    Yeah I think the tournament garnered a lot more interest than in previous years so hopefully that leads to more participation from American and Canadian pitchers. I also hope Ernie Whitt gets put to pasture.

    What makes sense about the infatuation with pro sports? As Jerry Seinfeld says, you're basically cheering for laundry. And better players doesn't mean better on field product. Plus, college sports in America has a much deeper history, longer rivalries (frankly college rivalries make pro rivalries look like they aren't even rivalries) and way more regional and academic ties. Take someone living in North Carolina, for example. Yeah they could watch "the best" and tune into the Hornets getting their asses beat on a nightly basis. Or you can cheer for the Tar Heels, a historically successful program with Hall of Famers like Michael Jordan among its alumni, huge games against big rivals, and a place where you and half your family going back 4 generations all went to school. That's probably an extreme example but it extends all across the country.

    I almost never listen to it. Especially in Denver where it REALLY sucks but I gave it a true when the indie station was playing some garbage. I regret it.

    It's almost comical how dismissive America is about the WBC. I tuned into sports radio today and they were cracking jokes the entire time by asking if it was being televised, etc. Having it compete with March Madness isn't ideal. But it's clear it's having a big impact internationally. I think baseball really needs to think long and hard about expanding it as well as figuring out a way to juice the Olympics some.

    Lopez aka Captain Canada is getting no respect. He was the star of Team Canada and deserves to play for Canada's other team. Lukes can go to AAA until KK gets hurt.

    In Gurriel's defense, he was a clown in the dugout but seemed to play like his hair was on fire when he was out in the field. He seemed to hustle plenty and was always diving in the field, charging the ball and firing it back in, hustling and diving head first on the base paths, etc. But outside of his OF arm he just wasn't very good at any of it.

    I don't remember many wall ball singles from him. I specifically remember it once when he was playing with a hurt foot. Agreed on his fielding.

    I swear you are retarded. StankyLeg JUST posted his "white jays" comment and you literally JUST replied to it. How on earth did you forget about that within the last 2 minutes? Also, all of you are using the word "barrio" and that implies latino/spanish speaking. Come on. Now, you and Jim can split hairs if you want and say something along the lines of "no, the barrio just meant getting rid of the goofball latino players, we could have still added serious latino players." But then you both go ahead and assume Teoscar is a goofball without any evidence other than the fact that he's Latino. lol

    How can you disconnect the two? If the goal is to break up a latino clique how could you do so other than by subtracting latinos players and adding white players? I guarantee you Ross Atkins was way more worried about his outfield defense and adding some left handed bats than he was what language the players speak.

    Lol you guys are so DUMN. Gurriel was a class clown, no doubt about it. But what did Teoscar ever do other than the fact that he spoke Spanish? Seemed like he was the butt of a lot of jokes because he was more serious than anything else. Dude also hit two jacks in an elimination game so not sure how he was the problem. Dimanno doesn't even report anything new other than what we've observed. Bichette adds some color to it but the jacket got stale and was likely getting dumped one way or the other anyway. And getting rid of two Spanish speaking players for two American players is 1) a SSS that most definitely could be "happenstance" and 2) could quite easily be explained by the fact that the new guys are better fits for the team due the fact they bat left handed and one of them is a GG defensive player. Defense and left handed bats were definitely something that needed improving. Get the hell out of here with this "white jays" BS.

    During the playoffs would be a great time to have it except for the fact that high stakes baseball is already being played and I'm not sure MLB would want it to compete with the playoffs. Some sort of minor league tournament would be cool too. I know Canada loves the World Junior hockey tournament and something similar for baseball in late fall could be good. Just axe the AFL and instead push a World Junior Tournament on the teams. Could even do it yearly.

    Columbia beats the US 14-13 tonight to push us into the next round. Then PR finishes off the DR so Vlad has no choice but to play for Canada in the next round. Fire Ernie Whitt and let an AI program make the pitching changes with Freeman and Vlad batting in the middle of the lineup. We aren't out of this yet boys.

    Time to dump Whitt and all the other dinosaurs and go heavy on advanced stats and scouting and then game the eligibility rules to build a good team. No more Aumonts or Albers and get as many American born players as it takes. Mexico does it and their team is stacked.

    He had it set up perfectly. Got through the first 5 innings using some of his worst pitchers including Aumont and they were only down 1 despite Mexico having Urquidy on the bump. Whitt had 4 interesting AAA guys along with Brash all ready to go. Yet he goes back to Albers for more and gets burnt. Pathetic.
