  1. The butthurt fanboys coming out of the woodwork when KK is still out WARing him on a per dollar basis pretty easily. Nice try.
  2. I never advised any such thing. I myself simply released Chris Sale for nothing in a dynasty recently.
  3. Oh god Bannister is on the D-Bags coaching staff?
  4. Yeah I know. My comment wasn't directed at you.
  5. De Jesus's stats in A+ for a 21 year old are more impressive than Frasso's as a 24 year old in AA. Not saying De Jesus is a better prospect, but before the season De Jesus was a 40FV and Frasso was a 40+. They aren't as far apart as the Frasso Fanboys think.
  6. Trade Bassitt at the deadline and call up Ryu
  7. Oh wow that was really well written. Good job I thought it was from BA. lol
  8. I saw that too. They don't really use the 26th man at all so if they see something in his profile that would allow him to be a part time DH while bringing the vetrin presents I'm all for it. If you look at his statcast profile he's still above average against both fastballs and sliders; he just sucks against all the offspeed stuff. In today's MLB where velocity and sliders are all the rage he might still be useful.
  9. Alright alright I declare a truce lol If the Jays did trade for Arenado I think at that point Rogers would probably have given them the green light to go above the luxury tax and they'd be making a bunch of splashy moves including a well paid 2B and DH. We'll see how it shakes out but assuming the Jays don't spend well beyond the luxury tax I think I'd probably prefer they spread the money around some. If it were up to me I'd like to see them use whatever money they have to extend Vlad and/or Bo. Try and patch up the holes they have relatively cheaply with trades and short term deals and carry on like Wild Card contenders. The farm system has bounced back since the awful first month or so and I want the team to be in perpetual contention rather than going all in for a couple of years. That's my two cents anyway.
  10. So was De Jesus not ranked but just a name to watch or something?
  11. He's better than Manoah
  12. Can't wait for Biggio and Corey Dickerson, the modern day Bash Brothers, to slash a combined .220/.270/.370 as our 2B and DH on our way to title town next year. This season is just the trailer, next year will be the movie!
  13. Thank you for the list bud. Can't wait for for a full season of Cavan Biggio at 2B and the corpse of Corey Dickerson as our DH. The World Series will be easy to make.
  14. I think you've just proven my point. Arenado eats up too much money and this lineup proves it. You're rearranging the furniture with Arenado and Pederson in and Chapman and KK out. But since you are already over the luxury tax you've downgraded 2B from Whit to Biggio/Espinal and DH from Belt to "anyone". Literally just throwing in 0 WAR guys bc you already spent too much money. Without putting a whole lot of thought into it I thought Arenado might be somewhat feasible before, but now I'm convinced that there isn't a chance in hell.
  15. Stoeten wrote a good article about next year a couple of months ago. https://stoeten.substack.com/p/what-happens-long-term-if-the-jays He has us on the hook for $198.25M in payroll commitments after he mades guesses on the arbitration guys. That would lead to the Jays having $38.75 million before the tax threshhold. He had us keeping Cimber, Biggio and Espinal at the time for a combined 10.5 Million but if we want to clear them off the books we could. Horwitz, Lopez, Schneider, etc. could provide similar production for the league min. So that would give us about $49 million to spend. That sounds like a lot but we will need a 3B, 2B, OF, DH and whatever we decide to do with the pitching.
  16. Yeah but the arb guys are going to eat into the Ryu and Chapman money and there are other holes to fill other than just 3B. If we traded for Arenado we'd be dumpster diving everywhere else and would lessen our chances of resigning Vlad or Bo. But it's not completely inconceivable. Arenado's deal seems to be the kind of contract Atkins likes gambling on. But aside from the financial considerations, Arenado's declining play is also worrisome. Walk rate is down, K rate is way up and his defensive metrics are dropping like a lead balloon. The Jays could probably get him for nothing if they wanted. He's a negative asset IMO.
  17. We are hitting the upper limits of what we can afford already and there will be a number of needs that need to be filled. Our best hitting prospect is a likely 3B and is about to be promoted to AAA. Arenado would be pretty sweet to have but it wouldn't be prudent I don't think.
  18. It's amazing at how good all these MLB first baseman are at this. I played some 1B in high school and college and it's hard as hell. But nearly every MLB 1B does it all the time.
  19. So there was a lot of talk about the Jays soft schedule entering the break so let's recap. The Jays didn't play that well. They dropped a winnable game against the A's to kick off the home stand. They were swept by the Red Sox. They were no-hit by the Tigers and it took a miracle finish to avoid dropping a series against them in the rubber match. If we played like that against a difficult schedule we would have gotten our asses handed to us. But guess what? Because that schedule was so soft we STILL went 9-6. At the start of it the Jays were on the outside looking in when it came to the WC and winning the AL East was a pipe dream. Now the Jays are tied for WC2 and Fangraphs gives us with a 9.2% chance to win the AL East. Lucky for us we still have one of the easiest schedules remaining.
  20. Also, there's another flawed thought process surrounding 1B defense and it revolves around the fact that the position is unique. No other position has to scoop throws consistently nor are they feeding the pitcher who is covering the bag. So because 1B is unique in that way, and because Ron Washington said so in Moneyball, there's this thought that 1B is difficult to play. The uniqueness can present challenges in that you can't just take a left fielder and throw him at 1B. It probably takes tons of reps to be good at scooping. But unique =/= difficult.
  21. 1B aren't as valuable because the position demands the least amount of physical tools. Scooping/picking throws in the dirt and feeding the pitcher covering the bag don't require a great arm or a ton of speed. Therefore the pool of MLB players who could possibly man the position is extremely high. Now that doesn't mean that just because you meet he minimum physical requirements (which nearly everyone who steps on an MLB diamond meets, save for a few) doesn't mean you'll be good at it. But you can at least try to play the position and odds are with enough reps you might even be able to do it adequately. Compare that to SS or CF. You WILL have to have a minimum amount of foot speed and arm strength to play those positions. If you don't have those physical tools, you will never be adequate at it no matter how many reps you take or how good you are at the technical aspects of the position, etc. If you want a real life example, use Christian Walker. He's seemingly the best defensive 1B by far and he's got 25th percentile sprint speed and 5th percentile arm strength. He simply cannot play anywhere else adequately while being THAT slow and with an arm THAT bad. Yet he's still the best defensive 1B in all of MLB.
  22. Blue Jays Draft Signings Grant Rogers-SIGNED Nate LaRue- SIGNED Please follow various Blue Jays twitter accounts for updates.
  23. Yeah Noda ranks up there among the best he's traded as well. But like Thomas, he milled around the org he was traded to for a while before being picked up for free from a 3rd org.
  24. Yep good call. He traded Thomas to the Cards when he was league average in A+ as a 21 year old for international pool money. Thomas kicked around the Cardinals org for a while before being traded at the deadline for 37 year old Jon Lester.
