Agreed. But I haven't seen him display any advanced statistical strategy so far so I'm not sure if it's a matter of simply improving or if he needs to learn what advanced statistics actually are.

I probably wouldn't even care tbh but the way he's managing the team so far is really rubbing me the wrong way so any mistake is amplified right now. It's just another example that shows that he doesn't know what he's doing and if you don't agree with that I think it's at least pretty safe to say at this point that he's not the sabremetric disciple he was sold as.

Except that makes no sense whatsoever. I think every news outlet in Canada has sent a rep to the game to follow him around the clubhouse and ask him questions. He's the most hyped prospect since A-Rod maybe? There won't be any added pressure from batting 2nd instead of 5th, the pressure is already there. And to be clear- I'm not directing this at you, it was probably Montoyo's thinking and you're just relaying it.

No he'll probably homer tonight and Montoyo will think he "likes hitting 5th because he's comfortable there" and will keep him there the rest of the year.

I would love to know the questions and answers from Atkins & Montoyo during Montoyo's interview process. Surely he wouldn't have been able to give sabremetric-style answers and then resort to this kind of ********. Which makes me question what the hell Atkins' hiring process was like. We fired one of the best and most loved managers in team history and replaced him with the Puerto Rican Ned Yost. GOTTA SPLIT DEM LEFTIES UP
