  1. Hillenbrand f***ed up plain and simple. There's a really interesting recap of that situation in the John Gibbons chapter of Great Expectations.
  2. "What's Burnett's record? Is he still only .500." - Derpy fan.
  3. This is how I feel as well. Players think they hate playing here but they never actually do when they do play here. The only players who asked out in recent years were 3B who hated the turf (Glaus, Rolen) or players desperate to win (Halladay) and they all left with class without slagging the team.
  4. As trivial at it seems, I think a lot of it is merely coddled players not wanting to go through customs on a regular basis. For players who care about their defense, the turf is a big turnoff as well (even though it's probably offset by an offensive boost).
  5. As frustrating as the inactivity has been, it's nice that AA at least seems to have gone back to being sensible. He shouldn't have had to learn that lesson the hard way though. On the balance, he's probably made more good moves than bad but his legacy will largely be shaped by what he did last year.
  6. Well it's pretty inane right now so I'm guessing I missed it. Did they say anything?
  7. Because they want to see if the bat he briefly flashed at the end of last year is real and they have an OF spot for him.
  8. Sabean's a dry humper. He's described in exactly those terms in Moneyball.
  9. Sabean leaked Rios's name to the SF media and they raked him over the coals for it. This is basically what started the Jays practice of not discussing trades because they felt the SF media cost them Lincecum.
  10. No it was Sabean. He's a notorious dry humper.
  11. JPR almost got Lincecum. He would be a Saint if around these parts if he had pulled it off.
  12. Except that we don't know what was going back in the Kinsler trade so the 20 million assumption is a faulty one.
  13. There's really been no indication that the team would increase payroll for a 2B. In fact the team seems quite content to go cheap at the position. That's another reason why Buehrle makes perfect sense.
  14. I sure hope not. Kinsler's no trade saved the franchise if that's the case.
  15. "I get [Clayton] Kershaw," Arroyo told ESPN.com. "I get why he got all that money. But then you've got guys like Dice-K [Matsuzaka], who came over here and was good for the first couple years but then didn't pan out. And when he doesn't pan out, they all just forget and go on to the next guy who's not proven, and pay him. 1. Way to conveniently forget Darvish 2. Way to be too chicken s*** to actually name Tanaka.
  16. Exactly some of it is his fault and some of it is not. No one plans for the extend of the injuries that Jays sustained last year but you can't plan for perfect health either especially with guys like Lawrie, Reyes and Bautista in the lineup and Morrow and Happ in the rotation. No one expected the specific injuries all those players got but you had to expect pretty much all of them to at least miss some time.
  17. Except that you can't win any games in the offseason. All you can do is build a team that projects to win and last year AA didn't add nearly enough projected wins for what was for all practical purposes an all win season. He kind of half-assed it.
  18. I replied directly to your email this morning (or at least I thought I did). The short answer is "no".
  19. Fine send you a pm so we can get this started while you have some semblance of coherence.
  20. I guess I can see why this makes sense to you but I think your are grossly underestimating what a mercenary attitude players have. Fans are fickle. Anyone whose been in professional sports for any ammount of time knows this and doesn't takes them seriously. Burnett knows that as soon as he signs the dotted line with the Jays, he instantly becomes a hero to Toronto again. That's just the way sports are. If he doesn't get this than he's got to be just about the dumbest of the dumb jocks.
  21. Sorry for the confusion. You threw me off when you said it's not a live draft. I guess by that you simply meant that it's not done through the Yahoo! interface but through the board just like the Rule 4 draft.
