  1. I haven't chimed in yet but I hate this deal. The logjam in the infield has been cleared but almost to the point to where we are now counting on Tulo to play a big chunk of the year. I thought the return for Diaz would be higher. Thornton needs to be a really good reliever or a competent #5 to make this deal worth it. That doesn't seem like a tall order but for some no-name 25 year old yet to debut it's probably a tall order for him.
  2. It's pretty hard to look at big league players and then assign their success/failure onto an assistant coach so it's hardly worth doing. But since we are getting into it anyway, Borucki was a guy I was pleasantly surprised with and even a guy like Gaviglio showed he could be serviceable.
  3. What were the issues in the 2nd tenure? By all accounts the players all liked him I thought.
  4. Yeah I see no problems with Walker. We've had a lot of success with guys who aren't necessarily household names. Happ, Estrada, Sanchez are guys that come to mind.
  5. f*** me that's a double whammy. They lose their best writer and now the feminist running the joke that is Hardball Times is the boss at Fangraphs? Yikes
  6. No fan of Keith Law but this is kind of funny to see him directly call someone out like this.
  7. We didn't have CF options like we do now.
  8. Hoping we trade Pillar. There aren't many CFers in FA, netting a useful piece for him would be a wise move IMO. Wouldn't mind seeing Smoak traded as well.
  9. I think his best position is 2B. It's the one spot where his bat actually looks enticing even if he doesn't show a ton of improvement and from what little defensive metrics he has it appears to be his best position (for whatever that's worth). I'm not high on him at all though. Ideally he's a bench guy who finds 400 ABs sprinkled across 2B/3B/LF and maybe even some 1B with most of those coming from 2B and 3B where his bat actually plays some. He's not a bad guy to have around though given his versatility and the non-zero chance he has to turn into a regular. Seems like we have a whole team's worth of those guys right now and it will be fun to see who can play themselves into something that sticks long term.
  10. What the hell are we going to do with Tulo? Let's assume he can play 100 games next year. I highly doubt he can play SS anymore. If we traded Smoak could we see him play some 1B? Pretty bad bat for 1B. Nomar did that late in his career.
  11. Well what is she then? An 8, 8.5? I don't really care I think she's attractive is my point. Let's not get bogged down in the numbers.
  12. Lol says the guy who brags about all of his (alleged) sexcapades all the time.
  13. Part of the problem with Jackie Redmond is that she carries herself like she's an absolute bombshell. A quick look at her instagram and you'll see it's littered with selfies and pics of her scantily clad, etc. In other words, she thinks she's one of the hottest women on the planet. But she simply isn't hot enough to support that level of self-adulation. I do think she's attractive enough but if she'd tone down the outfits and carrying herself like she's the hottest babe on the planet it would help her stock. It's almost like she forces one to admit she's a total dime or that she's not hot when the truth is she's a 7.5 out of a 10. Does that make any sense?
  14. No but I could see him and McKinney platooning in LF which is probably where he belongs.
  15. Not a bad offer and in a vacuum I'd do it. But given our timeline, what our needs are and how much I anticipate we will have to spend and I think I pass on that. Take the 23 million and sprinkle it around on other needs.
  16. Yeah the two separate trade deadlines are dumb as hell. Get rid of the waiver trade deadline.
  17. It'd be a baseball broadcast version of the Odd Couple. The polite and lovable goof in Barry Davis constantly cringing on air and apologizing for the crass Zaun.
  18. I know you're joking but I think we match up well with them. I wonder if they'd be interested in a Stroman for Gray type of deal. They'd probably be interested in Smoak and Tepera too.
  19. They should fire Buck and Pat and hire Barry Davis and Gregg Zaun to replace them.
  20. I was going to say Buck Martinez but somehow he's only been a relatively good looking guy since he got old. EDIT: Also, I saw John Farrell get some 25 year old tail at the winter meetings like 8 years ago. She was a dime. I guess that doesn't mean he's good looking though.
  21. Taking a page out of Tercet's playbook in where one creates a strawman fanboy that doesn't exist on this board and then argues against that fanboy. This time it's Merryweather instead of Teoscar.
  22. Martin has definitely been worth it IMO. Tulo has been a dud. Morales is meh. Altogether it's a pretty bad collection of contracts at this point but the pain is going to start wearing off soon.
  23. Thanks. That would make it more palatable to me but we signed this guy to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training last year. Guys like him are a dime a dozen. I'd have to look at the 40 man but I'm not sure he did enough last year to warrant a guaranteed 40 man spot and nearly 2 million bucks. If we really wanted him back he might agree to something less than what he's going to get in arbitration anyway.
