North, the bully, destroyed Wilner thread
Olerud363 replied to Angrioter's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
?? A little trouble following this?? How do you regress platoon splits?? I understand ofcourse that large sample size is good. I've done projects trying to evaluate such and such. So I understand what regress means in a technical sense. But if you go to someone and say "you need to regress the data" they don't understand what the hell you are talking about and you will lose them. If you say, you only had 10, you need atleast 400. Then they will get it. His career stats vs. lefties are off the charts. At least if I am reading the fangraphs page correctly. .333 .369 .510?? So Wilner is right. He just should of used career stats instead of the small sample size. And the guy arguing with him should of said "Look at the career data!!". -
Dickey 9-10 3.90 (or so) Buerhle 10-7 3.19 The convergence continues. We have no idea exactly how it will play out. Buerhle could get hammerred and just like that they will have converged. Or they both could start pitching well, with Dickey totally on fire, and on a late September night they will converge at the exact moment the Jays clinch a play off spot (I like that scenario better). Anyway the shitballer convergence point will be marked by a small ceromony and a few words by Phil Niekro and Jamie Moyer. Both will start travelling to Buerhle/Dickey starts soon. There may be a special convergence bobble head, and perhaps a t-shirt. Stay tuned. (and keep calm).

You got 9 men, you got a diamond... The shitballers continue to converge. but in other news some lanky young guy shows up looking like the next Roy Doc Halladay. And you know what would be perfect?? If the real Roy Doc Halladay showed up with half an arm a'la Dave "Tomorrow I'll be Perfect" Stieb in 1998. I remember that well. Stieb tried to pitch us to the pennant but was to old and hadn't pitched in 5 years anyway so they called up Halladay. Halladay was about to throw a no hitter but they cranked one to right and Stieb caught it in the bullpen. It's obvious what needs to be done to complete the circle. Bring back Roy Doc Halladay. He is the man for the moment and will help Sanchez lead us to the pennant. That is the answer. Get him up here right now. Keep calm. Even when Halladay shows up don't lose it. Just say "glad to see you Mr. Halladay, your lockers over here, your roomie on the road is this kid Sanchez, pick up a glove and lets play ball!"

Dickey 7-8 3.86 Buerhle 10-6 2.64 The shitballers are indeed slowly converging. Hopefully the Jays keep in it so we can watch a pennant race. But if not I'll be watching for the shitballer convergence event. I believe it won't be until late September and they converge at 14-11 3.50. That would be OK. They'd both be trade chips. Keep calm.

This is only relevant to Canadians that lived in Ontario in the 90s. (I think the rest of the country was different). There was a grade 13 that was mainly geared towards preparing kids for University. Took pretty hard courses (called OACs). So a lot of us did an extra year of high school. It was actually pretty good preparation. I was in grade 13 in 93/94.

we are in the same boat. I just got 7 tickets to take a bunch of family to Yankees, Jays in late July. I'm just like -- please just tread water until then, even if it is fake I want them to be at least sort of in it.... it always makes it more fun. C'mon Jays -- fake it for a few weaks so Darthjon and I can enjoy our games... then fall completely apart if you have to.

That's why it is so important to keep calm. If you are 20 -- chances are you'll make it to 40 no matter what. But if you are almost 40 (like me) then calmness is the only way you will live long enough to see the Jays win. So keep calm. Calm people live longer and will see victory. Angry people will get health problems. The problem is we've had the "whiz kid" GM and it didn't work. So the next GM will be "old skool", it will take 10 years to get through that cycle. Then in 2024 a whiz kid will be chosen again, hopefully the right whiz kid, but it will take 10 years to rebuild from there. HINT. If you are 20 annd love baseball then work towards the 2024 Jays GM job. You may be the only one who can save us. And for gods sake keep calm. Angry people do not live long enough to see the Jays win, and angry people can't play politics well enough to get Rogers to give them the 2024 GM job.

The knuckler is knuckling again and Reyes is partying like it's 2006!!!! Get on board folks. This is our time. This our year. This is our team! So we had a bad 5 weeks. It was only 5 weeks. When George W. Bush was behind Kerry in the exit polls in 2004 did he give up? NO F'N WAY! He got his IT guys to double check the voting machines in Ohio. Hallejuhah, Jesus tap dancing Christ, I'm so excited about this team I think I just s*** myself. I gotta calm down.
-
Yeah... that is nice to see. When a company is having long term problems there comes a time when they have to look at the top.. not take it out on a mid level manager. In fact I would have no problem if they kept Gibbons for years. Just a "hey, it's not your fault, we'll build a young team, and give you a chance with it".
-
Agreed. I just don't know how they can market it. Beeston retires... then they fire AA?? Beeston retires. They hire a new President and make him hold on to AA for a year?? (Kind of like they made JP do with Buck).
-
That's a good point. Nature may take care of Beeston soon enough anyway. Although Selig somehow is still an mlb executive (top dog executive) at 80 or so... The thought of an 80 somthing year old Beeston in charge of the team in 2030 is frightening.
-
... they are still 3rd in runs... and they've gone through a 3 hitting coaches the last 3 years. It gets to the point where they get tired of firing coaches and need a bigger sacrifice.
-
I agree with you. But it is hard to see them "firing" Beeston. It will be like when Gaston "retired". A long drawn out process where Beeston gets to save face and leave his minions there for a while (as Murph got to hang around for 3 more years).
-
Beeston, Gibby or AA?? If you can fire one who do you fire? Explain why. You can only fire one but can move the remaining two. This opens up the logical option of firing Beeston and moving AA to President. Which is my choice. Fire Beeston. AA is president. Gibby is still manager get a new GM. You don't have to move anyone around. For example if you want to just fire AA and hire a new GM keeping Beeston as president that is fine. If you want to fire Gibbons and replace him with Beeston and get a new President that is an option too (that would be wildly entertaining, Beeston having to do the managers show each night).

If you've all ready accepted that it's over then you can calm the f*** down and relax. I went nuts when Reyes threw the ball away and ended the 9 game winning streak. I raged. Went bipolar for a while. Raged. I grieved. The last few weeks I've been suprisingly calm. If you haven't accepted it's over then I guess your rage is still to come. Good luck. Everybody has their own breaking point. 9 game winning streak - 90% believe (I still believed, some will never believe) Reyes throws the ball away - 80% believe (10% knew it was over then) Jays 14 games over .500 - 85% believe (5% came back on board, 5% knew Reyes throw was to much bad Karma) 3 game sweep by Yankees - 70% believe (people starting to get the feeling things are going bad). Lawire/Bautista injured - 55% believe... 4 game sweep by A's, lose division lead, lose EE - 30% believe (this one is a big drop off. To much happening) back to .500 - we'll lose another 10% down to 20% believe. 6 games back - 15% believe. Sox and Rays pass us we are in last place - 10% believe. The 10% left at this point will always believe I guess... just like 10% will never believe. Keep calm no matter how bad it gets.
-
?? This is silly. Some people didn't believe this time because the team was flawed. 30 something injury prone expensive guys with a staff led by two junk ballers. If they ever develop a good young team. People would believe. This team had to have everything go perfect. When they didn't people kinda new the team didn't have the depth and youth to survive any bad luck or serious injuries.
-
Glad to see you made it back. I think you were banned a few weeks ago?? Seems like everything went seriously uncalm for a few weeks. A bunch of new posters because of the winning streak... then as soon as they join we get a losing stretch which brings out the worst in everybody.
-
Watching yesterdays game I saw a babe wearing a "Calm down and play ball" shirt. We all know Sietzer and Lott have been dropping "calm down" references... my question is this.... Who is Olerud363? A bipolar guy with a fast computer. Who is Smedley? A banned guy with multiple accounts who likes cocaine and hoes. Who is JSFIP?? This is the million dollar question. A mystery man, rarely seen who has started a movement. Possibly a member of the Jays organization as there is heavy evidence that "calm down" is a theme that is taking hold in the clubhouse and in the merchandise department. Keep calm. Play ball!
-
CPH I am so glad you are back. I thought you were leaving until August?? The boys played good today. If in the end you are right then I will be happy with that... Not sure I believe but glad you do and hoping you get the opportunity to say "I told you so".

MLB 2014 Trade Deadline Discussion Thread
Olerud363 replied to TwistedLogic's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
Agreed 100%. All the old baseball guys are claiming Lawrie can play deep at second because of his amazing arm and range.* As far as I can tell he's turning double plays well. The skill set should play at short. * OK. I'm talking Buck and Tabler... but still... -
MLB 2014 Trade Deadline Discussion Thread

The footwork is just as tricky at second. If he has the arm for the third, and can handle the footwork at second, he should be able to handle short. -
Nobody has been able to keep calm at all lately. Injuries. Losing streaks. Comebacks. Reyes throws it into the dirt! It's over. Reyes throws it into the dirt! It's over again. Smedley apparently banned and reposting under new accounts and banned again. CPH -- who believe it or not, may in the end be the one with his head on straight... has apparently left us and isn't checking in again until late August. Olerud363 ranting incoherently again. Stroman who is so short that no one shorter has ever done anything is doing OK... so I think he is now the greatest short pitcher ever (atleast when compared to 5'3" guys instead of his peer group (5'8 to 5'11) ) Edwin suffers season ending concussion but plays anyway... Edwin I hope your head is on straight. If you you are having trouble keeping calm during all this... Watch the shitballers converge. Which one is Dickey?? Which one is Buerhle?? Which one has the pitbull?? I think the season depends on the shitballer convergence point. If they converge at a decent point say 15-10 3.5 then things might be OK... we will see keep calm

OK. Next Blue Jay President interview question. Billy Bookie a low level employee at Wendy's restaurant has the following monthy attendance record. April 11/20 days present for work May 14/21 days present for work June 17/20 days present for work July 7/22 days present for work Many unfortunate things have happened to Billy. In April He got bit by a dog one day. In May his girlfriend left him for his best friend. In June his attendance was good but his favourite baseball team collapsed making him very depressed so he missed 3 days. In July he got in a car accident. It was not serious but he had a neck injury that took longer then expected to heal. Billy seems to be recovered from his car accident and finished July with a strong week. What is Billy's expected attendance in August? a) about 60%. Simply the average of the other months. 90% as all the happenings were very rare and different and those kind of things could not possibly be expected to happen again.

f***. AA/BEESTON March 2015 - (poor Gibby allready sacraficed) "We were fine until Brett Lawrie and Bautista got injured on the same day. That was unfortunate. No team can lose 2 great players on the same day. That chances of that happening are so small as to be insignificant. We believe in the process. We believe in the scouts. We believe in ourselves. We believe in the Blue Jay way. We're positive people. The Beest is a positive guy. We've had great success. We're successful. We're winners. And we'll win. If not this year then next year. We're not going to let a 1 in 10000 fluke event stop us. 2 guys injured on the same day?? Bad luck. We'll be back." YOU f***ING MORONS!!! BUT YOU KNOW WHAT! IT'S OUR FAULT. WE TAKE THIS s*** YEAR AFTER. STOETEN, WILNER, BEESTON, AA, THEY'RE PRACTICALLY THE BILDERBURG GROUP. GODAMNIT I'M GOING NUTS HERE I REALLY AM. OK. Rant over. I think. If guys average 115 games a year that's what they'll play next year. Our front office doesn't understand that so they should resign before 9:00 a.m. this morning and apologize to us for making such a mess.
-
I think the two big injuries are more the issue. We'll have to wait to see how it plays out. Right now it just feels like someone is playing a cosmic joke on us. Cosmic Jokers - "Oh your still in first and have hope?? Let's take away 2 of your best players... we don't like to see you guys have hope."
