  1. He's already filling the lefty with back issues void.
  2. Geez, why would anyone question the Diamondbacks talent evaluators?
  3. Three out of the last 4 batters are switch hitters.
  4. With some luck (maybe a lot of luck), Dirks can be the new Lind and provide that missing dangerous lefty.
  5. s***, should have taken him over Graveman. I figured I could pick him up as a FA.
  6. Thanks for posting. That completes the portrait a bit. I didn't realize he had earned his bachelor's.
  7. Bautista has had a different path than the average Dominican player. Because his parents are well off, he wasn't pressured financially to sign as a teenager. He completed his high school, played in the NCAA (Junior College) and came up through the draft not the IFA system. I would guess he took some business classes when he had the chance.

Can the Leafs be trusted not to overate the value of a potential return? This is an honest question because I don't follow hockey enough to know. It's my understanding that the Leafs have put their trust in a young anlytics guy but whether he's the real deal or just someone who has successfully marketed himself as such is something I don't know. From what I understand, all the hockey teams are still pretty much in the wilderness when it comes to analytics.
  9. Bautista grew up in a business environment. Both his parents have Master's Degrees and were business executives in the D.R. He's probably picked up on quite a few things just through inadvertent exposure. The business world is something he's familiar with and probably quite interested in as well. He probably intends to pursue it full time after his baseball career is over. It only makes sense that he would have already have planted some seeds.

  11. These guys will either make the team or be cut. They will not be kept around to provide MiLB depth. That being said some solid depth acquisitions who could potentially be kept in the minors have already been made this off-season such as Matt West, Ramon Santiago, Juan Oramas, Ezequiel Carrera, Daric Barton, Andy Dirks.
  12. I think Span might outperform Souza but he's old. I don't really like the other guys but I figured I might extract as much value as I could. Not sure how long I'm going to hold on to any of this but maybe I'll luck into better performances than I'm expecting from Pompey and Cole. I'm really not sure how I'm going to make it all work but Souza may never be worth more than he is now. A really good, right now player as a centerpiece for Souza was hard to lift my nose at.

  14. Never got the email but I knew I was up anyways and have been stalling.
  15. Seriously considered him as a handcuff for Rosario with my last pick but I hate handcuffing and he's got two guys ahead of him so I passed. If I would have known you were taking him next, I probably would have taken him just to stash him away but I wouldn't have felt great about it.
  16. Not necessarily. The may cut him loose at the end of the spring. There's no formal opt out but AA's comments imply that he won't be forced to stay if he doesn't want to.
  17. I suppose if he makes the team we can have this argument all over again. Might as well wait until then. For now, I'll just second what BTS said which is that the signing makes me nervous. We've seen bench spots given to this type of player before. I hope we don't see it again.
  18. Fielded an interesting offer for Souza and didn't say no right away which I guess means I'm pretty open to trading him.
  19. Except that you already have a guy who fits that profile in Danny Valencia who also happens to be out of options and has to make the team or be lost.
  20. I sure hope you're right and that the end game is to convince him to go to Buffalo otherwise it's basically the Moises Sierra scenario all over again.
