  1. I hope your right man. Up until Dec 1 things were really fun. Lots of early signings and news. Once the lockout hit my mind just turned baseball off. I've hardly paid attention or given thought to roster construction free agents etc. If this 2 group of clowns somehow close a deal we have spring training starting ASAP and ton of players to sign ASAP. It would be fun few days.
  2. Bruce Meyer is the death of all good things. They counter a proposal by asking for more arbitration bonus pool money than they asked for before. If you go and try and buy a house and offer 950K and it gets turned down, you're probably going to get turned if you lower your offer and ask for 925 the following week. Now they're saying no expanded playoffs if we don't play a full season. Let's reject more revenue that will ultimately allow for more money to be paid to players and then this childish release. Both sides need to quit the public PR ********. We're sick of both sides. Sit in a room, act like adults and don't come out until you have a deal.
  3. You'd also have 172 times your money if you had invested in the S&P 5 years earlier at the beginning of 1976. It all depends the dates you pick and choose. The purchase price of the Dodgers in 2012 gets crushed by the S&P 500.
  4. Fair point. I think June is the optimistic start date. A lost season is entirely possible.
  5. 25 mil per team. That won't even cover the luxury tax bill for the Mets.
  6. Selecting a post pandemic payroll year. The average payroll is 114 mil for 2022 with several big named free agents left to sign. It will push up to 125ish. Sports franchises are like Art to the rich. Their value isn't 100% correlated to the business and profitability. Those 2 values are highly subjective values as well. The industry which relies heavily on TV revenues is facing TV revenues that will come under pressure in the world of streaming. The unprecedented growth of TV revenue growth over the last 15 years will not be replicated in the future. I can't see this getting resolved anytime soon. June baseball at the earliest. An entire season lost is not an entirely unrealistic proposition for me.
  7. The free agency wasn't 29.5 for all players. It was 6 years of control or 29.5, whichever comes first.
  8. I hope he does take his conditioning more seriously, but in 2020 guys pitched 70 innings. Ryu wasn't the only pitcher who ran out of gas in 2021.
  9. You obviously don't sign the player if you don't think he has upside to be better than Grichuk. You trade Grichuk once the salary cap floor comes in place. Suddenly Grichuk is a hot commodity for teams that need to spend money, but still want to tank. You have 4 outfielders to rotate through the DH spot knowing there will be injuries. His play dictates how many ABs he gets.
  10. The fact that the owners offered a Salary floor and fee agency at 29.5 and we don't have a deal is concerning. Catching the late bloomers like Josh Donaldson and making them free agents earlier and forcing cheap teams to spend more seems like 2 massive wins. You'd think they could have negotiated around those 2 sticking points and got everything else done.
  11. Didn't gausman just take less money to play in a cold climate with high taxes?
  12. Has Rodon signed?
  13. We were a team that was expected to win 99 games last year. Luck, bad bullpen and poor management decisions all play into underperformance with Luck being the major factor! Just a little luck and a lessor team and we could win more games last year. Full seasons of Manoah, Berrios, Springer and we are arguably just as good. We just need a little luck! Still let's sign or trade for another piece or two and create a super team!
  14. Carlos Correa could be a bad, bad deal for a team. He's had trouble staying healthy. 10 years on Correa is a scary deal.
  15. Carlos Correa could be a bad, bad deal for a team. He's had trouble staying healthy. 10 years on Correa is a scary deal.
  16. I really like Paxton and I get the structure of the contract has a nice potential payoff, but sale only pitched 40 something innings last year. 10 mil seems like a lot for 40 innings considering he got 8.5 last year with the expectation he'd pitch a full season.
  17. Steamer has him at .308 next year though. A 91 wRC+ projection when you bring the defense he brings. There are worse things than having someone like that at the bottom of your lineup. He also has elite contact skills. He just has no power. Having a guy who gets on base and doesn't strike out at the bottom of your lineup, especially against elite pitching isn't the worst thing. I know I'm in the minority, but I think come May 1 Moreno will be playing 3rd. Biggio at 2nd and espinal spelling both and starting the year at 3rd with Smith, Groshans and Otto Lopez providing depth. I'd rather put the rest of the money we had into pitching than signing a Kyle seager for 12 mil a year for 2 years.
  18. Scott Mitchell tweeted a couple weeks ago that Moreno playing 3rd was a very realistic possibility. Kirk made strides defensively last year. He has a pretty good throwing motion, but was saddled with Ray who can't hold on runners. He has soft hands behind the plate and his blocking improved. Kirk's bat is legit. He has the ability to be a slightly above average defensive catcher imo. He just has to lose a bit more weight.
  19. Impossible to tell or certainly to tell to what degree. I can't s*** all over Montoyo without acknowledging guys likely enjoy playing for him, and he probably keeps things positive in tough times. Enough to overcome some of the suspect decision making? Probably not, but he's not going anywhere. He's certainly not devoid of positives. Please, no more loading the bases with 2 free passes in a tie game when you still have an at bat in the bottom of the 10th though!
  20. getting better?
  21. Just say NO to Seager! I'd be down with Conforto, but can we trade Grichuk. Hopefully there will be a salary floor in the new agreement. There will be a few teams that want to lose, but need to spend money. Grichuk would seem like a perfect fit!
  22. Degrom has an opt out after this season. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess he's opting out...lol.
  23. This pleases me...lol. The Mets spending ridiculous money.
  24. Poor Texas. No one will take their money. We have no state tax either!....um thanks, really I appreciate it, but no thanks.
