not make the playoffs - who really cares about minor league signings. If you don't make the playoffs you may as well finish dead last and get the first overall draft pick.
  22. I don't think it will matter how good his first half is. I doubt anyone will bite. I was amazed that AA managed to move Vernon Wells but I believe he hit around 30 homers and looked to be getting better and the Angels bought it. His contract is 2018 $20m 2019 $20m 2020 $14m 2021 $15m OR ($4m buyout.) So we still owe him $58m guaranteed. He's only 32 so I mean there is still a chance to bounce back from injuries. He has had 6 seasons where he put up better than 5 WAR seasons and 2016 he put up 3.3 WAR which is respectable for $20million. But he seems to have a long swing these days. Perhaps injury the issue there. This is a really good team if Tulo goes back to 5+ WAR Tulo and Travis plays all year and Sanchez rebounds fully and the health is back to normal. Problem is - a lot of IFs.
  23. I believe I read that JD's girlfriend is from Toronto and that he does like Canada - I think his comments may actually be genuine. Not everyone is about the top dollar - tons of free agents have taken less money somewhere even though the Yankees offered top coin. So the player chose less money and less years to be on teams with less chance to win. Toronto has a decent shot perhaps 5 years and $140 million (which starts this season over riding his 1 year $23million. So it gives him $7million more this season (with inflation $7million more money today is better than $7 million in 2022). 2018 $30m 2019 $30m 2020 $30m 2021 $30m 2022 $20m (2023 and 2024 vest together) 2023 $20m vesting option 2024 $20m vesting option Add a bunch of incentives and who knows. I mean he will probably be very good at 3b for at least the next three years. Then move him to first and then dh.
  24. Here is an interesting quote from Atkins "Ross Atkins told Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi at a Pitch Talks event in Toronto on Thursday. “We do have that number. We have come up with a clear walkaway that we would be willing to commit to him to extend for him to remain a Blue Jay probably for the rest of his career.” http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/atkins-blue-jays-valued-donaldson-ahead-extension-talks/ The rest of his career comment implies that the Jays would be willing to go long on JD taking him to around the age of 38-39. A 6-8 year offer and presumably in the $27million+ per year ballpark. I don't know if it's the smart thing but I do know that JD's don't grow on trees. Is Atkins blowing smoke - they have very little in salary commitments after 2019.
  25. Abyine know if there is a historical site that compared the team WAR expected win totals with the actual results. So if a team based on added up WAR was supposed to win 100 games hiw they actually did.
