  1. Yeah but the primary goal should be getting value out of him not necessarily trading him. If you can get value out of him by playing him, that's ideal.
  2. He's a Major League pitcher of some repute.
  3. Makes a lot of sense to see if Boyd can help you now before you trade him.
  4. Speaking of which the other Zimm (Ryan) is signed through 2020 and is a full time 1B now. The EE idea doesn't add up for the Nats at all.
  5. I can only assume the world team pitching staff was easier to break than the U.S. one because Boyd's having a much better season than Labourt.
  6. So basically number or seasons by a 3B. Sorry to be anal about this but I think it's a meaningful distinction. They aren't 81 Josh Donaldson's in the history of baseball. There may have been 81 Josh Donaldson type seasons but the number of 3B capable of putting up such a season is less than 81.
  7. Dude, argue your point if you want but cut the crazy. Just because Smokey made some half hearted defense of Moogie doesn't make him Moogie. They are nothing like each other and becoming Moogie conspiracy theorists just feeds Moogie's own narrative that were obsessed with him.
  8. I really don't see a path for the A's to "win the trade big time". Even if Lawrie + Graveman + Nolin were to collectively out WAR Donaldson, there's far less value in having that WAR value divided amongst three guys. You can find guys that individually provide the value that Lawrie, Nolin and Graveman will produce but you can't find guys like Donaldson. He is a basebal unicorn. Guys that good with affordable control are practically non existant and the ones that do exist do not get traded. There's no way the A's can win this trade short term. There's a chance (not a great one IMO) that they win long term with Barreto.
  9. + plus defensive limitations He's just not a great assett at all when he's not beasting. It's hard to make room on your roster for a guy like this at the best of times and not many will bother when there are question marks. Probably best to just ride it out.
  10. I don't really think Boston wants another DH type bat. At least I don't think they should want one.
  11. I wouldn't trade for EE if I was a National League team.
  12. Foot infection doesn't sound like something that has wider implications. Seems like a pretty trivial setback actually. I don't see how he's any more of a longshot to make it than he was before.
  13. Here's the thing... Is it fair to assume that the Jays will put up the same pythagorean record going forward? For all we know they've played the best ball they will all season and saddly don't have as much to show for it as they should. You really have to throw that out the window and just evaluate what you have. You can''t just assume the same run differential going forward. Depth issues could catch up to the Jays in a hurry. It really behooves the team to address them.
  14. Here's how the number break down: Arm Pillar 2.1 Kiermaier -0.9 Range Pillar 1.1 Kiermaier 13.8 Error Runs Pillar 0.4 Kiermaier 0.1. So basically Pillar has a better arm, Pillar makes fewer errors, Pillar plays a great overall mistake free CF but none of that comes close to making up for the fact that Kiermaier has otherworldly range that Pillar simply can't touch.
  15. You don't want to keep yo-yoing him between AAA and the MLB. You want him to really show he's ready. His K/BB for the season in AAA is still under 2. You'd like to see him bring that up closer to what it was in 2014 (3.79). I'm fine with Doubront for now though he's not necessarily the answer either and neither is Randy Wolf.
  16. Kiermaier is oustanding. That's not really suspect.
  17. All MLB has to do is scrap the stupid one click voting but rather then admit their mistake and fix it ASAP, this will probably do something more radical.
  18. The Red Sox almost seems like they are two different teams. Great draft and development team. Lots of good small decisions but terrible, terrible decisions with big money (can't really blame them on Moncada though, everyone thought he'd be a lot better).
  19. I don't think that's the point. You can't rewrite the W-L record to this point and make it reflect the run differential. It's too late for that. So yeah run differential doesn't matter in the sense that it's a hollow victory. It might tell you that you have something to work with going forward but you shouldn't refuse to address your holes because of a hollow victory. Plug the holes, improve your chances to win.
