  1. I think Sanchez is an effective arm out of the BP if used in an appropriate leverage role against RHH. If he miraculously improves his command/ K ration...then great, but I don't see that happening.
  2. That would be good but despite their limitations, we don't have the depth to have these 2 young inexpensive arms in the ML in 2016 IMO.
  3. Was wondering same. AJP just signed for 1/3mm.
  4. During the season I never would have thought so but now I agree. The reality of our dearth in SP has sunk in along with the cost of FAs. When Chen seeks a 5 year deal, its clear that expectations are high for a sellers market.
  5. Good analogy. It's an option that has to be sparingly used or it has the same budgetary net negative effect as trading the farm system for more expensive older talent.
  6. I can't find the logic in that. So many arms have had TJ and have been productive healthy SP ers. Osuna can do the same.
  7. Fair comment on apples to oranges. I think its pretty safe to say with Lind you know what you are getting against RHP (including higher cost) and with Belo its pretty much a flyer, even with better splits last year.
  8. Adam Lind was a much more defined asset over many seasons than Belo. He rakes RHP and can't hit LHP. Belo is an interesting one hit wonder (so far) with a very high BABIP 2015. I think Lind had more value when he brought Estrada.
  9. I'm not saying anything other than it is an allegation. The facts will come out in due course. Admit it doesn't look good but rushing to judgement over a news story is something Im going to try to avoid.
  10. Allegations...I'm hoping they are not true. After the Kane story hoping people react a little less quickly to judging. Would be a very sad chapter in his life if they are. That behaviour is completely unacceptable.
  11. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
  12. It's hard to believe he was signed as a potential MIF. Definitely not LF. I remember when we tried Delgado there. Should be about the same.
  13. Work ethic is a skill. The issue was whether a degree(s) equated to someone being very smart. It can. But not necessarily. Don't know about anyone else but some of the smartest guys I knew at Univ didn't make it through their degrees because they were baked every day and/or partied too much. Didn't have the work ethic or had other issues.
  14. Clearly. Anyone who went to university probably knows 50-100 people who graduated who weren't very bright. They get by by working super hard and/or by taking bird courses.
  15. We don't need Price and I don't want to sign him. In fact it would be a terrible decision. But these arguments have false premises. If we had Cecil we probably hang on to win WS Gm 2 and we should have won Price's Gm 6 start.
  16. All this speculation about big name big money FAs for us is amusing wet dream stuff. I'd be very surprised if we sign any FA deal, even as large as Martins.
  17. Jose wants to win and he wants the arms to do that more than he dislikes ODay for some on the field stuff from the past.
  18. No disrespect to the lack of cynicism in your post but we have all seen things like this go down many times whether it's replacing a ceo or shuffling of cabinet positions. Orchestrated to the public with glowing statements and press releases. There is no percentage in airing the real deal. We will know soon enough what AA's future is but I doubt he is taking time off to swing the kids.
  19. Im not arguing with you but Thole caught over 100 gms 2 years in a row with the NYM. Im not sure its fair to say he cant handle the staff in a back up role to Martin.
  20. Im not sure. This is out of my pay grade on the stats side to evaluate. Its been discussed but framing isn't calculated in WAR is it? I wonder if they just go with him all yr as back up to Martin? We don't really need the offense from C.
  21. Ya, a few posters have mentioned valuing RA higher the way the KB plays re FIP and his +D. But if we have to continue to give Thole a 25 spot that's a negative offset im sure some of the stats experts on here could assess.
  22. I tend to agree and I think a QO is whats going to happen.
  23. I was thinking after I wrote my post this am. Thinking back there was a lot of criticism of our If depth the yr before and Izzy was in part an answer to that. We didn't have a great track record at signing FA then which probably led to the deal being a yr longer than it should have been. You are right its not a huge deal and the guy had some freak injuries.
  24. going to be tough call on offering QO to Estrada. Its tempting with our dearth in SP. Nobody knows the market yet for tier 2 SP options so it could be an expensive one year risk. navvy wont be back so that may play into it if you believe in the co-authored success of that tandem. I don't think he takes a QO and we get a pick OR the risk is...he takes the QO...cant find it next year, which means we spend $28mm on RA and him 2016.
  25. Unlikely but not impossible. But even if they are great in MLB you have to evaluate things at the time of the trade. candymartinez recently posted a fangraphs analysis of the RA deal at the time it was made and the thesis was that it was comparable to market, but few here will ever see it that way now. Regardless a lot of guys hated the RA deal from the get go. We gave up young arms for JD too, but because of his season there aren't many complaints about that deal. Anytime you deal for a known commodity like Tulo and throw in Hawkins (if you believe the narrative about his leadership qualities for the pen) you have to pay in potential future upside plus an inferior known quantity in Reyes. Without Price and Tulo I don't think we see the playoffs this year I am thankful we aren't going into 2016 or 2017 with Reyes at SS. We could win the WS in 2016 if we can address the pitching. Admittedly 2017 is much sketchier but that's why Shapiro is there.
