  1. That's some pretty nice contingencies. Probably not worth it for them to look outside the system for a replacement though the fact that Fister is still around and only costs money would make him somewhat attractive despite not pitching very well lately.
  2. Do you really think that spring training lineup card means something or are you just poking the bear?
  3. De Jong is interesting. Don't get me wrong, AA's decision to sacrifice him and Locastro for the sake of going all in on Vlad Junior looks like it was worth it. Vlad is on the fast track to be the number one prospect in baseball and De Jong is a different animal, one of those guys who might provide sneaky value without generating much hype but not a guy you miss if Vlad fulfills his promise. All the same, it would have been nice to get De Jong back. Still it's not like the Mariners gave up nothing exactly. Jackson was a top 10-ish prospect for the Mariners and Zabala is young, throws hard and makes for a pretty attractive lottery ticket.
  4. It doesn't seem like the Jays are interested in pushing any current assets like Smoak or Carrera off the roster. They seem to value those guys more than this board generally does.
  5. He doesn't put anyone anywhere. It's a statistical model. That's like saying Steamer is garbage because if failed to predict so and so's breakout.
  6. LOL @ story of the spring after half a week.
  7. Agreed but at the same time, if they don't sign Smith maybe they end up holding their dicks and you don't want that either. We all liked the Smith terms at the time.
  8. I'm hoping that the team stays competitive and doesn't have to contemplate dumping Tulo's contract. There's a scary amount of money left on it but as long as he keeps playing a competent shortstop, he'll still be a contributor.
  9. Some of Callum's writing is really cringe worthy. Looks it's cool that Cuban baseball is a niche interest of Callum but there's a way to talk about it without self-aggrandizing. Ugh. What does this paragraph have to do with Lourdes as an individual? What does Callum really know (if anything) about Lourdes' style of play? Yes he comes from a different baseball culture but that doesn't mean he's like Yunel, Yasiel or Yoenis and, frankly, while all those players have had to adjust to a more buttoned down baseball culture, it's really reductive to imply that their personal experiences were the same. They were in fact very different and they have adapted in different ways and with differing levels of success. To not acknowledge that is really sloppy and borderline insulting to the players. Lourdes is his own person and has his own path to follow. Reaching out to other Cuban players might be part of that but what does Callum really know about it? He's talking through his ass here and randomly adding Bautista to the paragraph is just more sloppiness.
  10. Middle infield depth is good. If he can be a good shortstop and/or second baseman that's great but I wouldn't push Travis or Tulo out if that were the case. I'd rather have the flexibility to use all three. If he can be developed as an in-house Zobrist type, that would be amazing because it's very hard to buy middle infield depth (anyone really good wants to start and you're usually left with fairly one dimensional players for backup roles). If he can also cover 3B on odd Donaldson day off, he would probably find more than enough at bats given Tulo's age and injury history and lingering question about Travis's durability. There's a chance he's not a starting caliber player anyways and is more of a utility role talent in the first place but even if he is a starting caliber player, I don't see really any advantage to not trying to benefit from his flexibility.
  11. That's because you're only reading that one list. Sickels site produces a ton of free content. Top prospect lists for all teams with much more detailed breakdowns, sleeper lists, write-ups on all the callups, draft prospect reports through the year. Saying he doesn't provide information is a very unfair criticism to lay on someone who provides a mountain of free content year in and year out.
  12. Some teams are activating players from the minors and don't need all their waiver picks. Other teams have N\A of DL eligible players and could use the extra picks. I think it makes sense to give teams the opportunity to move picks where they are needed though as we saw in LOD, flexible rules don't guarantee an optimal distribution of picks. You can only make it possible. You can't force it to happen. Soooooooooooo.... I guess I'm saying I'm in favour of B but I agree with you that the stakes are pretty low. Honestly, I think it's in the league's interest to opt for whatever Z3R0S prefers because, let's be honest, he's more likely than you to be the one updating the picks.
  13. http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/5c/5cc426603205b95e62dc170ed47664370e49206550c064dc9fcd265cb1043fa8.jpg
  14. Probably something Sayre said.
  15. I have never heard of any personal issues or anything like that. The biggest mark against him seems to just be age related decline. In addition to that, you have to figure his Agent must not have played the market very well. I've felt like he was a fit for the Jays from day one of the off season so I'm heartened that he's still on the market. I'm really hoping the Jays decide to sign him now that he should come pretty cheap.
  16. The (depressing) story of Jake Eliopoulos. http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/mlb/losing-jake-the-amazing-life-and-tragic-death-of-a-young-blue-jays-prospect
  17. Some Cherrington audio: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-cherington-player-development-lived-every-day/
  18. Seems like lack of predictability should only matter if the results are less than stellar. If the player looks advanced but the results aren't quite there, you worry because there's no obvious route to improvement. If the results are there than it seems like kind of a dumb concern.
  19. Not getting any points for Trea Turner hurt my standings.
  20. I've heard of pricing algorithms that even pick up on things in your browser cache. This is a scenario where one needs to clear their browser history and keep trying until the calculation is more favorable. All kinds of things can factor. For instance prices are usually higher on Mondays because that's when keeners do their shopping.
  21. O.K. Didn't think so but I misread your post and was thrown off. I read it as "as a corner OF" when you actually wrote "at a corner OF".
