  2. Won't happen until Jerry retires.
  3. Wilner would be fine (better at that than what he's doing now) but reported friction between him and Howarth (a hardcore Cito guy) probably make that impossible. Zaun could do it but I don't know if they move him since he's carved out a niche for himself as a TV loudmouth. There's any number of ex Blue Jays who could do it (Barfield, Fletcher, Cruz Jr., etc.).

I liked the Bieber one but there wasn't even a joke to the Rob Ford one. Put some effort into your ribbing.
  5. I don't think either Oakland or TB are likely to move very far. They have poorly located out of date stadia in what could still be lucrative markets. There's a massive accessiblity issue with the TB stadium that makes you wonder what the original builders were thinking. A new stadium practically anywhere else in that market would be much better positioned to draw in fans. There's a reason why the other TB franchises are not where the Rays are. With Oakland it's more a question of the economic activity of the region having shifted south to San Jose (so-called Giants territory). I would say they are the least likely of the two teams to move to another market altogether. Even if they don't move to San Jose proper, Oakland should work its way south and get as close as possible. They would be fools to let SF have the entire San Francisco Bay area to themselves.
  6. Zero's also has three top 25 picks in Milb next draft and is sitting on Tanaka from the waiver draft. Factor all that in and he's pretty well stocked for the future.
  7. I like the f*** out of TorontoFan's system and the bastard knows it even if he won't trade with me.
  8. Pillar makes a ton of sense to me right now. He's the only player who can backup the OF properly and be a right-handed bat. I kind of like him him as a starving man's Reed Johnson.
  9. Well done. The only thing you left out is that some of the legwork had already been done in anticipation of a possilbe Peavy trade. This meant that AA already knew a payroll bump could be approved and that probably emboldened him. As far as I know, the Peavy trade was also entirely his idea. The thing that's frustrating is that the Team President should act as a voice of reason. He should be saying "You know, this could really back us into a corner." not "Entertainment! Track team!". Beaston thinks like an uninformed fan.
  10. Well to be fair to management, no deal should be nixed because of Jeff Mathis. It's just a shame because even though it would have been completely for the wrong reason, walking away would have been totally worth it.
  11. Yeah I wish I had gotten involved in this. I replied to Sammy on this forum but I should have PM'd him.
  12. Isn't it established that there are no additonal foreign revenues when you sign a Japanese player?
  13. Could you be any dumber?
  14. I would think the way Baseball operates with many consecutive games in the same location would offset at lot of the operating cost and keep the per game cost lower than other leagues but you're right that gate isn't even all that important anyways. It's just a bit of a pet peeve for me when people compare sports by per game popularity. The worst is when people compare the NFL to MLB and make conclusions about the popularity of the two sports based on per game ratings/gate/attendance while conveniently igoring the fact that the NFL only has a 16 game season while MLB has ten times as many.
  15. Comparing MLB per game gate revenue to other leagues is a pretty easy way to undervalue MLB. MLB has the biggest schedule so a leagues that would only match their per game revenue would be well behind in overall revenue.
  16. Yeah but peak value isn't now. Peak value is after Garza, Jimenez and Santana are signed.
  17. If Sabbathia bounces back and Pineda is healthy that rotation will be killer: Kuroda Sabbathia Tanaka Nova Pineda The lineup is still unbalanced but they definitely added wins there as well. Me thinks they'll be really good.
  18. Maybe it will have the opposite ripple effect. Either one of those pitchers would benefit greatly from pitching in Dodgers Stadium.
  19. Doesn't make sense for them to drop their asking price now. This is just like Dickey last year. If they wait out the market someone should overpay and if no one meets their price it's not like he's a bad asset to have. It's not like their asking for the moon either, Stroman and Sanchez, as eggregious a price as it may seem, is a bargain compared to what the Jays paid for Dickey last year.
  20. Although I don't carre that much about a salary cap, I agree with you that any anger towards the Yankees is misdirected. They have the most money, they would be fools not to leverage that advantage. Cahsman is doing exactly what he should be doing with the means at his disposal.
  21. Jose Cruz Jr.?
  22. Yeah I remember that season, McGriff set the Jays rookie record that season as well. I must have put 1989 because I had the 49 number in mind. I also remember Canseco's rookie in 1986, first of three for Oakland (with Walt Weiss in 1988).
  23. FFS, MLB fell behind the NFL in the seventies and in recent years it's been closing the gap but why would you let facts get in the way of an idiotic rant.
  24. Not if they don't want to. They can always walk away. If they renociate it's only because they are perfectly willing to do so and if they can find a better place to spend more power to them. I think it's great.
  25. It's only a loss for the team if the player doesn't exercises the opt-out. If he exercises it that's a win for both sides. It probably means you got good value on the front end and are spared the back end. Every team should want that.
