  1. And that's done after the draft? Edit: Never mind, just read Dinger's answer.
  2. This raises an interesting point... Could an owner forfeit their picks to maintain their waiver priority? That's essentially what this is, a cycling of waiver priority.
  3. Odds are the Yahoo! database won't have many below AA prospects but if Yahoo! derps and decides to create a massive player universe in a given year, this could change the whole complexity of the draft. You should only be drafting for the MLB roster IMO.
  4. My Spanish is garbage, sorry.
  5. I don't think the intent was to make players who haven't played in AA suddenly eligible. If that's how this reads, it should be edited.
  6. I feel like something has been lost in translation here.
  7. I think he meant to say accurate or reasonable or reliable or something like that.
  8. How is opting out burning bridges? The Blue Jays had to have every expectation that he could exercise the clause that was in his contract and negotiated in good faith. Maybe some fans were upset about that but for the team that's just business.
  9. Doesn't anyone remember? He opted out because he had so much fun playing Rock Band with Johnny Damon.
  10. A.J. Ellis is available for a low-end starter for those who are interesting in shifting garbage around.
  11. Yeah the Cards drafting philosophy is interesting because unlike Boston, they aren't necessarily making sexy looking picks but they seem to have a knack for knowing exactly what kind of player they can develop successfully.
  12. Now there's a team that drafts well. They and Boston are probably the best at it right now.
  13. Would your plan be to roster all of Kratz, Thole and Navarro?
  14. This illustrates well why it's prefferable for your platoon hitters to also provide value on defense. Not only so they can provide some value against their split but also because perceived platoon advantages are by their very nature the creatures of smaller sample sizes.
  15. Ironically, Derosa did turn out to be a good platoon bat last year and he was mostly used with the platoon advantage although probably not quite as much as he should have (131 AB out of 204 AB*). * not 250
  16. Platoons are hard to implement with todays larger bullpen but if you look at the small market teams who find a way to compete (Oakland, TB), they use platoons. Oakland emphasizes platoon splits a little more than Tampa Bay which emphasizes defensive ability and vesatility before straight platoons.
  17. I suppose it can work out if you're getting blown out with regularity. Seems like the king of thing you do if you're already tanking Astros style.
  18. Should have been done last year when he still had options. Would have worked well with AA's obsession with deep bullpens. Ship has sailed. He's not going to learn to pitch at the MLB level.
  19. It's litterally impossible for an agent to hype a player too much. That's an agent's job. Caveat emptor.
  20. Because a platoon DH with no options is a waste of a roster spot. The way to succeed using platoons is to do it with players with defensive value. That way when you're inevitably forced to used the player against the platoon advantage, the player still provides value. This is what the Rays do so well.
  21. Maybe it's better to have sign somewhere else than having him just sitting there while knowing that the team won't sign him.
  22. Specifically, he bungled the negotiations with 1st round pick James Paxton by publicly complaining about Boras' involvement (which technically isn't allowed but happens all the time). Totally bush league. There was a reason why they usually avoided Boras picks previously. If they wanted to avoid him, they could have just continued avoiding him. Better to not have a relationship than strain the relationship and get Paxton suspended.
  23. I believe McCarthy is on record saying he wouldn't wear something like this. It's not like his odds of getting hit are higher than anyone else's.
  24. Necessity is the mother of invention. Stuff will move because cutoff is close.
  25. fearthedoc and myself just swapped Marlon Byrd and Ryan Dempster in one of the unsexiest trade in league history.
