  1. Will be interesting to see how the market for all these mid guys develops. The rich teams seem to be spending but there are a lot of small market and mid tier teams losing their regional TV deals which could prevent them from spending.
  2. Bo seems hellbent on testing FA and getting top dollar. I think a team friendly extension for Vlad could be doable. Show him the Olson deal and tell him that’s as high as he’s getting and he might consider it. But neither is a must have. We can find 4 WAR guys in FA for 150 mil.
  3. Put Bellinger in RF and Springer in LF. Then sign Josh Hader on top of it and let it rip.
  4. It’s official. Cody Bellinger is a Blue Jay.
  5. Dear god, imagine the amount of drugs and alcohol that were consumed on a winter weekend cabin retreat with Spanky.
  6. Yeah we almost signed the second coming of Babe Ruth. There was one team in front of us and we forced them into a Saudi Arabia-style overpay to get him. I'm disappointed as hell but I'm not really mad at anyone other than the American media who were liars and frauds through this whole ordeal and now that it's over they are being smug ****s about it (Heyman's latest being the prime example). But I don't blame Ohtani, the Dodgers, Atkins, Rogers, or anyone else. We gave it a good shot but in the end he seemed to prefer the Dodgers and the Dodgers were all in. Most of the top FAs and trade targets are still on the board so time to regroup and spend the money we have to improve the team.
  7. Knowing what we now know, yeah we kind of didn't have a chance. Heading into this everyone thought he would get 500-600M. Jays probably had a very competitive offer within the top end of that range. Maybe even a bit higher. We didn't know what the Dodgers would do. Maybe 615 mil would scare them off? It was certainly feasible and then when reporters started reporting that we actually did it seemed like it was a real possibility. But the Dodgers blew it out of the water with a 700M bid. But we didn't know they were going to do that until the very end.
  8. You can't possibly know this all because 1) you can't provide sources for it all and 2) even if you can the sourcing on this whole ordeal was so putridly bad that you shouldn't trust it anyway. We got outbid. Doesn't matter how, but we did.
  9. So could Rogers who has more money than the Dodgers'. They just choose not to spend it in the same way that they do.
  10. Journalistic standards generally require two sources independent of one another. If CAA did burn him (I’m not convinced of any speculation or reporting in this stuff anymore) he likely forewent that standard. Or it’s possible he was in on it and they will throw him some bones in the future. Burning the Jays can be forgiven. Who knows what happened. I don’t really believe anything including the narrative that CAA carefully planned all of this. Hopefully the Jays eventually spill the beans and Passan or Rosenthal write up what actually happened.
  11. Jays twitter is embarrassing as hell. Talking about booing Ohtani and things like that. We got outbid. Doesn't matter how it happened other than for discussion's sake. But booing Ohtani for taking 700M from the Dodgers is ridiculous.
  12. Wet blanket brigade is out in full force this morning I see
  13. If the Jays can’t get a top FA to bite they need to flex their financial muscle via trade. Jose Ramirez probably isn’t available. Luis Robert might not be either but the White Sox are clearly rebuilding. And if we really have all this money I think we could take on some bad contracts to help facilitate a deal. Reinsdorf is an all-time cheap ass and if they are going to suck why not cut over 40 mil off the books? Robert has a shitload of surplus value on his team friendly contract but if you take on Benitendi and Moncada (both of whom have negative value) you can lower the overall package to the point that Tiedeman alone makes the deal about even steven according to mlb trades values. Benitendi can be an overpriced 4th OF and Moncada can start at 3rd. And losing Tiedeman sucks but if you are acquiring a stud like Robert who is under plenty of team control it’s worth it.
  14. All the speculation about whether Ohtani used the Jays or not is immaterial. Bottom line is the Dodgers had the highest offer (or at least it’s easy to presume they did). And that’s where players usually sign. The Jays either had a big offer in or they didn’t and the Dodgers thought they did. We’ll probably never know for sure. But we didn’t have the biggest offer so we didn’t get him. To the extent we can throw blame around for what went down, I blame JP Moron-si, Hoornsta (or whatever is name is), Twisted Logic and his Reddit thread (he’s the Steve Bartman of Jays fan for playing a role in flubbing this), Robert the Shark Tank guy (traitor to Canada)and the universal DH.
  15. That’s hard to know without knowing who wanted Gausman and Springer. 20 years ago would also include this Riccardi signings such as Burnett and Ryan where we we got roasted for doleing out giant contracts to those two.
  16. If Robert Herjavec was knowingly in on the CAA plan to land Ohtani with the Dodgers then he should be jailed for treason.
  17. The problem is that the free agents suck this year. Yamamoto is good but he’s going to cost north of 200. Cohen loves the guy. Seems like another situation where we can offer him a shitload but they’ll outbid us. Bellinger might be a match but his batted ball profile is terrifying. I think we need to make a trade but we don’t have a ton of elite prospects. FO office has their work cut out for them considering the sentiment from last year and getting blue balled on Ohtani.
  18. Yeah I saw your explanation after I posted that makes sense.
  19. what I don’t get is how the hell do deferments lower the AAV for luxury tax purposes? What was the point of all these other teams signing guys to 13 year deals? Why not just do 10 with deferrals?
  20. Nah. The best player since Babe Ruth gave us a legit shot and it took an unfathomable offer from one of the league’s best franchises to stop him from signing here. I still like him and wish him well.
  21. Yeah with the way sports works they can just kick the can down the road. 10 years from now and it will likely be a new FO and even new ownership. The deferrals will be someone else’s problem.
  22. Can’t really blame the Jays FO, they made the Dodgers put in a massive offer.
  23. I blame Twisted Logic for all of the shenanigans yesterday which likely scared Ohtani off. The Steve Bartman of Blue Jays fans.
