  1. oliver may be at the end of his rope...he is old as dirt and now with injuries should not be counted on as much...thank goodness loup and cecil have stepped up.
  2. If you're gonig to use statistics soley to make your arguement, you need to go to university and take a statistics class so you understand statistical relevance and magin of error. Delabar has a challenge fastball, and when he get's up against the wall he doesn't have to pick the corners as much with the velocity he has and the good slider he has to go with it. He strikes out more than a batter an inning and he can get himself out of trouble with his live arm. When you run into a situation late in games and you have runners on 2nd and 3rd with none out you need to have a guy with swing and miss stuff to come in to clean up those innings, and I'm glad we have delabar's arm in our stable even if it does fail us from time to time.
  3. I would love to see negrych up..and thole....shi tweeted mcgowan isn't eligilbe to come off dl till thursday.
  4. The offense has scored the 3rd most runs in all of baseball in the month of may....This offense is going to be scary when they get Reyes back. The team just desperately needs some pitching...can johnson be a saviour....come back and pitch well. Can Buehrle continue his form of late? Can dickey turn it around? If those 3 could set the tone and be solid, with this offense the team wins more games than they lose moving forward...
  5. great example of the polish to lindy right now vs rasmus. Against the best closer in the game lindy somehow lays off a tough slider on a 1-2 pitch and takes a walk...colby swung at would have been ball 4 in a 3-2 count and put runners on 1st and 2nd with none out...I'm not hating on Rasmus....I'm actually like what he's been doing lately..he just needs a touch more polish and he could be very dangerous.
  6. you're going to used advanced pitching stats on a sample size of less than 30 innings? That's grand...delabar has looked fine and I like him in our bullpen...loup, janssen and cecil have been good...oliver hasn't been as good, but he's solid but hurt right now. We'll see what mcgowan can add to the pen..hopefully he performs well...because that would give 5 pretty solid guys...your 6th and 7th guys on most teams aren't usually that outstanding.
  7. he's only had 6 at bats against lefties, but he's looked entirely different against righties as well. His approach is different. His walk rate is way up. He's patient using all fields. He doesn't in any way resemble the adam lind of past year's. You give him significant bats against lefties and I think his ops would be above .700....with an ops against righties over .900 you're talking about a much more productive player than anyone expected.
  8. When I watched the kawasaki winning double video they showed gibbons giving the handshakes and lawrie gave him a pat on the back that kinda looked like a gesture of him acknowledging he was in the wrong...I mean all he had to do was stop and think clearly for a minute to realize he was in the wrong. It was dumb, but time to move onward...
  9. That's grand...you used a 20 game sample size for a vet like Bautista to say he was yesterday's man ignoring a three year sample size, but for a younger guy like Rogers you look back three years. There's no telling when the little adjustments are made to turn a bottom 6 fastball into a top 6 fastball. It's all about command. If you actually read my post you would have saw that I said I wasn't the biggest fan of Rogers, but he does have upside and was showing signs last year. Aviles will come back to earth and Gomes will too. I think Rogers has the highest ceiling, but he may never find it, but both aviles and Gomes are replaceable. It's hardly the worst trade in history and the jury on it is still out.
  10. The article does talk about the good and bad.....The Jays need to promote Thole. There is no one pushing him. Blanco isn't going to take his job, at least Thole is young. I would bring up Thole and say to JP you take a walk in the next 5 games or you're sitting for 3 games....you swing at more than 7 pitches out of the strikezone in 5 games and you're sitting 3 days. JP with a quarter of the plate disciple of Jose bautista would be a very good hitter. He has no discipline at the moment and he still has a .731 OPS...he has 30 homerun power. I understand people's frustration with JP. I just about threw my remote through my tv a couple games back because of JP. He doesn't have to develop into a patient hitter. He just needs to have a little more patience and understanding.
  11. Gomes has had 64 plate appearances....I think you are over reacting. I'm not the biggest Rogers fan in the world, but he's not that old either and to call him Atrocious is a little overstated. Rogers has some good tools. Aviles numbers are a career high, Isturis numbers are career low numbers...these things have a way of evening out...it's still early in the season. People really feel the need to define things and make judgements. I understand this and am guilty myself of this. You want to use performance and statistics to back up your arguements, but often the sample sizes simply aren't large enough. I remember on the old board when I was talking about Jose Bautista being an elite player early on in the season when he was struggling and had a .750ish OPS and you said I was living in 2011...well deja vu....Jose Bautista's .955 OPS is 4th in the AL.
  12. that's the thing...ricky gave up one run through 5...have a very solid game...get's into the 6th and walks four straight....he beat himself....he's fine until he runs into some point of distress and then folds up mentally...he's not done...he's still got talent...
  13. it's funny why fans boo ex players. Some fans boo ex players because they played poorly with the jays. Some boo players because they weren't that nice of guys more than their actual play..which is the case in Yunel's case. Some boo ex players no matter what.lol. When you talk Hill, Wells, Overbay, Johnny Mac....they were good guys who may have played poorly at times, but not due to lack of effort. These type of guys I would never boo....
  14. The big players AA brougth in were Reyes, Dickey, Buehrle and Johnson. I still believe Dickey will round into form. Reyes was doing everything you expected and will be back....he's one of the best short stops in the league. It's been the players already with the Jays who have let the team down..namely Morrow, Lawrie and Romero. Still time for Morrow and Lawrie to turn things around, but they have to start playing better...
  15. 7 With Dustin's clean inning in his first with Buffalo he now has 3 clean innings with one infield hit and 5 strikeouts and no runs allowed in 3 innings. The only reason he isn't with the big club today is because he's not eligible....I'd bet my left nut that he gets recalled as soon as he is eligible, which I believe is may 30. Less than 2 weeks till Dusty is back!
  16. Lind needs to be in the 4 hole and he needs to play against lefties...the article said lindy has swung at something like 10 pitches outside the strikezone...that's insane. He's clearly got a much better approach at the plate and should be given an extended run against some lefties, He's clearly got a different approach and is a different hitter than he was in the past so his past stats against lefties have lesser relevance. His OPS is above .900 now...how do you sit that as often as gibby does?
  17. I posted yesterday they should just get him in buffalo already..lol. I'd bet a decent sum of money that on may 30 mcgowan goes to the big club and lincoln is optioned to Buffalo.
  18. at the time I posted the daily stats hadn't updated so I estimated .880.....not bad for quick guestimate..it's .878. I'm well aware of baseball reference...but at the time I posted his .OPS stats didn't include the homer, single walk game which pushed it up to that .878 level.
  19. I highly doubt Mcgowan will ever pitch 5+ innings in one game out of the bulllpen....and besides..he's on the miracle delabar program...no more injuries!
  20. just send dustin to Buffalo already....
  21. Delabar obviously has to cut down on the walks..but you can't ignore the 10.6K per 9 innings...he cleans up a lot of those walks by striking guys out...2.05 ERA. We traded Thames for him.....I'd say he's more than doing his part. Lindy...Lindy...Lindy.....he's not only positive but outperforming expectations. He's got an .880ish OPS right now...I'm too lazy to calculate it. Most people would have taken .750 out of Lind at the start of the season...hopefully Lindy can keep it up. Bautista is positive for sure..hardly unexpected though. Most of our bullpen really....loup, cecil, Oliver, Janssen, delabar all 3.00 ERA or less....definitely solid. On the cusp of turning from liability to positive....Melky for sure..his body of work for the entire year is not totally positive..but he's on fire and I assume, same for Edwin and Lawrie is a bit further off but in this camp....JPA and Colby are pretty much where I expected...Offense and bullpen looking formidable.....just have to get the rotation going...wasn't really expecting that pick up to come from ortiz and jenkins...but what the hell...I'll take it!
  22. I miss one inning and the jays score 5....hey gibby maybe we should play lindy a bit more often and have him hit ahead of guys like JPA...lindy with an ops around .875 now...crazy..
