  1. A man who we have known since age 19 as the star player of a s***** team that is one of our top rivals comes off as a **** to us. What a surprise. Maybe with age comes wisdom.
  2. LOL Smoak's $8M option might have been an overpay. In a way this is good though. 1B market has completely collapsed and the Jays have a perfectly adequate one who seems to like it here. Offer him a 1 year $5M contract every year until he's toast. Spend the money elsewhere.
  3. Solid tweet, no other factors play into this:
  4. See: Trump, Donald for evidence to the contrary.
  5. If I called you the tercet of Jansen would you take that as a compliment or a rude insult?
  6. Jimbo looking to go all out. First one on the Jansen bandwagon and now he is looking to jump off while it's going 120 on the freeway....
  7. The one time I have to agree with Jim, even if it is facetious reasoning. This trade is dumb and poorly timed. It's freaking mid-November. If they REALLY wanted to trade Diaz because they thought he was overvalued, redundant or on the decline, his value was not going to tank in the next three months. Lots of time to extract the best value out of him between now and Spring Training. I doubt the Astros had an hourglass timer where Thornton was off the table once the sand ran out. As far as the 40-man excuse, which has been mostly debunked anyways, the Jays probably could have gotten something greater than Thornton + the worst 40-man guy on the roster/prospect they lost on rule 5 had they waited longer and been more diligent in trading Diaz. This is probably #2 mistake behind the Morales signing. Which actually isn't THAT bad anymore. Which shows overall they have been giving us little to complain about.
  8. I'll respond in the stock market thread.
  9. Is this listed on an exchange or planning to? Says it's a private company. The retail location business will probably be pretty hot to trade given the supply shortages that are happening right now so it would be a good IPO to trade once you can but I have no idea of long term economics of retailers. Think of it like this...if places like OCS are doing just fine and if OCS is the Amazon version for cannabis that makes High Tide the Sears model. Maybe a bit different because this is a consumption product so retailers might have more strength.
  10. I live bet Detroit +800 last night. I knew exactly what I was doing.
  11. Also, wasn't Jim one of the first people onto the Jansen bandwagon? Saying he was a darkhorse top prospect a couple of years ago. Surprised he wouldn't milk that for all it's worth, he must really think he is right more often than he is. Jim has the mentality of a stock trader. Buy low on Jansen. Sell "high" on Jansen. The "book value" (outdated prospect ranking) on Anderson is higher. Sell Pillar for whatever. With absolutely no regards to team need or knowledge of the market for these players. I have a particular sensitivity to the catcher spot, we all should, ever since what AA did to it turning it from a position of team strength and depth to Arencibia in eight weeks. It's finally looking good again after 5 years. Luckily the team had Martin but had to pay for him. This team could have 10+ WAR from minimum wage players in positions of scarcity - 3B, SS, 2B, C - by 2020. Basically CF is left and the rest of the diamond can be filled with 30+ year old mashers at a cheap cost because the market has completely disappeared for them. That leaves a ton of FA money for pitching. Let's not f*** this up.
  12. There's gotta be an equivalently bad contract for a SP out there where at least someone can eat innings on this team rather than juggle Tulo with the other IF options. How's Ian Kennedy doing?
  13. Diaz is the best trade target by far out of the ones listed. Good player with control and versatility. The other players are more or less just seat-fillers until the young guys are ready. They actually fit well with the team's longer term strategy as lesser players with less control. It's a shame because Diaz would be the perfect back up IF on a good team with no holes. But this team has a lack of pitching which takes priority over having a good backup IF in 2021.
  14. Uhh no. I'm not a slobbering mental case who has to blow my load at every woman who walks by. Is this really how other guys think? No wonder there needs to be a metoo movement. I do not find that woman particularly attractive. She is borderline between "maybe bang if she pursued me and it took me absolutely no effort" and "not bang at all".
  15. Faith Goldy is way hotter. I bring her up out of nowhere because both of them wear enough make-up and fake tans for a night out on Jarvis street, but Faith is about 10 inches taller with a better rack. My point being is that looks are subjective. I'm sure a lot of you 5'6 balding toolbags would prefer that midge Jackie Redmond and I don't hold it against you.
  16. I'm very proud of myself.
  17. We did not wait through a s***** 2017 and 2018 just for a couple years of Bryant.
  18. Not sure how I feel about this team so far despite the amazing start. If you looked at the schedule at the start of the year you wouldn't have called it easy by any means, but so far all the expected better teams the Raptors have beat have s*** the bed. Meanwhile the Bucks have made a few statements already, manhandling some good teams, Raptors included. The rest of November is looking pretty easy except one in Boston and the Warriors come in at the end of the month. This team should be entering December with no more than 3 losses.
  19. At least we know the feigned outrage of the social media world isn't confined to stupid SJW movements. In that way this is good news. I expect a green frog in Bill James' likeness to become a new meme soon.
  20. Mark Buehrle would have been considered to have top stuff when I first started watching baseball in 1989. Saying to replace today's players with other lesser players from today and this guy gets roasted. Say to replace them with players from the 1980's who have the same talent level as today's replacements and he's a traditionalist that will be fawned on by everyone. Say to replace today's players with Babe Ruth and Bill James will get his ******* licked for being a top notch traditionalist. Whereas if Babe Ruth was playing today he'd be at Rowdy Tellez level of talent, probably. I'm really just speaking out of my ass on that one and will let the stat nerds work to prove this narrative if they want.
  21. At least we don't lose our teams, and have s***** ones from the ones that are left like Seattle and San Diego. Or have that happen AND have to live vicariously through another city's teams 4,000 km away that happens be in the same country like Vancouver does. Sports fans in Toronto are so defeatist. It CAN get much worse.
  22. Please read full article and Twitter thread. It's totally worth it, I promise:
  23. Yes, plus the team very likely doesn't have a choice unless getting pitchers in return. I mean, trading Stroman away simply because of character flaws is dumb, and this is coming from someone who WANTS to see Stroman traded away because of his irritating character flaws.
  24. I don't find this to be a risk any more than having to hope that Ken Giles brings it in the 9th or else I'll have to keep away from the salty Houston trolls on Twitter for a few hours. I do dislike its use for the reasons I already stated though.
  25. I hope they don't extend the 25-man roster, or just more of this stuff is going to happen. If you want to play around like this to get an edge, then you're going to have to do it with the constraint of a 25-man roster (and blow through options of your palatable MiLB players). I assume they have some stats guys that will find the sweet balance between using an opener or not. Yes, I know, a run in the 1st is the same as a run in the 9th, but it really isn't. The logic behind saving your best BP arms for last makes sense. If you give up a run in the first, you have 27 or 24 outs to work with to retaliate. If you give up a run in the 9th you have 3 or 0 outs to work with. Using your best BP arms in the first inning every game is a really dumb idea. There's a balance between that and Showalter's Ubaldo over Britton stance.
