  1. In 2015 Tepera was legit terrible. People who only look a his surprisingly decent 2016 numbers defend him but that's a smaller sample size. He still has a FIP of 5 for his career which shows that it's not irrational to feel like he hasn't undone 2015. It's actually literally true. He's not that good. He's not that young. If he build on 2016, he should be fine for the AAA taxi role that he's likely to play but f*** me if he gets high leverage work.
  2. Neris + Gomez for Porcello + Ellsbury
  3. Pagan is pretty much all that's left.
  4. (In before racist joke)
  5. The team didn't get any better on paper nor did it get any younger. It has to be considered worse. Maybe not by much but still probably worse. Health will play a big role. With good health the team should still be a deadline contender. A few bad breaks and it could be a lost season.
  6. Yes but what do we care about how effective someone would be with a theoretical velocity increase? All that really matters is how effective they can be now at their current velocity. Both Howell and Estrada should be effective. That's what matters.
  7. The way I see it, Smoak and Carter are both feast/famine hitters except that Carter is an established feast/famine hitter while Smoak is just an aspiring one. Offensively, that's a no brainer upgrade given that you're getting a more successful version of the same thing. The only caveat I can think of is the gap in defensive ability. I'm not sure how much that negates the offensive upgrade.
  8. I don't see why anyone would worry about his velocity. He's not coming in to be a lights out closer. He's coming in to be a loogy and he has the skill set for that role. Between him and Loup, the bullpen should have what it takes to suppress left-handed bats at a combined cost that will probably be less than what the top guys will command.
  9. No and it's probably a really practical haircut for someone whose job has them wearing a hat all the time.
  10. I think we've exhausted this topic...
  11. Hum... The latest Chris Carter news is um... not good. I'm probably in the market for a 1B too. Probably moreso than the other two. No one is off limits.
  12. It's no different than voting an injured player into the All Star Game. If he can't make it, someone else gets the gig but you still recognized the value of his accomplishment.
  13. There are way more eyeballs on Jackie Redmond if she takes the Jays gig. Would be a bad career move to turn it down (assuming it's offered of course).
  14. Wasn't it the exact same process as Castro?
  15. I don't think the nuance was lost actually. NJH said "almost bullied at certain points". He was clearly putting a lot of asterisks on "bullying" with that phrasing.
  16. No it doesn't but everyone's wired differently. I mean I get the general idea that just because he took it well doesn't mean that he should continue to take it. The players never seemed to come around to him no matter how willing he was to self deprecate so it was not going to get better. Kind of seems like Sportsnet's been grooming Jackie Redmond to take over his gig.
  17. Not holding him back for depth in 2015 was lousy roster construction. It's possible that it was also bad for his development but that's less certain. It's very similar to the Travis Snider scenario where you have to wonder if it just wasn't in the cards. You would hope that if these prospects are truly good that their careers could get back on track through force of sheer talent..
  18. His post doesn't contradict that. In fact it says that they were probably justified in feeling that way since Osuna was such a long shot. I don't think you understood his post.
  19. He always seemed like a good sport though even when you felt embarrassed for him as a viewer. Anyways, he seems like a decent, affable nerd and I wish him the best. If nothing else he gave us this awesome gif.
  20. I'm interested in doing a pre-cut upgrade to the OF or to 2B. Top 100 prospect Stephen Gonsalves can be had in the right deal and maybe even better prospects for someone really good.
  21. I wouldn't say expertly "pumped". AA's kind of lucky not to have tanked his value exposing him to the majors. The best way to preserve his value would have been to keep him in the minors though ultimately it didn't really seem to hurt.
  22. Well in that case, yeah, they should have taken away their first rounder next year when it would have actually hurt if they were serious about punishing the team (perhaps they weren't).
  23. I'm really cloudy on what the compensation rules will be next year but IIRC it's still basically the same system with the only difference being that there are limits on how many times the same player can get a q.o. So assuming the rules are more or less the same, if you take away their first rounder next year, you're still giving them a free shot at a qualified free agent. Putting this off doesn't solve anything. The same loophole will be there every year. Might as well just get it over with.
  24. He did it because of threads like this one. Clearly it backfired because now we're speculating about what absence of social media means as opposed to the meaning of what happens on social media.
