    Agree. Having said that the org made a calculated gamble in 2015 and the Roger's market for the Jays is at a fever pitch we haven't seen in over 20 yrs. Its kind of a shame the low dollar affects their payroll flexibility so much. I'm still pleasantly shocked to go to my kids baseball and see 6,7 and 8 yr olds (and their parents) in Calgary as into baseball and the Jays as they are right now. Obviously the challenge is going to be sustaining and building on it 2017 out. I think Shapiro is the right guy to make a sustainable org happen. Their approach this off season thus far works for me.

    Sure, but there is a difference between kicking tires and taking a legit shot at signing. Even the posters here haven't been far off what the signings costs are showing.

    I honestly don't think they ever seriously intended to or did make a play for the front line arms. I think their plan all along was to lean on the offense and bolster the rotation without breaking the bank and giving up picks. They may find a way to add to the front end later as the season unfolds if we are still in it.

    Its not a "great deal". Its a lot for a #2, but its a free market and its off the rails. Price has to get 28 to 30 per and I think if you are going to pay that kind of money Price is better value/win. I'm not complaining about the Happ signing. I think its fine. But did any of us ever imagine when he left for Saunders he would come back to us for 3/36? Really brings home just how valuable young, effective and cheap arms under control are to an org.

    Sounds like you and I have been in a lot worse than that little tizzy. Puig is a monster. If he really wanted to do some damage pity help the fool.

    He has rarely ever been and we don't know the effect of the surgery he had. With his luck he will get hit by lightening or mauled by a bear in BC this off season.

    Voted good. Hoping for 2 WAR from him. It's a meh depth signing we may regret over the 3 years but given what it looks like the market for SPs is, it's not an overpay (which still shocks me when I see Happ getting 3/36). A couple yrs ago we were passing hats in the clubhouse for a SP on a 1 year deal.

    The market for SP who had a small sample size of front end of the rotation type success. Jesus. Price may get $225mm from the BoSox. The irony of this signing with him coming back at the cost is almost too much.

    Thanks. Really doubt this. Been watching these guys play for yrs now and I think you would see more evidence. Was next to Shi Davidi in a long concession line up in Houston at a game back in May and I just started talking to him. He told me then he saw first hand Jose working with trainers on his shoulder and he couldn't lift his arm up above his shoulder, as hard as they tried to improve the motion range. Who really knows though.

    Me too but lots will depend on where we stand as the season unfolds. Who knows?...I'd love to at least one see team friendly 2+ option(s) extension but I seriously don't think that's going to happen. Makes little sense for the players financially. If we are in at all around the deadline 2016, they won't be going anywhere and picks will be the worst outcome.

    I'm for letting them both walk and getting picks but Edwin battled numerous injuries(back, legs and finger) almost all year. Had to affect him. His contact regression 2015 was more as a result of that than any other factor imo.

    I understand the rationale for this move of SP addition by plus pen arm subtraction. I think good move (not great) is a safe assessment. Doesn't help that I seemed to be eternally pissed at Gibby's use of Hendriks (Gm 2 against Tex in extra innings when he went to Hawkins over the Aussie, who got 2 outs and then gave up 3 straight line drives comes to mind, and sticks in my craw). I think its hard to judge this move in isolation. We have to trust there is a larger plan that's going to unfold where you can look at this holistically and make more sense of it. There have been some good points made on both sides of this deal ITT.

    Argh. Say it ain't so. The never ending shoulder issues situation. Like this kid a lot but he is having the luck of Saunders to start his MLB career. Hope he can bounce back.

    lol. clearly. Meaning he can yank a ball inside still and can also get to pitches away driving them to CF and LCF off the monster.

    Bagwell sure as hell looked like a poster boy for being on roids but wasn't tested positively. The ambiguity is brutal. It will be interesting how its handled when/if it becomes apparent there are already now people in HOF who were on PEDs.

    And they thought he was done in 2011 @ 35 when he had a glacier like start to the season. He is still dangerous on both sides of the plate.

    It a bit shocking, with the knowledge of today on valuing players, to look back on Olerud's numbers and see just how good he was overall. I'm sure there are still some managers who would bench him to "get Carter's rbi bat in the line up" but thankfully they are fewer.

    Lol. Revere isn't an ideal leadoff hitter but it's ironic as he defended Reyes as our leadoff hitter and this season at least Revere had a better OBP. I agree with him in this argument with Pillar.
