Chill the f*** out? We prefer to say calm down. It is a little less aggressive. -

Jays 76-86: I saw it coming mother f***ers. Saw it coming all the way. Jays 96-66: Hell Yes. -
Savy Gibby could only fight Beeston for so long... He did a valiant effort. Friday June 6th.. Jays defeat St. Louis 3-1. Later that night Beeston on his Cell Phone to someone.... Beeston - "We only scored 3 runs tonight. Did you know the average team scores 4 runs a game? That's an actual stat." Other end - mumble.. mumble... incomprehensible Beeston - "No you listen. We weren't even average tonight. Not even average." Other end - mumble... sigh... incomprehensible Beeston- "I'm not hearing it. It's past time we got Cito to give the boys hitting tips again." Other end - silence... deep breath... incomprehensible Beeston- "I'm well aware it's only one game. But it's not the Blue Jay way to wait until a slump happens. Good management see's the storm coming and changes the weather." Other end - losing patience... incomprehensible.... Beeston- "They can to change the weather,.. They use crop dusters to spray nanoparticles in the sky... I saw it on TV the other night. Anyway enough of this. Tell the boys to report early tomorrow for extra batting practice with Cito."

Add me to the spreadsheet.... I don't think bandwagonner is the right term. A bandwagoner would only be interested in good times. So they wouldn't post on the board through thick and thin. I would classify myself as a non-believer. I follow the team through think and thin. Just not quite as much through thin. -

gimme a break Gruber. This franchise has been a 20 year disaster... doesn't mean that it won't turn around. But some of us won't believe until we see it. I'm a little silly sometimes but this franchise is maddening. I am fully expecting a crazy crash to meaningless games by August... It might not be logical but it just seems that's the way it goes. If they win I'll be happier then anybody. I will praise Beeston as a genius, I will watch everyday in September. I will make sure all my iphone apps are up to date so I get real time updates on my phone if I am out. I guess that sums up my feelings on this franchise. I haven't bothered to update my iphone apps cause I don't care... I used to get a text every time the Jays scored but my app is out of date. Haven't felt the need to update it cause I kinda think this whole hot streak is an illusion. If the jays are trailing I go to bed early and don't bother to check the score until morning. That will all change if they are in it in Septemeber. Just cause I don't believe right now doesn't make me a degenerate... or maybe it does in your book?? -

2014 Jays remind me of 2003 Expos. There is good and there is evil. That year evil won. There were ups and downs like crazy. One moment it looked like they were world beaters (after game 50, 32-18, then a slump, then a crazy win streak, 39-26 around this time)... Then HUGE slump. Crash to .500. Doom. the end. Then some winning... This game was crazy. The series with the Phillies was crazy. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MON/MON200308260.shtml At that moment in time the Montreal Expos were tied for the wild card. And they were going to win it. To show the world the difference between good and evil. To teach Wall Street a lesson. To end the Iraq war. To make sure Bush didn't get a second term. Most of all they were going to defeat Jeffrey Loria and Bud Selig and save the franchise and show the world there was still good in humanity. But Wall Street and Bush and Loria and the powerful Bilderberg group couldn't afford to let the good people win one at that time. Thus a weekend in Florida put a stop to the dream. The lesson. Baseball is designed to screw you. The queen of england, who my friend swears to god is still in control somehow, probably created it to keep her north american minions under control. To make sure that the New York Yankees and the crooked art dealer won more then the little guy... to put the little guy in his place. To break your heart. Good wins... only rarely. Evil wins much more often. 2003 Expos won 83. 2014 Blue Jays are destined to win 82 on a roller coaster that goes no where. I warned you. Keep calm and direct your energy at more fruitful endevers. -
It is difficult to be calm during the collapse. It is 2009 all over again . Maybe we have to figure out what started the Cycle. Since 1993 it has been ground hog day. This is just 2009 all over again. If we don't stop the cycle before we know it we will be watching Baltimore and the Yanks fight it out for the pennant as we fight for pick 14. It really ended late April 1994. On Apr. 26 we were 13-7. Olerud looked like he would take another run at .400... Delgado rookie of the year no question. Then boom. It ended. It was over. 20 years in the wilderness began. What the hell happened?? I am open to suggestions. Yes Gillick left.. but not that day. It was at the end of 1994. Or maybe he did leave that day and they just didn't tell us until October. On Arpil 26th the founder of Karate died. Does this have something to do with Karate. http://www.historyorb.com/date/1994/april/26 April 22nd may actually have been the high point 11-5. Nixon died that day. Does this all have something to do with Nixon?? WTF?? What does Nixon have to do with the Jays?? Why would he curse us. Maybe he was innocent and the Jays will not win until that is proven... For the next generation we have to stop the curse. We are Bill Murray in Ground Hog day and have woken up to 2009. If we don't act now the collapse will be swift and furious. How did Bill Murray fix everything in Ground Hog day??

If they panic and decide to fire Sietzer hopefully they hire Maahfaace and not Cito or Murph.

Savy Gibby - Alex I know Amaro still likes Kyle Drabek. Trade him to the Phillies for a player to be named later to be chosen from a list of 7. Let Amaro choose the 7 any way he wants. AA - ?? Huhhhh... that's a weird request... Gibby must be up to something... I'll get my secretary to run the paperwork. Amaro - I can name any seven players I want and you choose only one?? Any seven I want and I get Drabek back?? Hell yes. 7 hours later -- Amaro (thinking) -- Dang... this is harder then I thought. I have to name 7 minor leaguers. Who's our A affiliate again?? f***-it I'll just add in Cole Hamels.

He's a 6 WAR career guy by both bbref and fangraphs systems. bbref has him at 0.8 this year... fangraphs at 0. There are errors in these systems... especially over low sample sizes. You know this obviously. The data says Happ is above replacement. But maybe not by a lot. Samardzija is projected to be 1.5 wins better over the rest of the year. Is it worth giving up Sanchez/Nay for 1.5 wins?
-
What do we have. Buerhle, Hutch, Stroman, Happ, Dickey. Is it even possible that there is a scenario where it makes sense to trade for Hamels to replace Dickey?? (assuming Dickey isn't injured). I don't think there is. If Dickey is 5th because everybody else is pitching awesome then there is no need for Hamels. Better off to just let Dickey work it out as number 5. If everybody is s*** and Dickey the shittiest then they will just replace Happ or a s***** Stroman/Hutch with Hamels and let Dickey work it out. The only scenario I could see is if Dickey went Romero... but even then he wouldn't be replaced until next years deadline.
-
He's sort of average so far. But guys like Happ are useful on a high run scoring team. He's pitching to about his career averages. So I think it could last. He's always had a high strike out rate so he could do a bit better.
-
It is up to Gibbons wether Dickey can go 7 and give up 5 runs. I have no doubt Dickey is capable of this. Was on track to do it last night. If the Jays score 14 some night I am sure Gibby will let Dickey go 7 and give up 4 or 5.

Bring on the White Sox, Bring on the BoSox, Bring on the Angels, the Rangers, and the Yankees too. We'll beat the Indians, We'll beat the Tigers, We'll beat the A's so bad it'll make, Billy Blue. What do you want? Let's play ball. If this song makes you too excited sing the calm part. It's a beautiful evening, fans. At the ballpark, when the game starts. Warm summer breezes, sun's going down. It's all dark at the ballpark. That's OK, it's a nightgame.

I agree with you. And another point if you follow the win probability I would think the Jays went from a 95% chance of winning to 40% in a couple of plays. So in that sense the reactions were absolutely rational. The biggest emotional reactions should follow the biggest changes in win probability. People aren't stupid. So I think the so-called over-reactions, aren't really over-reactions but actually rational. If you are going to freak out about any play it is the play that changes the win probability the most.

He looked horrible on a couple swings. I was saying f***-off at the TV... not that I hate him... just that he looked real bad on a couple swings. And Gose looked horrible trying to bunt. And a couple of bloopers almost ruined the game. Frustrating night until Pillar's blooper fell in... It's just the nature of fandom.
-
Well my friend, you were wrong about Goins... though I was as well. I was luke warm on him which thus far has turned out to be wildly optimistic. But you were right about Dickey and the importance of this night. That wise bastard Dickey was in the dugout from the moment he got pulled to the bitter end giving tips to Dusty and probably helpling Sietzer give hitting tips to the boys. Man of the night R.A. Dickey.

After 2 shut outs in a row we appear doomed. Nothing can stop the free-fall now. Except... maybe... perhaps... Help us, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're our only hope. Yes. It's him. I swear to god.
-
They would need some creativity... but perhaps they could keep Dickey and Buerhle on a regular schedule. Give Hutch and Stroman extra days off whenever possible. Then fill in with Happ, Redmond, Hendricks and Morrow (when he is back) depending on match ups.
-
CPH. In this one case you are being logical and I am not. If I truly believe their true talent level is 82-80, then the rest of the way the team should go .500 or so. What are they 38-26?? So 98 games left?? They will go 50-48. Meaning they win 88. So that is my new calm logical prediction. 88 wins.
-
Great optimism. Helps to have varied views on the calm thread. I myself am in full panic mode. You can tell my mood by the questions I start asking.... Can Brett Lawrie 2014 beat JPAs 2013 OPS? Can Hutch come back from double TJ? If Buerhle keeps his ERA under 3.00 will Dickey have to have a 6+ era to compensate? Will Beeston be the Bud Selig of team Presidents and still be on the job when he hits 80?? Will new technology like 3D printing of organs keep Bud and Beeston around and on the job indefinately?
-
0 runs over the weekend?? That makes me... uncalm. Is this the end?? General pattern the last 20 years has been that these occassional false peaks occur followed by a quick and complete crash to reality (see May 2009, June 2000 for fine examples). What we have seen thus far is nothing out of the ordinary 20 year pattern. In fact it fits the 20 year pattern and is a necessary part of it. Without these false peeks then some years would be so horrible that they would end the cycle (Beeston "retired", AA fired, Rogers exec reads Bill James etc.). Keep calm if the crash occurs. This could be it. Deal with it like a man. The road to 82 wins is full of fools gold Stay calm my friends through good times and bad.

You two have at it. Couldn't even join the boys at hooters the other day. Wife says she wouldn't mind. But you know how it is. Gotta behave. Had my time in the 90s. Saw the boys win a series or two along the way. I'd like to see the Jays win for the younger generation who didn't get the chance yet. Sounds like Outlaw was old enough for 92/93... not sure about Convo.
-
Why would you go back?? You will be like 40 and they are 17. It would be odd and you might get arrested.

He is a guy, who has a blog. Some think he is a sell out. When times are bad he write long articles trying to understand why AA does what he does, and then at the end he tells his readers not to be so negative because "baseball is hard". At this moment in time it looks like he was kind of right and all the insufferable sour pusses were wrong. What can I say... baseball is hard. Convo?? I do not know. Mac Outlaw? Some guy who swears and asks questions. Olerud363? Some loser with a fast computer who posts foolishness on this message board.
