  1. Edwin put up 5 straight years huge offensive years averaging 145ish games a year of production. I'd rather commit 4 years at 20+ million than having the smoak and pearce show. I'd feel much better if we had Lind and pearce going into next season. The smoak signing was a bad one. I remember people saying how we had to have Jeff Baker to platoon with Lind and Jeff Baker crashed and burned. Pearce has never played a full season and missed the end of last season due to injury. Projecting what he will do comes with a far greater range and margin of error than what EE will do next year. Pearce could play tremendously well and post an .850 OPS next year. I hope he does, but he could also post a .700 OPS.
  2. I'll take the under on a 5 win season....How much do you want to bet
  3. Steve is 34 next year and has never had more than 383 plate appearances in a season. He's had injury problems with the most recent being last September. I can't believe people are simply projecting him to be fantastic over the next 2 years expecting him to produce playing full time when he's never done that before. There's definitely a chance Steve crashes and burns. I hope he plays well or at least decent enough, but time will tell how smart keeping smoak and adding pearce for about 11 mil per season and committing 2 less years compares to simply signing edwin for more dollars and 4 years.
  4. Teams don't win the bid anymore with the 20 mil cap. There were numerous teams that bid 20 mil for tanaka so he was able to negotiate with multiple teams and get 155 from the Yankees.
  5. Why are you posting a link to something written in April
  6. I missed the discussion if it took place. I can't follow bjmb 24/7...I just have time to waste today.
  7. I bet the Jays would put a very solid offer in place that would likely finish in 14th place in the bidding process
  8. and yet the answer to the question likely has a wide spectrum of opinions, which makes it interesting if not original.
  9. would an al team let him hit is the interesting question.
  10. If he was posted next off season, how much money would he get paid? Discuss.
  11. Did you forget to log into one of your many other accounts to praise yourself?
  12. What do you learn about a guys swing from two gifs....absolutely nothing. The first swing his timing was better, the second his lower half was quick and he was way out in front. There's a lot to like about Puig's swing. He doesn't have a long looping swing. There are some thing professional hitting coaches and players for that matter could work with him on and he could have a big turn around. His natural gifts are undeniable and the foundation of his swing is pretty solid. A couple minor tweaks could be all he needs to get back on track. Let's leave those tweaks to the professionals.
  13. you obviously didn't read all my posts then either. I took some liberal interpretations with his comments and acknowledged this in a subsequent post.
  14. I can give you a hug if that makes you feel better. I don't agree with the value people are placing on Eaton. I stated my opinion. Feel free to lay the ban hammer on me if you want to limit opinions. There was no hostility intended in my post. I hope King has a very pleasant day.
  15. he said it would take sanchez and then more to get Eaton. He did not specifically say that he would give up Sanchez plus. Thanks for the correction. I think if the Jays offered Sanchez straight up for Eaton, the Whitesox would take it every day of the week.
  16. Steamer has eaton projected to be a 2.6 win player and you'd trade Sanchez plus for him. Give me a break.
  17. getting EE or any free agent now should be significant given the fact that the competition is going to be extremely high in 2018 and 2019. The Yankees could and probably will spend money, but if they don't they will have less than 100 million committed for 2018 and they can spend up to 250 million. The phillies, which seem to be the forgotten team literally have almost no money committed for 2018 and beyond and they have the ability to spend close to 200 million. The phillies are just biding their time waiting for the 2018 and 2019 free agent classes and they are going to spend like drunken sailors. The upcoming off season's are going to be fun with the talent available and the dollars available. I don't see the Jays being big players in the next couple years.
  18. I can understand there are varying opinions on tulo especially with his injury history. I'm more positive than most. As far as Donaldson goes price got 7 217. Someone is going to offer Donaldson stupid money. Do you think shatkins seem like the type that will take the risk in years and dollars that it will take to sign Donaldson? They aren't risk takers.
  19. You're missing the point. There is no way we extend Donaldson whether we sign ee or not. If we sign ee or comparable talent or trade for talent we can be post season teams instead of 84 win teams wasting the opportunity of having one of the leagues best players for the next 2 years. I highly disagree with your opinion on tulo. He's going to be great next year
  20. Tulo will get paid 20 mil for his age 32, 33 and 34 seasons and then 15 and 14 mil for his 35 and 36 seasons. That's pretty reasonable and tulo has another 5 win season in him. If moving tulo is such a wise move then how do you justify giving Donaldson 7 or 8 years at 200 plus million when his first year would be his age 33 season
  21. Time to sign EE, trade for votto or sign cespedes.
  22. Morneau was an above average hitter 2 of the last 3 years and an above average hitter in the past three years when you put them together. Smoak has been a below average hitter. I said I don't really want either, but I still think morneau will have better stats next year
  23. Morneau has a career 116 wrc+...smoak's is 95. Even at 36 I'd take morneau over smoak and hope for a bounce back, but I really don't want either on the team.
  24. So why did our gm sign him to an extension?
