  1. With regards to Rodon, I like a deal with a lower AAV but a longer term. That might seem a little odd for a guy with his injury history but it gives you more bites at the apple to realize value on the contract. 3-4 years with a vesting option and somewhere in the 15 mil a year range would make sense to me. If you could get him to remain moderately healthy (say he averages 120 IP a year on that deal) it could pay off big.
  2. It depends if we sign him or not. If we do, I'm expecting pretty darn good defense. If we don't sign him then I think he'll have a noodle arm.
  3. This Suzuki guy seems pretty decent to me. Zips projects him for a 118 OPS+ next year, for whatever that is worth. So that said, if the Jays sign him I'll be excited about it and will expect 20-30 homers next year with decent defense and OBP. If they don't, it's because he sucks and I think he'll struggle to hit .200.
  4. I know you meant 3B and I agree. But we wouldn't really even need Vlad to play much, if any, 3B even with Freeman in the fold. Vlad and Freeman could split time at 1B/DH and we could still pick up a 3B (Jose Ramirez, Chapman, Seager) and then platoon Biggio and Espinal at 2B. Plenty of ABs to go around. Freeman probably doesn't seem like the most natural fit, but sometimes it's about finding the right guys to take your money as much as it is finding the perfect fits. If he's interested in playing here we should make it happen.
  5. We are going to trade for Jose Ramirez!
  6. Nice! 5 years is very solid. After Semien got 7 I thought we’d have to add a year to all of the FA projections. But the Rangers are a trash org so they probably had to give an extra two years.
  7. Good velo, solid walk rate, and excellent spin rates. But this deal isn't exactly a cheap commitment for what he's been so far. So clearly the Jays see some things they like with him. Seeing as it's a huge need and the fact that Shatkins deserves the benefit of the doubt in that they probably *can* find an extra gear with him I think it's a good signing. But it could easily turn into a 3 year commitment for a guy with a 4+ ERA each season that can't be trusted with a lead.
  8. Yeah I agree they might know something about his health but the White Sox are also dumb as hell. They picked up Kimbrel's option with the expressed intent to trade him. Expressing their urgency to deal him has to take a bite out of their leverage as it is, but he's also an expensive reliever who is providing no surplus on that contract and since it's the offseason teams can sign other relievers at market rates anyway. It's almost like they are going to have to eat a decent bit of salary to get anything of value at which point the whole ordeal makes no sense. So I wouldn't be surprised if they just screwed the pooch on Rodon.
  9. I'd do that easy. Seems like a general rule of thumb is to take whatever contract you think seems fair, and then add one extra year. So it might be 4 for 60 for him and I'd do that as well; I'd even up the AAV some if necessary. That'd lock him up from age 29-32. Plan on an average of 120-135 innings per year with the hopes that you get an average of 150+ which could produce a lot of surplus value. I wouldn't even try to get him over 180 in any individual year. He's just not a workhorse type.
  10. So last year I pin pointed Semien as my FA pick to click, the Jays went and signed him, and he put up a Top 3 MVP season. If Shapiro/Atkins read this board (they probably do for my posts) then they need to look at Rodon. He'd be a great pickup for this team. He's a unique player that would benefit greatly from a smart organization like ours who could manage his innings effectively.
  11. Matz is solid and the AAV looks right but screw 4 years for a guy like that. He's not a ton better than the Cobb's/Kluber's/Kim's/Pineda's of the world who should command far less years on a similar AAV.
  12. Hey guys, sorry to do this but I'm swamped with work lately and I need to drop a league for this upcoming season. I can hang on until we find a replacement.
  13. Barnes is an easy non-tender. Maybe Thornton as well? Stripling wouldn't shock me although I'd probably bring him back as decent long men/starters can be hard to get in FA as they can usually find places where they can definitely be starters. The rest seem like easy decision to keep.
  14. -The two things I actually want are the universal DH and robo umps. Both are complete no-brainers to me and the arguments against both are horrible. -Bigger bases is really dumb. If they could actually prove it leads to less injuries then I would at least listen I guess. -Shift policing the way it's written above is stupid. I could be open to infielders having to be within the dirt I suppose but I am very against a rule which makes it so you have to have two on each side. Most other things I'm open to in order to entice casual fans: -I'd dump 7 inning double headers but they aren't the worst thing in the world. -I don't hate the runner on 2nd in extra innings. -If a pitch clock speeds up the game and casuals like that then go for it. -Limited pickoffs as a way to speed the game up is stupid but I actually like the idea if the goal is to increase steals. Close plays at the base are always exciting. -I like expanded playoffs. It helps deal with the endless amount of pointless games that 3/4 of the league seems to go through each and every year. I think it could help entice more teams to try and compete each year as well. I would probably punish the lower seeds and reward the higher seeds though to try and prevent .500 teams from winning the WS every year. Maybe make it so the first round is played entirely at the higher-seeded team's field or something.
  15. I'm very skeptical of the claim that slightly bigger bases lead to less collisions and injuries sustained around the bag. First, how can they possibly track that data reliably within just one season? Second, the collisions and injuries almost always occur on tag plays at which point the players have to get in close proximity to one another as the defender is literally trying to touch the other one with the ball in his hand. You could make the bases 6 feet by 6 feet but if the defender has to tag the runner it's not going to matter.
  16. If Montoyo gets suspended for a game that would be addition by subtraction.
  17. Oh my god you let Cash talk you into ejecting him?
  18. I wouldn't bother who knows what that could unleash.
  19. Yankees have a brutal remaining schedule too. 3 @ Boston, 3 @ Toronto and then the Rays for 3 in NY.
  20. So even if the Yanks win tonight we will still be tied with them in the loss column and our remaining schedule is more favorable. Jays: 4 @ the Twins, 3 vs Yanks, and 3 vs the Orioles at home Yanks: 3 @ Red Sox, 3 @ Jays, 3 vs the Rays at home The Red Sox also have an easy schedule (Yanks, Orioles & Nats) and will be 2 games up on us should they win tonight. We might want to cheer for a Red Sox sweep (sorry Grant!) when they play the Yankees. Today's game sucks but eeking out the W last night was huge. We are still in a good position to make the WC.
  21. I used to hate Gurriel's defense until Dickerson started a game in LF and there wasn't even an attempt to throw a runner out at home on a single to left with a runner on second. Gurriel's glove is a frying pan but he's not a complete statue and he has a cannon.
  22. s*** you're right he was just a finalist.
  23. Lol @ the Yanks and their 300 million dollar man Stanton trying to dunk on sorry ass Lindor (the 2021 version of Odor) and failing massively. I really hope they back in to the 2nd WC spot. The Wild Card game will be easy to win.
