  1. What did he get banned for?
  2. Well, you are both obsessed with the term "swing and miss" so I guess this makes sense.
  3. I read the fantasy and prospect articles, both of which are pretty good. Rarely read the main articles.
  4. What the hell is this analysis from Fangraphs on the Merrifield trade? "Reeks of irresponsibility"? That's a pretty bold accusation to assume that the Jays didn't do any homework on this simply because Ross Atkins declined to comment on a sensitive issue, one that Merrifield himself has already gotten plenty of heat for.
  5. I grew up in a smalltown but in my adult life I have always been a city slicker. Just way more to do and more fun to be had in the city. Now maybe this has something to do with my age but cities here aren't what they used to be. Homelessness is reaching insane levels. The riots a summer ago also sucked. Housing is crazy expensive. Suburbs or smalltowns are looking better than they used to.
  6. That's an interesting theory. It does seems like there might be some consensus to that but would be interested if it's true or not. Nick Frasso being 23 in A-Ball seems to either be overlooked completely by some, or at least accepted by others. I'm hating on him more than anyone but even I admit that he's a real prospect. Whereas a guy who hits well in A+ at age 23, not a perfect example but say someone like Ryan Noda, is discounted as a fringe prospect at best.
  7. Yeah same here. I love trading with the Dodgers tbh. They are one of the best orgs but because they are constantly churning out big league talent, they've got to move a lot of it so sometimes you can get a deal on a more established player for a riskier asset.
  8. Yeah it is interesting. Fans are basically stat scouting and throwing in some age vs. level analysis and very light scouting based on velocity, height/weight and what prospect sites tell us. Prospect sites use the stats, plus actual scouting and whatever insider knowledge they can get their hands on. Actual orgs are doing everything the prospect sites are x 100. But even further than that, when they trade the player they are also revealing the market value of the players involved in the transaction. We think we know the market value but we really don't until we see a player getting traded or signing a contract. Doesn't mean the teams are always making the right moves, but it does reveal what the players are worth in the marketplace.
  9. It's a bit of hyperbole but I've seen posters say that Atkins should get fired for this trade if they don't go on a run and others have said that Frasso is going to be a "f***ing superstar." A lot of people don't even know who Juenger is or that he had such a good 2021.
  10. Right! I only provided the info as is to compare 2021 Juenger (who barely made a squeak on this board) to 2022 Frasso (who is Alex Manoah 2.0).
  11. Player A is Haden Juenger in 2021. B is obviously Future Cy Young winner Nick Frasso. The point isn't to say that Juenger is the better prospect or anything like that. He's had a decent but not great 2022 and is now in AAA as a 21 year old which in itself is probably as impressive as anything Frasso has done to date. But rather the point is that a similar performance from a player pitching at the same level while 3 years younger netted minimal interest on this board and also registered just a blip on the prospect sites. But for some reason Nick Frasso does it this year and he's a god here. The prospect sites are giving him just slightly more attention than they gave Juenger which sounds about right to me, probably because like Deadpool mentioned he's actually starting games even if it's only 3+ innings right now. I don't even hate Nick Frasso, just pointing out that he's a risky 40+ prospect who was traded for a serviceable backend SP and people are really mad over it.
  12. That would be a small sample size if it was all big league innings. But instead it's all innings from a mid-level D-1 conference and A-Ball.
  13. You're on to something here!
  14. I should have added the amount of games. Player A is making 2 innings per appearance. Player B is just over 3. I also could have noted that Player A is now starting games after that performance in High A and that Player B is seen in the industry to carry both reliever and injury risk.
  15. You aren't wrong about those possibly being better options but this is my point. They must think Max Castillo is dogshit if these are the options they have. We are one injury away from Thornton bullpen games. 2 injuries away from Thornton Bullpen games followed by Casey Lawrence starts.
  16. Based on their age and High-A Stats? Other Notes: Player A made almost 2 innings per appearance. Player B is just over 3. Player A is now starting games and Player B is seen in the industry to carry both reliever and injury risk.
  17. Bullpen starts? 20 year old Tiedemann? Yikes...
  18. I bet Merrifield gets plenty of time at 2B. Espinal isn't anything special and has been playing pretty poorly for a while. Also, since the bench is stacked with lefties, Tapia and Biggio sometimes play more against lefties than they should and with Merrifield they won't ever have to.
  19. They must REALLY hate Max Castillo then if they think adding Merrifield is worth Lawrence/Hatch/etc. being next man up.
  20. So Stripling to the IL and White into the rotation. Who is next up for SP? Hatch?
  21. Mitch White: 27 years old and has a 3.58 ERA in 105 MLB Innings Nick Frasso: 24 years old and racking up Ks against a bunch of 19 year olds in A-Ball. Ranked outside our top 10 prospects by multiple organizations. BJMB: "OH MY GOD HOW DARE THEY TRADE FRASSO FOR MITCH WHITE!!!! FIRE ATKINS!!!!"
  22. Frasso was our number 13th ranked prospect according to Fangraphs updated list. What was Frasso's org ranking on the other updated lists? MLB Pipeline has him as the Dodgers 26th best prospect, what was he with us? Where did BA have him ranked? EDIT: Looks like he was our 13th best prospect on BA as well.
  23. He's a real prospect. We wouldn't have gotten Mitch White and Alex De Jesus (also a real prospect) for him if he wasn't. But he's got both injury and reliever risk and is old for his level (the non-prospects drag the average age up) so you have to take his stats in context. He also doesn't rank very high on any of the midseason prospect lists which take into account his dominating half season of A/A+ ball. It just seems like people think he's Tiedemann or Top 100 or something when he's not. He's very mid.
  24. s*** I just looked it up and Frasso is damn near 24. He's pitching against 19 year olds for crying out loud. If the guy tried dating girls that age he'd probably get arrested in some states but I'm supposed to be impressed that he struck out some kids whose balls just dropped? No thanks. Plus, I'm speaking from experience here. I'm 62 years young now but I didn't graduate high school until I was 21. Whenever I took the hill I would carve up those 16-18 year olds like they were a Christmas ham. It was easy, same thing applies with Frasso.
  25. Yeah true and after I posted I saw that this has already been discussed.
