    I just started it and Gibbons let it be known that he interviewed for the Marlins job. Obviously he didn't get it but it would be great to see him back in the game.

    I'd do it. The trade tracker thinks it's fair as well. Not sure if the Cards would do it or not.

    The guy used to be considered a god around here after he turned Robbie Ray from a bum to the Cy Young winner. 1 year later along with Berrios, Kikuchi and another DUI and his stock has fallen pretty quickly.

    Yeah I'm starting to talk myself out of Bassitt as well. It'd be a total buy high on a guy entering his Age 34 season. Probably takes 3 years to get him, maybe even 4. Pass. If I'm the Jays I might limit myself to one or two year deals at which point hopefully Tiedemann and Zululeta are ready to step into the rotation. With that said, maybe Carrasco would be a good target. Ended the year poorly after an oblique injury but I did read an article on Fangraphs about him that he needs to ditch the sinker and go with a Four Seam-Slider-Change combo. Doesn't seem like there are many guys left where you can change the pitch mix and get massively different results a la Lance Lynn several years ago but Carrasco could squeeze out some extra value by dumping that 4th pitch. He only threw it 12% of the time but it was by far his worst pitch.

    I think Biggio could be a good trade chip to get a reliever. The Jays are obviously down on him and the teams seems to have him below Espinal and Merrifield. We've got Barger waiting in the wings in AAA. I like that he bats left-handed and would love to see him get more of a shot in a platoon role but the Jays must have their reasons for burying him on the depth chart. The shift ban is only going to help him so that could further entice teams. It would make a ton of sense for a non-contender with a hole at 2B to trade a decent 7th inning arm for him. Or a contender with a surplus of bullpen arms but with a weak bench and little AAA infield depth. Could maybe get an interesting AAA starting pitcher as well.

    What about Tyler Anderson? He's a year younger than Bassitt and has been every bit as good the past two years.

    Ok I looked them up. Two 45 FV prospects so nothing too special. Of the two, Diaz could throw a wrench into my plans but Lee screams backup unless his defense is elite but from the scouting reports I've seen it doesn't appear to be. I think two years of Jansen fits them pretty well still.

    Bassitt's AAV might be a touch too high for the Jays. Eovaldi, Tyler Anderson, and plenty of other options are out there though.

    I've been trying to get into direct contact with Atkins to tell him my Astros trade but I've heard through the grapevine that he is no longer pouring over my messages on BJMB because of my criticism of John Schneider. If anyone has his email address or phone number please PM me ASAP.     Matt Moore stinks. If I was 30 years younger I could get some base hits off of him easy.

    Yeah maybe in my Jansen-Urquidy trade scenario a guy like Biggio could be included to make it work.

    I don't think we need to do anything that big. -I think my Jansen to the Astros for Urquidy and a near elite RP is a good trade. Astros might make out on the WAR side of it but with capable replacements for Jansen's 2 years of control we get a lot better as well. -Then sign the best SP we can which will fit into the budget, could be anyone from Chris Bassitt on the high end to Kyle Gibson on the low end depending on FA prices. Kikuchi and White both prepare to be SPs entering ST but if all goes according to plan they move to the bullpen to start. -Then trade Richards, Biggio, anyone with 40 man concerns to try and grab that 4th OF. -Also approach Vlad and Bo on extensions. I think it's a good year to do this with Vlad especially. Then we can see how things are at the deadline. If we want to add a frontline starter or elite reliever we can look into it then.

    Based on the things I've been reading from insiders like Shi Davidi and Nicholson-Smith it's right around that 15-20M range. I think the biggest signing will be a 2 or 3 year deal on a solid starting pitcher.

    Mayza is solid. It's not his fault Schneider is a dumb ass. We could probably use a lefty better than him but he deserves to be in the pen. He also has options though so he could be the lefty Zach Pop as well.

    Yeah I agree, he's probably one of the last guys in right now. Anymore additions and he's out. We could probably move him for a rookie ball lotto ticket.

    Yeah he's nothing special but you could certainly do worse than him as one of the last guys in your pen for $1.5M.

    Hell yeah. Dude has a lower ERA the past two years than Edwin Diaz.

    Yeah it's easy to say we'll see some movement in the pen or that we need to add some guys and just drop everyone down a peg but there are 40 man roster considerations that will play heavy factor which was the point of my original post. If we add a 1B to Romano (that's a pretty damn good reliever) then we have to kick Merryweather or Richards to the curb for basically nothing. That's not a huge deal I guess but that's with Pop (who is pretty damn good in his own right) already being optioned. Further adding to the logjam is what we'll do with White and Kikuchi. I assume White, who is out of options, will be the long man in the pen but I wouldn't mind seeing what Kikuchi could do in the pen as well. His numbers as a reliever were electric and you can survive in the pen with a BB/9 around 5. As a starter that is much more difficult. But if he's in the pen then that's another one of the 8 bullpen spots being taken.
