    Could be the case! An 11 man pen is hilarious though. And when May starts they’ll have to cut 3 relievers and add one bench player I think to get to 26 players and 13 pitchers.

    You are reading this wrong. The second tweet does not negate the first. It just means that the Jays told Bird he wasn't making the 40-man so he exercised his opt out rather than remaining in the org at AAA. He wasn't opting out if he made the 25-man team. In fact, I'm not even sure that he could opt out if he had made the team.

    I think the 13 pitchers rule isn't in effect in April.

    I’d probably just use Katoh for a month or two and when he flops just bring up Otto Lopez who could use a little more seasoning in AAA anyway. Collins Tilapia Espinal Seat warmer/Lopez

    Idk maybe. This team ran with Joe Panik for multiple seasons bc it’s hard to find decent bench players who are okay with that role. We could perhaps trade for somebody but signing someone better than those two could be difficult as weird as that sounds. No one will lineup to be 3rd in line after the starters and then Espinal.

    It could be Lukes but I’m not sure he brings anything to the table that Tilapia doesn’t unless he provides legit center field defense. Biggio can also play some outfield too so Lukes may not be necessary. It could be an infielder like Katoh.

    He quit before he was fired. Dude couldn’t even log one AB with the Rockies last year. He could make a major league roster but he’s not doing any better that.

    Greg Bird is so trash that he he packed his bags because he doesn’t think he can beat out Zack Collins for ABs. We won’t miss him.

    Making the a big league team in itself is probably a good enough role for someone who has been out of the bigs in recent years. Once we traded for Collins there was no need for another lefty DH.

    How many left handed DHs do we need on the bench? Only room for one of them IMO. Collins could have been optioned but the 40 man would have been full if we kept Bird and the other options for the final bench spot among the 40 man roster were crap. Now with Collins on the team we still have one spot left to add a guy like Katoh or Lukes to both the 40 man and and big league roster.

    Writing was on the wall when they traded for Collins. Didn’t need them both and Collins was already on the 40 man and Bird wasn’t. Now they can use that final 40-man spot on someone like Katoh or Lukes.

    Bird was just cut so I think Collins will make the team. He’s like a combination of what Reese McGuire (3rd C) and Greg Bird (lefty bat) were going to bring to the table and that will free up another spot for someone who can play the field like Gatoh or Lukes.

    Seems like he won't make the team which is probably ok. He can get ready in AAA and come up to fill the spot for our first injury.

    Is there any way to look up pitcher velocity for spring training games? Was trying to see how hard Patrick Corbin was throwing. He's had a good spring.

    Everyone is s***ing on Cito but 30 years ago I bet at least 95% of managers were doing the same crap he did. I'm sure he was a fine manager for the era.

    I think he's a solid backup C but he needs to go. Having a 3rd C on the roster negates the flexibility that Kirk provides as a capable DH and backup C. Pair Kirk's flexibility with Biggio and Espinal's and we could even run a 3-man bench for large stretches, especially if we added Otto Lopez.

    Does Clase's deal buyout any free agent years? Doesn't seem like it does.

    I have a strong feeling that Montoyo is going to screw up the lineup on a consistent basis by subbing Kirk out too often. Steamer projects Kirk to be our 2nd best hitter this year with a 129 wRC+. This guy could be special and he really needs to be in the lineup everyday either as the DH or as the backup C. Instead, I have a feeling that we'll see Greg Bird and Reese McGuire in the lineup way too often.

    My guess is we are going to go with a normal sized bench and use the early season extra roster spots on relievers.

    Remember in 2008 when old ass Cito Gaston took over for Gibbons? Cito went 51-37 after the team started 35-39. Cito could manage with the best of them. What a legend. Definitely deserving of the Jays Mt. Rushmore.

    The thing that mitigates Alomar only being with the team for 5 years is that he bounced around so much that the Jays ended up becoming his main team. He's the only guy in the HoF with a Jays cap and was a key cog in back-to-back WS titles. And let's face it, it's not like he's facing a ton of competition.

    This is true. The classic scenario where if he's mediocre he's gone but if he's good they'll keep him.
