  1. I'm o.k. with this. Slightly higher injury risk than spring training I guess just because he'll play more but the extra time should help him get sharp more quickly. As we've seen with Stroman, Saunders and others, it's not like spring training is some sort of injury free zone.
  2. Maybe I'm crazy but I find that kind of awesome. Also is that Tom Glavine pitching for the Pirates? Is that a thing that happened?
  3. Yeah if you are going to do red, that jersey was pretty much perfect. Of course, that's the whole problem. If you're going to sell these than they have to look significantly different and there was nowhere to go but down from that design.
  4. Modelling jerseys is probably his best baseball skill after defense.
  5. I hadn't even considered that this was a Canada 150 thing. If that was the rationale then it's weird that they didn't try to incorporate the Canada 150 logo (not that it would make me like the uni any more than I do). On the plus side, if it is a Canada 150 thing then they should theoretically only be around for one season.
  6. The are like REALLY red. Even the logo has a red wash on it. It's worse than I expected. Ultimately whatever's good for the bottom line is good for the team but I agree with whoever said that competing colour schemes take away from crowd scenes. Best case scenario is for a bunch of people to impulse buy these while hardly ever wearing them. That would be the best of both worlds. Let's go BLUE Jays!
  7. Yes mostly because of a few quotes he made back when he was a MLB manager.
  8. ... and 2015 IIRC.
  9. Nope. Hasn't had them for awhile actually.
  10. I'd expect a huge voting gap between Chipper and Rolen that won't reflect their actual value. The Hall of Fame is messy. How you were portrayed in the media and how much media attention you got in the first place still factor hugely.
  11. No that was my main point. If you're looking for an alternative to Pompey, Ramirez makes more sense than Gurriel.
  12. Harold Ramirez is a more realistic alternative to Pompey tbh.
  13. Just yanking your chain. I do it more than you.
  14. Aren't you a grammar nazi?
  15. I'm not a fan of dated 70's looks like powder blues and white panel hats but either of those are far preferable to red uniforms. Not only is that an ugly uniform colour but it's also an ugly uniform that they already used for the Canada gimmick which they've now robbed of its novelty. http://38.media.tumblr.com/3d5d5476bb03e170f3f5ab872990eb88/tumblr_nd1m08lF5G1s6gs4do1_500.gif
  16. Gose on anything other than a MILB deal with a short leash would make no sense. I'd actually be into trying him out as a reliever. He was considered a better pitching prospect when he was drafted but he insisted that he would only sign with a team that made him an OF (kind of a red flag in hindsight). Maybe now he wouldn't be so insistent (though I kind of doubt it).
  17. Accountants probably figured out that they needed to get new products out there. There's probably a spreadsheet somewhere that tells you how often you need to put a new design on the market. Hopefully it's not hideous though ultimately it will be good for business and whatever's good for business could potentially trickle its way down to the product on the field.
  18. When do centerfielders over 30 ever work out? Guys like Beltran, Gardiner and Granderson have made the transition away from CF fairly well but it seems like there are so many cautionary tales: Vernon Wells, Gary Matthews Junior, Melvin Upton, Jason Heyward...
  19. Did this joke just go over everyone's head? Not a single thanks for this little piece of brilliance.
  20. Yeah and assuming that Jimenez has the above average defense that he's purported to have than having him on the roster is not that big a deal because Reese McGuire is the real backup if Martin needs to be replaced for a sustained period.
  21. s*** I misspoke. I had him mixed up with Dan Lozano.
  22. Bautista also has an utter tool as his agent. That may have factored in.
  23. I didn't realize it defaulted to recent years. That's kind of dumb but I still should clued in given who the list was populated by.
  24. Mariano Rivera is third all time in WPA and Hoffman is 11th. That's among all pitchers not just relievers. Just because these guys pitched less doesn't mean they didn't contribute a lot. The idea that some journeyman who gives you 200 innings is worth more than absolutely peak performance over 60-70 innings is bogus. I'm not sure why it's so persistent. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=3&season=2016&month=0&season1=1871&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=3,d
