He's always been really hellbent on not delaying service time when it's such a no-brainer to do so. I think he's gotten into it with me on Twitter before as well.
I actually met him at the winter meetings like 12 years ago when I tried to get a job in a front office. I went up to him and introduced myself and he gave me some resume advice for a couple of minutes before shooing me off which was nice of him (this was before I witnessed John Farrell engaging in an affair). So I had a positive exchange with him but his online persona is really unbearable.
So what can he do to adjust? Try to spray the ball to increase AVG, at the expense of power?
Seems like he actually tried that in 2021. His Pull % went from Gallo-esque numbers in '19 and '20 to almost 33/33/33 in '21. Should he just go back to trying to pull the ball a ton again and live with the results?
It seems like the new ball has killed Biggio as much as anything.
A good BB% with a high launch angle can thrive with a live ball, even with a mediocre batted ball profile. See Gleyber Torres who has a similar profile and he looked like a Hall of Famer. Deaden the ball and these guys take massive hits to their numbers.
You might actually be on to why they are playing Tapia tonight. Among all the hopeless options against Gerrit Cole, the contact hitter who might be able to BABIP his way to a couple of GB singles might be the best option.
I definitely hear what you are saying. Carter's final two years he got 100 RBI in each while putting up -2 WAR total. He also put up -2 WAR in his final season for the Padres alone lol. That's 3 years with 100 RBI and -4 WAR. Yikes.
But he gets a bad rap around here. He was a legitimately good player for us his first 3-4 years but was kept around long past his time for his age 35-37 years. It's not really his fault that the team kept employing him and batted him in the middle of the lineup year after year.
Thank you, I've been trying lately. I've been thinking about taking my talents to Twitter. Not sure how my style of trolling on here will fit in with Jays Twitter though.
Yeah I like that idea. We can get Biggios some ABs and use the DH to cycle some rest for the other regulars and can see what Tilapia and Zimmer have got. They can tinker with Collins a little bit in AAA and bring him up in a month if he shows them something.
If that happens it will be a fail. He could very well suck but my point was that 1 IP isn't a great barometer to judge but the GDT isn't the time or place for nuance. It's the wild west of hot takes in this thread so that was my mistake for trying to inject any sort of level-headedness and I mean that with sincerity. I need to go back to trolling.
It was definitely risky (as most FA signings are) but Matz got the same AAV and an extra year. Just kind of the going price for a back of the rotation 2 WAR starter. The statcast data on his pitch movement and velocity as well as his projections all look good and it seems like Atkins has been on him for a while which makes me think he can unlock an extra gear from him.
You're right, GM's aren't infallible but it seems like Atkins earned the benefit of the doubt for me. Time will tell! Cheers
Kikuchi is dealing! One ******** home run away from 3 scoreless innings. Had to get 4 strikes on Rizzo too.
He's gotten no help from the rest of the team outside of a couple of decent plays in the field.
