  1. Odds are if the Q.O. is offered, Santana accepts this time because he doesn't want to be left on a lurch again. So you basically have to assume that you will feel comfortable paying him 30 million or so over two seasons. If you not comfortable doing that today then you shouldn't be any more comfortable giving him 15 million for one and just assuming that you're going to give him a q.o.
  2. Well then the hell with him then. You shouldn't be counting on the Q.O. anyways. They were probably counting on the Q.O. when they traded for Johnson and we all know how that went.
  3. Do you where one can access Winter Ball stats? I don't know how many plate appearances that would be. It's still probably not a lot but if there's some legitimate explanation for it, I might just go against my better judgement on this (and I really really don't like discarding a huge sample for a small one in normal circumstances but, you know, desperate times...).
  4. You got me. I guess I didn't see the sarcasm because I was expecting a dead serious reply along the same lines.
  5. If you go by Minor League records, Eric Thames was a much more legit offensive prospect at the time that he made the team than Sierra is now. If Sierra is a better hitter, it's because he's undergone some sort of magic transformation because he's been a 700 OPS hitter for his career to this point (Thames was nearly 900). That being said, things are so bleak right now that I'm fine with banking on magic transformations. It might be the best chance the team has.
  6. Yeah as JFaS has pointed out several times, that would be the best internal option on paper but I don't see it happening. I think the team just wants to cut ties with Thole rather than roster three catcher of if they don't want to lose him, they'll use Kratz's option (much like Thole himself started the season in the minors last year while the team went with Blanco). The basic problem is that the team didn't address his needs in the off-season and pretty much has to go with the s*** at the wall approach. Might as well see what Sierrra, Goins, etc. can do. It's not a contending team's approach but this team is so damn passive that I don't even know if it's even trying to contend at this point. It feels like the team is holding on to its veterans more for marketing reason than in order to make a real push.
  7. Rostering a platoon DH really does a number on your bench especially when you're probably also planning to have a long bullpen. Backup 1B doesn't do a whole lot to improve that since he'll probably be even worse than EE and Lind at the postiion but I guess it's something.
  8. So far he's clearly winning the race to not get DFA'd since McGowan, Redmond and Jeffres have all been pretty bad. Right now McGowan is probably the one I'd most like to see get the axe because I'm tired of holding a roster spot for a human interset story. It's just so unprofessional. I hate Sierra for his lack of defensive value and wanted him DFA'd pretty bad before spring training but since no external option was brought in he might be the best option for right-handed DH. Pillar is more complete player bu he isn't exactly setting the world on fire. Sierra, from what I understand, had a great winter ball season. I'm skeptical of his new found successe especially since he's been bad for so long and I don't know that he's doing anything different but there's not much to lose by letting him play until he fails at this point. Pillar will still be available when he does.
  9. Should it though? The team wasn't comfortable giving one to Johnson this year. Do we think they will be more willing to give one to Santana after a year of pitching his home games at the Rogers Centre? The option to Q.O. is nice to have but I don't think you should ever sign a player with the assumption that you're going to give a Q.O. So much can change between now and then. Frankly if you think you need the comp pick atttached to the Q.O. to justify the signing than the signing probably isn't justified in the first place.
  10. I'm not arguing the merits of rooting against a player. I'm not a big fan of it myself but I understand and respect the reasoning. What I'm saying (for the milionth time) is that Gruber has no business getting angry at people for rooting against Goins when he uses essentially the same logic for rooting against Happ.
  11. No you're a hypocrite for wanting Happ to fail while also criticizing those who want Goins to fail. You either think it's right to root against your team's players or you don't. Nothing hypocritical if you're consistant.
  12. He should have just accepted that damn Twins offer. Can we just give this money to Drew please and let the Orioles deal with this.
  13. O.K. so he's not signing yet just telling teams that if he doesn't get a no QO promise, he'll go with the Twins? Really starting to hate this guy.
  14. We're caught in the Angrioter vortex.
  15. And the Cards with the third easiest.
  16. So he's accepting three year from the Twins because the teams offereing one year can't promise him that he won't be QO'ed? Well f him then.
  17. From a player development perspective, it doesn't make sense to worry about whether Stroman will have to be converted to relief at a point where he might not even be under team control anymore. It's all about getting the most out of those six years of control not what happens after.
  18. Wouldn't that hold true of any starter who throw hard? If you converted starters into relievers just because they could potentially be more effective in that role, all you would ever have for starters is a bunch of junk ballers. You convert your hard throwers to relief if and when they can't cut it as starters because relievers no matter how good have less value. How good a reliever Stroman is/could be is a secondary concern.
  19. Kazmir is another example of a guy who ran into durability issues but not before putting together good seasons as a starter. No one should be complaining if Stroman has a similar career to either of those.
  20. Angrioter?
  21. Yeah but you can't create new datasets reto-actively hence the interest of testing the current formulas. Then again, there may be no way to adjust for flaws in the old datasets. The flaws will be there even if you tinker with the formula.
  22. I don't think anyone would begrudge you that.
  23. Geez... I certainly didn't want to suggest that. I just wondered if you had a driver's license or anything else dude (or dudette) might want back. If he or she is any smart, the credit card is already cancelled anyways. Is it normal for Torontonians to carry that kind of cash?
