  1. Yeah there's a bit of gloating over this but it really sucks. I mean whatever anyone may feel about you or the Yankees, the guy was a really exciting talent and this is a loss for baseball. Though they are completely different kinds of 1B, this reminds me of when injuries stole Nick Johnson's career.
  2. Torn labrum too which is no joke. Any precedent for position players with this injury? It's certainly pretty bad for pitchers.
  3. Posted this on ProBoards but I figure it might generate more interest here: Looking to add 3-4 roster pieces at some combination of the following positions: 3B, RP, C, SS On the block: Two top 5 waiver picks including #1 (potentially the Maeda pick) All other picks
  4. Holy f***! Can't believe they still make those. Seems like such a relic from the 80s.
  5. Aggressive ranking on Bregman. I like it.
  6. Atkins has some quirky tics. Lots of shoulder shrugging and nodding and chewing motions when he's listening.
  7. Once Travis comes back, there shouldn't be any reason to go that deep on the depth chart.
  8. Barney is on the 25. Izturis is on a MiLB deal. Keep up.
  9. So Izturis is the new Kawa?
  10. Nose bleeds at Olympic Stadium are ridiculously steep. Vertigo inducing if you're prone to it like I am.
  11. Subscribing to the old Bill James theory that keeping your players happy is worth more to your team than a statistically optimized lineup, I'd just put Tulo in the leadoff spot and leave everything else more or less the same as it's been in the past. If Bautista didn't take as much pride in hitting 3rd as he seems to than I would move him and Donaldson up to 1 & 2 and slot Tulo or Martin in the third spot ahead of Encarnacion. It doesn't matter.
  12. Well that's disappointing.
  13. That 2nd season was a gift from the gods. Gave the Jays a chance to get out of it with a q.o. something that seemed impossible after the first season. Even without the benefit of hindsight, it was pretty obvious that it was a perfect time to cut bait.
  14. Oh yeah... Forgot about him. I'd like to know what the Jays scout see in him. Presumably he's quiet enough behind the plate to be able to adapt to the knuckler. In the past, Nickeas has served the role of third knuckleball option (and thankfully was never needed).
  15. As bad of a hitter as he is and as much as he's disliked, Thole isn't exceptionally bad for a backup catcher. What compounds the issue is that the third catcher on the 40 is Jimenez with not a whole lot behind him either. Pentecost might not even be a catcher anymore and Jansen is only 20. Chung is a solid catch and throw guy and could be an emergency 40 man roster add. A veteran catcher at AAA would be very welcome.
  16. I hate to say this since I reached badly for him in LOD but he's not a relief ace anymore.
  17. I wasn't opposed to him catching Dickey especially over rostering three catchers but he struggled with it more than I expected. If you add someone like Kratz to the Bisons, I think the current setup is probably ideal. I know some will say that Martin's struggles when catching Dickey are just a small sample size aberration and that might very well be true but in the time it would take to normalize something like that, Dickey will be gone. The eye test says that it affected Martin and I'd rather err on the side of caution and assume it's a real thing. The Jays re-signing Thole to a Major League deal suggest that the braintrust sees it that way too.
  18. Practically this entire board was screaming at them to trade Navarro for a reliever or something but no...
  19. GD never contacted me, sorry.
  20. Is it better to have someone from outside the league?
  21. Biggest appeal of Kawasaki was that he could be had on a MiLB deal. Anyone similar in the system right now or will someone have to be signed?
  22. Spanky knocked up your mom?
  23. Davidi doesn't really do commentary. He's about as straight a reporter as there is on the Jays beat. Nothing wrong with that.
