    Jays are looking like dog s*** but: the Mariners just lost to the Angels again the Red Sox lost their 3rd consecutive series to drop to 2-7 on the year the Orioles were swept by the Pirates to drop to 3-6 that vaunted Yankee bullpen just coughed up 4 runs and counting in the 8th to give up the lead to the Marlins

    We ran a higher xBA against the White Sox in every single game this series but despite this they outhit us in every game anyway. That last Rockies game was a similar situation. So it's 4 games in a row where we are hitting the ball better than the other team but lost all 4 games. We aren't playing great and it's the Rox and ChiSox so we should be outhitting them by even more, but some of this is bad luck. You hate to drop these winnable games but I think the team should be fine and I expect we will give the Dodgers a good series.

    I'm not even that bothered by the games. Today was one of the flukiest losses you'll ever see and Wednesday wasn't much better. Still 4-3 and we will be favored the next two games. The injuries are what really sucks.

    Don't worry. That was just a BS, unlucky loss. Similar to our last game against the Rockies. .284 xBA for us and .230 for them. Somehow they got 11 hits and we only got 7. Not really that worried about a 4-3 start, even with the s***** teams we've played. The bats will come alive. What really sucks is losing Ponce and now Kirk. That's gonna hurt.

    If all goes well he should be able to return pretty soon, maybe three weeks? Could be less as sending him on a rehab assignment starts a 30-day clock so the Jays must think he's pretty close.

    I don't know but it probably isn't great? He's not a good defensive player. But at 3B he should suck a lot less than he did at SS. But the throw from SS is on average a longer throw and the baserunner has a greater chance to beat things out because the ball takes long to reach the fielder. It's just basic defensive spectrum stuff, SSs should be better when you move them down to other infield positions.

    The throw from the SS hole is longer than the throw from 3B. It's close, but SSs on average have stronger arms. His arm at SS was usually close to 40th percentile and it will play up at 3B, not down.

    I think the concerns over his 3B defense are overblown. There will be some hiccups early on but it's an easier position to play than SS. I don't expect him to be good over there, but if he's a barely playable SS then he should be a playable 3B.

    Yeah the Jays game being postponed is devastating. It's made worse by losing a series to the Rockies which now festers an extra day and by there being barely any other games being played today. MLB needs to mandate retractable roofs for every single stadium.

    Yeah I mean it could be a grade 1 sprain but the overall message is so negative that you can't help but think that it'll be a full tear

    I feel like it should be pretty good. Fangraphs ranked us as the 12th best bullpen entering the year and that seems about right. Hoffman projects well and should be about a Top 10ish Closer. Full season of Varland to go with Tyler Rogers (with this infield defense) are two damn good setup men. Little's velo spike could be something Fisher, Nance and Fluharty all seem like very serviceable middle relievers I don't expect much out of Miles but he's worth a look and Chase Lee is good depth Yimi should make is debut before too long and each of our injured starters should help the bullpen when they are back. Max said he'd pitch some out of the pen and I'm sure we could see Lauer, Ponce, and Trey getting some innings there at times as well. By the time the deadline hits we will probably need to trade for a setup guy or maybe a Closer.

    I think they were supposed to but the team lobbied the league to move it to Friday.

    Sucks to lose Leo, but I get it. He’s added a lot of weight and may not be a plus defender at SS anymore. Not fat, just stockier now at 5'10", 215. His OBP is promising, but it relies a lot on getting beaned and his walk rate probably takes a dive without much power at the MLB level. It would be tough to option Lukes, who’s a solid player at the end of his prime, and DFA’ing Straw probably means losing him since he has five years of service time. The Power of Friendship wins. The team is high on Kasevich and he had a good spring, he might be the better option anyway. Leo doesn’t have a huge ceiling to me, and it’s possible no team claims him since everyone is making tough roster decisions right now. If the Jays need infield depth later, they could probably trade for someone similar without giving up much.

    It would be a good time to try out someone like Seabold. Give him a couple of appearances and if he sucks they can swap him out for Fisher or Yariel.

    Jason Martinez of Roster Resource was asked about Leo Jimenez making the OD roster and here is what he said: matty25 You have Leo Jimenez starting in AAA, but he’s out of options, meaning he’d have to clear waivers. Do the Jays really risk that? They could option Lukes instead, but that feels dirty given he was hitting 2nd in the World Series. Jason Martinez I guess we'll find out soon how much the Jays value Jimenez. Good chance he makes it thru waivers if he doesn't make the team. And, if not, the Jays can find similar players to stash in AAA for infield depth. Lukes was such an important part of the 2025 team. Would be insulting to send him back to AAA.

    Yeah that could definitely be the case. Kasevich's strong spring performance probably helps. And tbh, a lot of Jimenez's appeal was that he provided good SS defense. But watching him play I have a hard time believing that he would actually be any good there. Definitely looks more like a 3B/2B than SS.

    Yeah it seems like Leo Jimenez will make the team over Lukes as well. It's not really fair but Jimenez doesn't have options and Lukes does. The only way he makes it is if they don't think Jimenez brings much to the table so they don't care if they lose him and they like Lukes' vibes.
