Discord is more for short, instant messaging type information that is better for communicating with people in real time. Forums are a much more natural and versatile way of separating and discussing various topics. With forums, any time Jays news hits, let's say a medium sized trade, a new thread will pop up and if you log on two hours after the news hits, it will all be neat and tidy and you can participate in the entire discussion. The discussion will last for a couple of days (or as long as necessary) and when it reaches its natural conclusion it will fade away. If a trade happens on discord, there's a flurry of messages right away. Some of the comments might be good, but if you aren't on when that comment is posted, it's going to get buried pretty quickly. On top of it, all of it will get jumbled into the same channels as other news that hits. Just not an easy way to discuss baseball. The only way it would be better would be for GDTs really. Those are probably the worst aspect of this forum, it's filled with knee jerk reactions from casuals. Discord wouldn't really improve that aspect of it, but it would allow for better real time communication which would make a big difference for a quickly moving game.

Where are you looking at the historical prospect rankings? I seem to remember Josh Phelps was ranked really high at one point. Probably not Top 10 though.

That's because Ohtani is a FA after next year. Kirk isn't a FA until 2027. 1.5 seasons compared to 4.5 seasons.

Man, the 2006 Jays were a good team. It was the year after Riccardi made all of those big signings and trades. We were basically 1 league average starting pitcher away from the playoffs as Josh Towers and his 2-10 record tanked our season.

Smart move to start Kikuchi. Let's see if he looks like he can contribute down the stretch. If he looks ok, he and Castillo can probably hold down the fort the rest of the way through the season. (Might want to add a swingman anyway, but someone on the cheaper side.) If he looks like ass again, then we probably need to add a bon a fide #5.

This news doesn't seem great but if it's something that's been causing problems it could be a good thing that they have finally diagnosed it.

Moreno's power doesn't worry me. Young C's have a lot to worry about. Groshans' power on the other hand...it looks like he might have to play a solid SS in order to stick at this rate.

But the list is based solely upon the value each player provides while under team control. So impending FAs take huge hits and basically don't appear on the list at all. With Kirk, he is under team control through his age 27 season. Surely he can remain at C until then.

Well, with Jansen and Moreno around you'd have to consider moving Kirk for Ohtani straight up I would think. The lineup/Catching situation wouldn't take too much of a hit (lineup could be even better) and the rotation would add a frontline starter.

I think they are unfairly knocking Kirk for his defense though, which they admit drops him for around the 15th spot overall to 27th. His defense seems fine to me but it plays up because of elite pitch framing. I don't see his defense falling off a cliff by the time his team control runs out at age 27 either.

I think they need a depth starter even if they have some faith in Kikuchi. But with him and his fat contract on the team, they definitely could go for more of a swingman type than bon a fide starter.

I don't think a left handed bat is that necessary. For whoever we were to acquire, the barrier to crack the starting lineup is someone better than Gurriel/Hernandez in the OF or Kirk at DH. That's a damn good bat and would cost a lot. But if we aim lower and go for a bench bat, said bat needs to be better than Raimel Tapia or Cavan Biggio, both of whom are hitting better than league average. Sure, if a superstar like Soto is involved I'm all ears but otherwise we need to use our bullets on pitching.

How much of a pass does he get for the contact issues when he's only 20 years old in AA?

I cannot wait for the trade deadline. This team just needs to add a #5 SP, one high leverage reliever and another decent reliever and we will be locked and loaded for a playoff run.
