Yeah it's one thing to have low K rates but this team is borderline historic in that regard.
It's the strength of the offense which can lead to some frustrating games like on Tuesday where we lost a 1-run game with 11 LOB.
But it can also lead to 8 run outbursts against an ace like Fried.
Tigers are scuffling. Lost 9 of 10 and have only scored 9 runs in 6 games since the ASB.
Here is my quick scouting report after 5 minutes on Fangraphs:
Rotation
Elite. Skubal is a stud followed by a very good 2-4.
The one fringe guy they have is Montero who we get to face.
Bullpen
Solid but unconventional.
Awful K rates but elite walk rates.
About average when it comes to homers.
Lineup
Top 10ish on the season but trending down.
Power is their strength.
Looks like we will dodge Kerry Carpenter who should return after the weekend.
Baserunning
Great baserunning metrics but dead last in steals on the year.
Defense
Ranks 14th in MLB by most metrics.
Dingler/Rogers duo are very good behind the dish.
Yeah I like him too.
Buying low on 2022 CY winner
2.5 years of control
Just had TJS so he's unlikely to blow out his elbow for the remainder of his deal
Good fit- never a huge K guy so our elite defense helps him more than most
75th percentile outcome he stabilizes the rotation and is a Bassitt replacement next year
25th percentile outcome he regains most of his lost form and is an SP2
Go get him.
Good points everyone. I agree with you guys on developing him but against the Spankees and other big games I think we can consider sitting him against lefties once in a while...for now.
Why would you disregard the splits? It's a SSS but he's so goddam bad against lefties that I think you at least have to consider benching him against LHP from time to time. Zero power, zero contact, etc.
But against a guy like Fried he'll be in.
Yanks had a more rested bullpen heading into last night's game but that has now reversed.
All of their top guys threw yesterday. Devin Williams and Tim Hill have thrown 3 out of the last 4 days. Weaver threw 30 pitches last night.
Everyone on the Jays is in pretty good shape except for Hoffman who will be unavailable.
Will be interesting to see the lineup tonight.
Fried is a lefty with reverse splits so we might see some lefties stick in the lineup. Aka Barger is probably in.
Might see Heineman too as Kirk has caught the last 3 and had his worst game of the season at the plate last night.
Fried has been a little shaky in his last 3 starts and he only pitched that one inning in the ASG since July 12th,
Hopefully that means he's rusty instead of rested.
