  1. The fact that that ball took a nasty hop and still didn't get past Vladdy gives me hope. Usually that kind of play results in an error of some sort when the Jays pen is about to have an implosion.
  2. f*** it, I'm going to choose to have faith in Chatwood here.
  3. McGuire with 3 doubles and his only out came on a ******** strike three call. Shame he got screwed out of the chance to battle back in that third at-bat.
  4. Meals has been s*** but it looks like he's been consistently s***. Jays pitchers just haven't exploited that tumor in his zone as much as the O's have: Jays guys should start throwing more in that middle area off the plate.
  5. Just discovered something. The last time Jerry Meals umpired a Blue Jays series was the 4-game Red Sox set earlier this month. Here's the kicker: The Blue Jays lost two games that series and both might have been handed to Boston by the umpires. The first game was umpired by Jerry Meals himself. According to Ump Scorecards, Meals favored the Red Sox for 0.50 runs in that game, which the Red Sox went on to win 6-5. The Red Sox got favored in Game 2 (+0.34 runs) and Game 3 (+0.27 runs) as well but it didn't matter because the Jays scored so many runs.
  6. 3rd inning in New Hampshire. Austin Martin singles. Gabriel Moreno 0-2 home run to right field. Samad Taylor had gotten on earlier by HBP but was picked off. Moreno is now 2-for-2 with a double and a bomb.
  7. The Blue Jays making Bad Matt Harvey look like Prime Matt Harvey might actually be the most predictable thing of 2021.
  8. Moreno doubles in his first at-bat of the day. Edit: Groshans singles him over to third. Edit 2: Chavez Young singles after that. Moreno scores, Groshans to 2nd.
  9. Gurriel - Martin - Springer Moreno - Bichette - Biggio - Guerrero Kirk Hernandez 9 deep. One can dream.
  10. Man, big news day. Atkins optimistic they'll be back in Toronto at some point. Lots to work through first.
  11. News notes from today: - Teoscar's back! - Front office's current priority is getting bullpen help. Looking for a starter too but none are available. - Montoyo isn't going anywhere. Team is encouraged by how he's "handled everything." - Borucki is throwing off a mound and progressing to side sessions soon. - Merryweather is about to start throwing off a mound. - Dolis has some minor numbness in his hand but they aren't concerned. Threw a bullpen yesterday. - Matz will be tested on the 23rd, could be back in the Marlins series. - Springer was taken out of yesterday's game due to weather concerns, could rejoin the team this week. - Atkins is optimistic they'll be back in Toronto at some point but there's a lot to work through first.

  13. Teoscar is back, Hoying optioned. Borucki is throwing off a mound, will soon progress to side sessions. Merryweather is about to start throwing off a mound. Dolis threw a bullpen yesterday, has minor symptoms of numbness in his hand (?) but apparently not a cause for concern. Matz is going to get tested on the 23rd, could potentially return in the Marlins series.
  14. Front office is focused on acquiring bullpen help but Montoyo isn't going anywhere.
  15. This is pretty frickin' cool by the MLB. Happy Father's Day to all the dads in our community.
  16. I felt the same for a fraction of a second. But the name "Breyvic" pulls you back to reality pretty quickly.
  17. For anyone still nervous about Springer from yesterday:
  18. He didn't get kicked out of the game for arguing the strike call. He got kicked out of the game because the umpire said something to provoke him and he flipped out. He was walking off the field when they initially called the strike.
  19. A Steve Simmons article getting its own thread on here might make this the darkest day in the history of BJMB. Can a mod please smite this atrocity out of existence?
  20. Solid points. On a side note, you seem like a decent commenter. Forum says you joined in December but I haven't seen you around much. You should post more. We could use more people that actually contribute to the discourse in a constructive way. Ratio of new posters being blithering idiots has always been too high on here.
  21. It's hard to say Moreno is significantly outperforming Rutschman. It's true he's been better and the biggest thing in his favor, like you said, is that he's younger. But Rutschman's numbers look incredibly clean. He's building his 164 wRC+ on a .304 BABIP and a 17.6% walk-rate, which is slightly higher than his 17.0% K-rate and lends to a .426 OBP. Those at least look like sustainable numbers. Moreno's 188 wRC+ is built on a .415 BABIP. Despite his average being 81 points higher than Rutschman, his OBP is only 4 points higher because he only walks 7.4% of the time to his 17.4% K-rate. Now, I'm hoping the low walks are only a result of him finding so much success with the bat right now and that he'll develop that ability to take the free base when he realizes you can't always spray the ball all over the field at a > .400 BA clip, but there's also no reason to assume that will happen because he's got 764 plate appearances in the minors at this point and has never shown a sustained ability to draw walks. In fact, his current 7.4% walk-rate in 2021 is the highest of his career so far and is likely in part due to pitchers pitching around him out of fear of the elite bat-to-ball skills he seems to have fully unlocked this season. That being said, Moreno's age alone gives him a massive leash and the fact that he plays at a premium position with a seemingly positive reputation as a defender and as an athlete means there is a massive amount of room for failure here. He'll definitely skyrocket up prospect lists.
  22. lol wow, Samad and Martin actually got another at-bat as a result of three straight hits from 7-8-9 guys Talley, Capra and Pruitt. Samad just drove another single so he's now 4-for-5. Martin at the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Dang, Martin struck out. Likely done for the day at 5-for-6. Lopez at the plate now with the bases still loaded. Lopez grounds out. Cats done for the day with the top of the 9th coming up.
