  1. Same thing for me and I'm probably older than you.
  2. Intolerance = Christian value
  3. Probably not but it does make sense to have a contingency. Not to mention that if Pompey does perform to or above expectations, that opens up the possibility of Bautista getting more DH or 1B starts. I'm a fan of a Revere/Cola platoon where Bautista only plays the outfield against lefties. Outfield depth makes something like that possible.
  4. Snap are hilarious. "I will attack and you don't want that" has got to be the most prosaic threat ever.
  5. For the longest time, I thought that was Tom Jones. Even when Guardians came out I thought holy s*** this Blue Swede band is covering Tom Jones note for note (derp).
  6. Well the terrible employer might actually be appealing in this case. AA might prefer to be the smartest guy in the room. That's a luxury he had under Beeston/Rogers and one he would probably have under Loria but definitely not one he would have under Shapiro/Rogers.
  7. Yes but it can be pretty easy to pull the wool over a meddlesome owner/boss who is basically ignorant. I work in an ITish postion and I find having bosses with no real understanding of what I do buys me a lot of freedom. That's a luxury AA wouldn't have had under Shapiro.
  8. If it turns out that AA turned his back on Canada and the Jays for an opportunity with Loria and The Marlins, I will have to re-evaluate every positive thing I ever thought about him. I mean I have had plenty of criticism of him as a GM but this would be the first really public indication that he might be a bit of a s***.
  9. Oh yeah... I could definitely play a role, it just seems unlikely that he would be so coy about if it was his primary motivation. There's no doubt that going from Beeston to Shapiro is a huge culture change and an exhausted, overworked AA might simply not have had it in him to keep sacrificing potential family time for a new boss who probably would have held him to tighter scrutiny over baseball decisions. For the record, I'm not totally convinced by this Marlins thing. There doesn't seem to be anything to it other than a coincidence in timing.
  10. If that's the case why didn't he mention spending more time with his family as a motivation in his conference call? That's a pretty standard thing to say when retiring from a high profile position, people ususally say that even if they don't mean it and AA didn't say that at all even as a smokescreen. Now it's possible that having made the decision to leave, he will come to appreciate the time off and decide that he'd rather spend time with his family than pursue another opportuity but there's really no indication from him or anyone else that family was his motivation.
  11. It's so stupid that they won't pull the blog on such a doomed endeavour. Instead they re-brand it "Texture by NextIssue". Yeah like that's going to make a difference. They have advertised the f*** out of nextissue already and nobody cares. Clearly the problem is the product.
  12. I just want to state this plainly. The quote above is you playing the victim and being a HUGE *******. You have been provided links, you have been provided explanations. When you either failed (or refused) to understand them, you lashed out at everyone LIKE A BIG JERK. Here's another article you can read. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/granderson-and-left-field/ The CF-playing-a-corner guy doesn’t magically lose some range when shifting to a corner. His physical abilities are the same, and his ability to cover ground to his left and right remains the same. The only difference is that instead of covering two gaps, he’s now covering one gap and one line. (...) The total difference in defensive performance between the two alignments is simply the drop in value in right-center balls caught minus the rise in value in left field line balls caught. We’re talking about a marginal difference on just a handful of balls in play over a full season. We’re talking about fractions of a run.
  13. I'm not sure if Thole is entirely negative. His framing numbers have been pretty solid in the past.
  14. http://www.breakingblue.ca/2015/10/20/chris-young-better-than-you-think/
  15. I think the notion of controlling your own destiny holds a lot of appeal for players. Conversely, trying to explain to them that they might not actually get any offers and be able to exercise the amount of control they think they will get is probably a tough sell for agents (and that's assuming that the agents even see it coming). So yeah I do agree that players are more likely to make a mistake one way than the other but I also think teams have been a bit lucky to not have anyone accept yet. That's bound to change if a team pushes it lucks. As for Estrada, I'm not comfortable assuming he'll turn it down but like most people I can live with paying him one year at the q.o. rate and I think given his statements at the presser, Shapiro can probably live with that too (higher payroll = higher risk tolerance).
  16. I still don't see what harm there would have been in giving them a shot rather than making a reliever out of your top starting prospects (actually two of your top starting prospects if you count Castro). It's not like Castro and Osuna wouldn't still have been options if West and Guilmet didn't turn out. I still maintain that was a bizarre and unnecesary move albeit one that did turn out quite well for Osuna.
  17. Yes I know. Not sure why our signals got crossed there.
  18. Didn't Ervin Santana turn down a q.o. as well? I think you could assemble a list of players who fall in that category. Just saying "no one ever accepted it" is not really a complete argument because some clearly should have.
  19. The bigger issue was that between Bonifacio and Izturis, he didn't have a good defensive 2B who could backup SS adequately in case of an injury. Instead he merely had two bad 2Bs. So it's not that Izturis was a bad contract in isolation but given the overall roster contstruction, AA would have been far better off just holding on to Aviles, a player capable of providing defensive value who didn't need to be signed to FA terms. It was an ill advised and unnecesary signing but ultimately only one small part in a massive turd of an off-season.
  20. No but there definitely have been cases where the player should have accepted. Stephen Drew being the most obvious example.
  21. Since you like to have things pedantically explained to you. Strawman A Boxy thinks you're dumn because you disasgree with him. No Boxy disagrees with a lot of people. He doesn't always think them dumn. He thinks you're dumn because of he finds the things you write not only wrong but also dumn. Strawman B No one ever said the Donaldson trade was bad. In fact the Donaldson trade is being used a yard stick for good trades as in the Grandal trade is so good that it's better than the Donaldson trade. That implies that the Donaldson trade is a very good deal.
  22. Oh it's silly arlight. This thread will probably reach 50 pages.
  23. What hast though wrought?
  24. Look I know Boxy doesn't always play nice but this is still out of line.
