  1. Has anyone else heard this crap about Felipe Vazquez and his sister? What the hell is going on here?
  2. Lineup actually resembles a passable major league roster tonight.
  3. Wow that's interesting. Any reason why that could be?
  4. That's what I thought but no here really seemed to give much credence to it. It could be a factor though. I'd like to see him get some DH time too. Much prefer DH days each week to keep him fresh instead of straight days off. Rest days are coming and no one here is going to like it lol.
  5. Pretty good rule of thumb. Keep it simple. Down by 1 in the bottom of the 9th perhaps but I'm not even sure I'd do it in a tie game in the bottom of the 9th. You're probably not going to be able to use a pinch runner again should you need one (this assumes you didn't use a pinch runner earlier in the game for Smoak or Tellez which is probably better anyway), your best bat is out of the lineup, and tbh you're probably putting in a subpar defensive player as well. We obviously need to see more but my lying eyes tell me Vlad Jr.'s defense is better than a guy like Hanson's.
  6. Vlad is a tick below average. He's in the 39th percentile. Tellez is really slow, he's 13th percentile. Smoak, however, is one of the slowest in the league. 2nd percentile lol. So we can replace a slightly below average baserunner with an above average one but you can't pinch run for guys all game. You basically get to do it once. If the perfect situation calls for it then pinch running for Vlad is fine but with Tellez and Smoak on the team they are much more viable candidates to use our pinch runner on.
  7. Batting Galvis #2 and Vlad #5
  8. Arash Madani tweeted it. Looks like the lineup has been posted now though.
  9. Drury in RF tonight. Good move by Montoyo IMO.
  10. Probably chocolate covered as well.
  11. Is there any data on how short/small pitchers age? Should that be a concern going forward? I also am not a HUGE fan of his stuff. It's definitely viable but it's all kind of thrown at a similar speed and he doesn't really have a changeup. I'd be all for an extension but in order to break the bank I'd like to know how valid my above concerns are.
  12. I wonder if taking him out is also partially a maintenance thing. He'll probably DH to get breathers a fair amount and I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit once in a while. The MLB schedule is such a grind and I bet it can be hard on younger guys.
  13. Yeah I was thinking Pannone could get involved in that somehow too. Try and line it up so he's facing the other teams lefties.
  14. Any word on who is going to take over the 5th starter spot? Haven't needed one since Shoemaker went down.
  15. Yeah if the data doesn't include unsuccessful attempts than it's even worse than we all think. Seems like a pretty significant amount of the time a guy can't get the bunt down.
  16. Well Hurl's point is a good one in that it might not be a marginal upgrade, it might be a huge upgrade. Vlad Jr. isn't really THAT slow though, he's probably a tick below average and he can thank being 20 for that because when he's 30 he's going to be slow as s***. So Hanson would need to be pretty fast to make it worth it IMO. Hanson has been fast before in his career and he's got a good amount of "Bolts" in his career which is a stat used to track REALLY fast guys. But players lose speed, you wouldn't expect it to happen at age 26 but it does happen. If it's simply sss stuff then Montoyo's move isn't that bad.
  17. There are also scenarios where he could pinch run for Tellez, slowest guy on the team, and hasn't. Can't remember them all exactly but this game against Boston where we lost by a run is one example. Check out the top of the 9th where an extra run would have been huge. Not an exact duplicate of the circumstances though. http://www.espn.com/mlb/playbyplay?gameId=401074919&wsVar=us~mlb~gamepackage,desktop,en
  18. Why are you white knighting for Montoyo so much? Are you angling for a job for Shatkins? I didn't know Vlad's recorded sprint speed as it wasn't posted yet but I did know Hansen's was a tick below average at 26.8 this year. Just eyeballing it and it *seemed* like they were pretty close and it is. But I might have made a faulty assumption in thinking that sprint speed needed larger sample sizes to stabilize? Why would that be though and how many samples does it need? If that's true and Hanson's speed stabilizes back to where he used to be then I get your point even though I don't agree about about Vlad's AB being a total non-factor. The 5 spot (lol at Montoyo's cleanup rotation with Tellez) did come up again and a 130 wRC+ bat was replaced with an 80 wRC+ bat, so it was a factor, no matter how small of a factor it was.
  19. He'll be back for our playoff run in October.
  20. Hanson has exhibited below average sprint speed this year at 26.8 mph. I doubt Vladdy is much slower than that. I wonder if Montoyo knows that. Doesn't seem like it.
  21. I really wish we would have kept Pillar instead of having to see Brito log so much time. Our OF situation is a mess right now and I don't really see a way to fix it short term. What's Denard Span doing?
  22. Is there anywhere I can watch the post game interviews?
  23. Need to keep winning and it will go up.
