  1. You can't recognize T.J. House when you see him?
  2. I'm starting to feel a Barton/Valencia platoon. Would be nice to have a really good fielding 1B even if it's not everyday. It's been awhile since the Jays had someone like that.
  3. The more I think about it, the more I see it.
  4. That's funny I would take a weak grounder over a homerun 100 times out of 100.
  5. Dickey and Norris bonding over their mutual love of beards, baseball and Jesus.
  6. I think only Morrow of those four but I'm not sure. He would have been with Seattle when he was a prospect so I wouldn't have necessarily paid much attention. Considering his draft position and his raw skill set it certainly seems quite likely. The other three weren't that highly ranked. I don't think any of them ever made a top 100 much less a top 50. Other than Snider, the Jays really didn't make much noise on prospect lists back then. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean that much. A lot of prospects never put together the kind of good season that Marcum, Cecil and Romero had when they were at their best.
  7. Yeah there's the odd situation that might justify bringing him in earlier as Gibbons alluded to this spring but for the most part you don't need to stray too much from the traditional role to give your closer the most leverage.
  8. But you don't base your decision on "oh well, you never know", you look at probabilities. Saying Sanchez should start over Estrada because he has a higer probability of winning the Cy Young makes no sense when that probability is practically non existent. It's theoretically possible sure but nothing we know suggests this.
  9. I'm sorry but this has no basis in reality.
  10. O.K. but if he continues to pitch this bad, he won't be attractive to other teams and could be optioned to AAA. I'd hate to not give him a chance to get straightened out in AAA when the rotation has already been thinned out. Occasional mop up duty from the bullpen isn't the answer. That being said, we don't know how the rest of the spring will play out.
  11. It's just hard to not be influenced by what you see on the boxscores even if you tell yourself you won't be.
  12. Much like Smoak though, Estrada could fall victim to the small sample size game. Homerun rate over small sample sizes doesn't mean much but high homerun rate over a small sample size combined with a high one over a long sample last year, could spell trouble for him. Remember the Jays gave up on Jesse Chavez over far less than this.
  13. I seem to recall something to the effect that he could be cut for a minimal cost but maybe that opportunity has passed. In any case, the salary may make it easier to clear him and option him to the minors. I would definitely prefer that then putting him in the bullpen where there are already a couple of long men in Hendriks and Redmond.
  14. As a starter, you can work around a propensity to give up homers by doing other things well and providing some length (see R.A. Dickey), that's harder to do as a reliever. It's not a good role for him and never was. If he doesn't cut it as a starter, he'll get cut and that's how it should be.
  15. At worst, Edwin could play the field on those days. You'd want to give him some time there anyways.
  16. I liked it for Boxy and said as much. I like the trust your instincts moxy of it. Also, I need to see more before I climb on the Rodon bandwagon (nearly everyone else seem firmly planted there though).
  17. Can't see the Diamondback doing that. Cahill is a bounce back candidate for them. No reason to move him if there's no money saved. Maybe Estrada + Navarro but then that doesn't really help pitching depth much at all unless the Jays are very confident that Cahill is an upgrade (something a lot of people would doubt).
  18. Yeah Barton beating out Smoak is hardly crazy. Certainly better than going with a pure project like Viciedo who could be a black hole on both sides of the ball. Barton at least has a floor, arguably the best of the three.
  19. I'm pretty pleased with my Ketel Marte pick. Young Jose Reyes comparisons get thrown around. We'll have a better idea by next year if there's any legitimacy to that but I'll take that any day as a speculative play.
  20. Thread has litterally gone to s***. Time to lock it up.
  21. He's a 42% FB hitter for his career. For comparison, Bautista and Encarnacion are both at 45%. Smoak is the right KIND of player for the Jays to target but of course fitting the profile doesn't guarantee anything.
