  1. Huh? Do you mean King? I don't have that many go-to pictures.
  2. Bring back Tomo Ohka!
  3. Wouldn't that make them all at least a year older?
  4. I they want Castro's fastball in the bullpen that badly, why not Infante?
  5. lol. I was just using him as an example. Matt West could suck for all I know. I'm just saying that there are a bunch of these kinds of guys who could potentially provide as much value in a bullpen role as the starter prospects. If not Matt West than Wilton Lopez or Greg Infante. The point is you can find effective relievers without burning your top starting prospects. If Castro and Osuna were in the high minors just knocking on the door and you didn't have anywhere else to play them, it would be a different story but that's hardly the case.
  6. That's irrelevant. Wasting these guys in bullpen roles when the Matt Wests of the world can likely perform just as well is pointless.
  7. It just seems like such a waste to me. There are plenty of good bullpen only candidates that could make this team. There's just no reason to burn option year on top starting prospects. It would be poor asset management and would kind of reek of desperation.
  8. There was a period in his careeer where Halladay moved away from the strikeout (2006-2007). Those weren't particular successful seasons by his standards and he had what could be described as a second prime starting in 2008 when he struck out more guys than ever before. The Halladay found success when he de-emphasized strikeouts narrative gets really overblown. Yes he was able to find success with less strikeouts but he wasn't better than he was before or even more durable during those seasons and his high strikeout 2008-2011 run blows those seasons out of the water.
  9. Yeah I like Tolleson but it's kind of overkill with the lefty mashers right now. The three best hitters are righties, Valencia is out of options so he has to take a bench spot, Pillar is the 4th OF and Navarro though a swith-hitter is stronger from the right side and Viciedo might even steal the 1B/DH role away from Smoak. The last bench guy really doesn't need to be a guy like Tolleson in that case. Give me the switch hitter Santiago or even the lefty Kawasaki.
  10. Yeah Izturis and Tolleson are the ones who can't be sent down and if you assume Travis takes over the position at some point, at least one of them will have to be DFA when that happens. Rather than roster both now just to delay that decision, I'd rather make a decision now about which one is worth keeping and roster whichever one that is and have a better backup ss on the bench.
  11. If Saunders can't start the season, I'd rather the extra OF be Carrera who is a good outfielder and a lefty over Tolleson who is a bad OF and a righty. I don't really see a role for Tolleson. His strength is hitting lefties and that's not really an area of need. I guess with his verastily they could use him in an extremly short bench with Navarro and Valencia but that's a terrible configuration. I'd much rather have a dedicated backup OF and a dedicated backup MI.
  12. I think he provides the most logical pairing for Izturis.
  13. I guess my point was that I felt that you were selling him short in your description by not mentioning his defensive value.
  14. I think you're selling Santiago short here. He's one of the better options for backup SS.
  15. Korecky's a good player but I thought he was a write off at this point. Glad to know he's still in the picture because it just adds to an already pretty solid list of bullpen options.
  16. Yeah I don't have a problem with that. It's good to take note of red flags. The only thing I have a problem with is the idea that Verducci has some sort of methodology for identifyng problem cases that's any better than what a random sample would give you and I know that's not your position so we're cool. I remember Cole Hamels making one of these Verducci lists after his World Series year and that was one case were the workload increase was so eggregious that I did follow his advice and avoided Hamels in fantasy.
  17. It's funny to think that before he was drafted, Norris was basically only known to us for his allegedly outrageous salary demands. In the end, he signed for much less than what the experts were predicting. In hindsight, it seems like that aspect of his personality was scouted very poorly. He may have an ego but he's clearly not motivated by money.
  18. There's nothing especially prophetic about predicting that a successful pitcher will regress and or get injured.
  19. The Verducci effect is an interesting theory but from what I understand it's been pretty thoroughly debunked in the sabermetrics community. Verducci is not a stats guy and he keeps moving the goal posts to make his theory work so that he can hold on to his claim to fame.
  20. I think it beautifully exemplifies the chronic lack of self-awareness.
  21. So waivers run until March 12? For some reason I thought players were coming off waivers today.
  22. I like Arcia and Robertson but neither has played in AA. I don't know if that matters in the FC.
  23. Didn't realize Korecky was still around and pitching.
