  1. And out of those five, everyone except Vlad could pass as Latinos from Uruguay. And Vlad comes from money. Whitest team since the pre-Jim Rice Red Sox.
  2. Hmm interesting. That would tie him with Dave Collins as the team's single season SB leader. I wonder if any other team has two white guys battling it out for the franchise stolen base record? Not only was Dave Collins a white guy, he was a white guy with glasses. Imagine Tom Henke running the basepaths alongside Vince Coleman and Willie Wilson. That was the Jays in the mid-80's.
  3. Relax man, posters are also in spring training mode, trying to get into their groove for the season. If you don't practice, you end up being like Gruber, s***-raving across all the game day threads.
  4. I'm optimistic for humanity because the only people who can afford to have and are having kids under the age of 30 are rich athletes now. DNA pool is going to get better in a hundred years or so.
  5. Have you ever been to a game in 1957? Because in 1957 the average game was 2 hours 33 minutes long. And it was more or less like that for the 30 years that followed and about a half hour shorter for the 30 years prior. Were the players ever rushed back then? Did they not have time to strategize in a relaxed atmosphere? The pitch clock is merely returning the game to the length of time and pace of play to where it was between 1885 to 1985. As a traditionalist, you should like that.
  6. At what point in time have you shown anyone rushing? You make it sound like batters have to run up to the plate and barely have time to get set.
  7. I share the sentiment that I don't want to see a game end on a stupid technicality, even if the pitch clock is 90% positives right now. Instead of extensions and similar ideas, maybe something in the vein of fouls to give like in the NBA. For the first 7 innings, the violation comes with a penalty. After the 7th, you have three "violations to give". If your team messed up four times, you kind of deserve to lose the game on a technicality.
  8. As long as I don't have to hear "Gee, I hope the Jays suck" or "I hope those moves Atkins did don't work out" just to get him fired. Similar to the comments we saw the last few years with Montoyo. I'd much prefer the Jays win 100+ games, win the World Series and Atkins get signed to a 10 year extension than any other scenario this year.
  9. If you don't like being a bottom cog in the capitalist system, stop taking it up the ass and do something about it. I'm going on...100 months of "paternity leave" now and I don't even have a kid. Nothing worse than a worker bee complaining about their predicament but they are too much of a wuss to quit their job and hustle as an entrepreneur. Krik, an out of shape nobody given like a $5,000 signing bonus to play baseball busted his ass, became good and now has earned the privilege of his employer sucking up to him. He absolutely deserves it over the typical worker bee.
  10. Sell it to the Feds to house some border crossers. If they can last a real Canadian winter with no complaints, they deserve to be here. Conversely, if they leave, maybe whatever they were running away from wasn't too bad.
  11. Referring to the -30 comments.
  12. That's why your houses cost only $800,000 instead of $1.5 million.
  13. I find it funny that people are surprised spring games start "already". Next week is March. What did you expect? Maybe it's because Southern Ontario has had three months of November that people's seasonal clocks aren't set right.
  14. Playing sandlot with your childhood buddies is a lot more fun than training in an official capacity with people you don't know and who are trying to tell you a bunch of things. It comes down to personality. Some players are going to want to train seriously to improve their game during the off-season, others view it as fun or downtime. All a team can do is assess this behaviour and determine if they are willing to make a long-term commitment to the player in question. Jays can't really force anyone to do anything and can't be faulted for not doing whatever the Dodgers are doing.
  15. I get that. I feel the same way with boxing too, left is pretty close to right. Especially with uppercut. It could have to do with the elbow not extending too far behind the shoulder. When I flick something as opposed to a full throw, both arms are pretty close in performance. But the full throwing motion is where things go off. To Laika's point about finesse, my left arm can get reasonably close in distance to my right but the release point will be all messed up and it leaves my arm at some crazy bad angle.
  16. Nerdy 15 year olds might say Tampa but I think the casual and older baseball fan will say Arizona. Arizona actually won led by HOF and near-HOF players. Tampa...just exists. In Toronto we are biased because of the division rivalry and the struggles against the team but I don't think a lot of baseball fans think about or respect what the Rays have accomplished over the last 15 or so years. And honestly for good reason. There will also probably be people like me who hold the organization in contempt for finding constant loopholes in the system or bucking tradition that have brought changes to the game I don't like.
  17. After over 150 years of baseball, kind of surprised that this switch pitcher thing is just now getting traction. Babe Ruth was a natural righty but decided to do everything baseball related lefty. Now imagine a switch hitting, switch pitching outfielder like Ruth. He'd have just made a mockery of the game. I get hitting only from the opposite side because that kind of makes sense in baseball. Plus it's sort of like a slapshot and a lot of people shoot from their weak side in hockey. But I really don't get only throwing from your weak side, barring an injury. If your weak hand is strong enough to pitch competitively in baseball, you should be even better from your strong side and might as well use both.
  18. The Score offering +400 boosted odds on the Raptors to end up wit 43 or more wins. The team has to go 15-8 the rest of the way to make it. Wild card is three against the Wizards which aren't the auto-wins they once were but the rest of the schedule seems pretty winnable with only a couple games against Denver, Philly and ending the season with the Celtics and Bucks that hopefully won't give a s*** by the time those games roll around. Worth a shot.
  19. LOL @ Jim calling out someone else's supposed BS.
  20. Curious as to why people auto write off Pearson as a starter when very little of his injuries are actually related to arm longevity. Definitely at least two years behind development but I don't see anything that precludes him from a Dustin McGowan 2007 season in two years.
  21. Where do you work? Maybe I'll get a job there and not shower for a month and see how you like it. Inhaling body odor isn't "harmful". Merely annoying. So why should I be concerned that my selfish and disrespectful behaviour is impacting you in a negative way? Oh, and there is this on the CDC website, which took less than a minute to find: https://www.cdc.gov/marijuana/health-effects/second-hand-smoke.html The pro-cannabis cult is worse than the anti-vaxxer cult. They use "science" and "research" to support their cause but ignore the many, many negative impacts of cannabis. Far worse than seeing some dipshit on Sportsnet saying that the Jays have +120 odds to win the game down 4-3 in the 5th.
  22. Another member of the clueless, self-centered woke crowd, where "protecting the vulnerable" is defined only in their narrow view of who is considered vulnerable. Someone with sensory issues = f*** that guy, hope he dies. Someone prone to gambling addiction = stop the world, we need to protect that person. Seriously, GFY you ignorant buffoon. You think kids smelling weed at the beach is any less harmful or less of an advertisement for a vice than seeing Gretzky shilling gambling ads?
  23. Drew Hutchison will be the #5 starter. And he will go 13-5 with a 6 ERA again. And people will complain that he is hot garbage. And I will be chiming in saying who cares because that implies the Jays won 13 of the 18 games from their #5 starter with his no-decision starts being toss ups. It will be glorious.
  24. Gambling IS f***ing cool. I hope every 15 year old turns into Al Capone from watching those ads. If I have to go to the beach and smell the stench of pot wafting from some deadhead and can't f***ing punch that guy out for being an annoying s***, then you are just going to have to deal with Gretzky and your other former heroes shilling for a gambling company.
  25. Well the breakdown in logic comparing WAR here is that you are taking the contribution of four players versus just two. Those two extra roster spots would likely produce more than 0 WAR. That being said I still like the Jays offseason and I don't even know why this was brought up, as if the Jays were in serious contention to sign Rodon or that I had a remote interest in seeing the Jays sign him to the terms he got.
