  1. One thing to keep in mind with Grichuk is that he's a 2nd half player. Every single year he's been in the big leagues, he's put up a much improved second half of the season. Usually it's by a pretty considerable margin too. He's replacement level through 55 games though and his career OBP is .297, both of which are a joke. So I'm not excusing him and that extension isn't exactly looking so hot right now but I do expect he'll improve by quite a bit as the season goes on.
  2. So he has a pulse. With only Jonathan Davis blocking him he'll probably come up some time this year. 0 confidence in him, of course. But he's more interesting than Davis even though he might not be any better.
  3. Yeah in that situation it wouldn't have applied. Just talking in general.
  4. The one thing that shocks me is that these guys don't try bunting. I get that it's not easy but if I'm a lefty and I'm staring at the shift I'm putting in some extra practice the next offseason to work on bunting. If you have so much power you simply want to hit it over their heads then fine but there are some guys that aren't that good of hitters that should be trying this.
  5. Drury's bat actually ran into the ball pretty well there but of course it's right at someone
  6. garbage call on Vlad Jr. Dude gets no respect.
  7. Watching Jonathan Davis play baseball does not spark joy
  8. The only thing that looks good is his ability to avoid home runs which keeps his ERA low. His strikeout numbers look kind of bad and his walk rates aren't anything special. He simply never gives up homers and that's with a decent but not great GB rate. If he's doing something special to avoid homers then he might be able to stick but I'm more inclined to think it's a fluke and that the homers will happen in the big leagues.
  9. Would be awesome but Shatkins fears Free Agency. Have either of them in their entire lives ever been involved in a major signing? I doubt it.
  10. He's fat. His build is a negative not a positive.
  11. I think you have to field trade offers for Stroman and Giles. At age 28, both of them kind of line up with our goal of competing in 2021 but only if we extend them. Therefore I think they have to be at least shopped and the timing is good because both are playing very well and have an extra year of control for the team that acquires them. If we nailed massive hauls for both that could really jumpstart this rebuild. The Padres look like a really good fit. I hope they are in contention at the deadline but there isn't a contender in the league who wouldn't improve by acquiring either one of them so they are great trade chips. Smoak and Galvis should be shopped as well but the returns would be pretty small I'd imagine. Sanchez too but he has no value whatsoever IMO. Either way Shatkins is going to have to actually be active in FA for once in their careers if this team is going to compete in 2021.
  12. Obvious plate discipline issues but he hit the ball pretty hard according to statcast last year. Maybe he can just be a low walk, decent average and power type of guy who can play a decent OF and a passable 2B. That'd be a good bench player.
  13. Paul Quantrill was probably just nervous.
  14. It's tough to sit here and say it's the hitting coach's fault because it's not but they are often the first to go. If this doesn't improve I dont think he'll last the season. As a team we are hitting like a decent hitting NL pitcher.
  15. That is pathetic. Ranking dead last in the entire league in several categories when the NL teams are giving ABs to pitchers.
  16. I really hate having Jonathan Davis on the team. Dude sucks.
  17. This offense is so brutal. Seems like we're on the verge of barely avoiding no-hitters on a nightly basis.
  18. Gotta love Drury and his .307 career OBP leading off. Hopefully Biggio batting 8th doesn't last long and he's the leadoff man before too long.
  19. Not really a big deal but I think worrying less about souvenirs and more about the game he was about to get shelled in would have been wise. https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/news/ryan-feierabend-lineup-card-blue-jays-souvenir
