  1. Where exactly did you hear that Jose has no desire to come back to Toronto? You can't just make that sort of statement without a credible source.
  2. Just go sign Saunders for less
  3. What are the rules for how long you have to wait until you trade a player?
  4. There is still a chance Bautista signs. I think it is a long shot, but he might be forced into a one year deal because no one wants to give up the pick. I would be okay with the off season if they got Bautista back.
  5. Maybe that's true. I have no problem spending Rogers money. Rogers seems less inclined to spend it!
  6. Happ an Estrada were smart signings, no doubt, but it's not like they got paid nothing. They got paid like number 3s and played like number 2s. They could have played like number 4s. We made the wild card and Sanchez had a break out year. We had a very strong core last year. We've now lost EE, Bats, Cecil, Saunders and Benoit and brought in Pearce and Morales. Are we a better team? Smoak couldn't crack the ALCS roster last year, and we are counting on him to bigger contributor for 162. If this team, doesn't do something else we're just a team that has a shot at a wildcard, rather than being a team that is more of a favourite for a wildcard that can compete with the division. There's still time, but I don't see the team bringing back Bautista. Fowler is still off the board. Our bullpen is thin. I don't see the guy that is the difference maker to put us over the top.
  7. you don't sign free agents that give you the ability to compete without making enormous commitments. If we don't make any bad or potentially bad/scary deals, we may as well sell players now. What's the point of not making bad deals and having extra money in our pocket going into the year if we can't compete. An 84 to 86 win team is the worst team to have in baseball...ask the mariners. We may as well offload Martin, Donaldson and Tulo and save the money for future years.
  8. It's more of a general assumption. No GM signs a guy and a month later admits it was a mistake. It's human nature, you do everything in your power to make that work.
  9. I think they were sharing the bud with the front office when Smoak got his contract
  10. 20 mil is pretty fair value...they overpaid on Smoak and their ego won't allow them to admit a mistake.
  11. some people talk about Tulo and Martin as if their decline rate will have them in a wheel chair by the end of their contract. Martin played through injury last year that most wouldn't have. They both had historically bad first 6 weeks of the season. I'd bet both have better offensive numbers than they did last year.
  12. we still have to get bautista....there's no guarantee of that either.
  13. signing Smoak when they did was ridiculous. How was his free agent market going to be so hot that you had to extend him when they did. Worse case scenario they would have paid Smoak 5 or 6 mil a season for 2 if he had really turned it on in the last month and a half. He collapsed and the money we wasted on him was more than double what he would have got on the free agent market.
  14. who are the Jays going to trade...and there's no way Ozuna is being moved anyways
  15. just get rid of smoak and have pearce play left....sign EE
  16. what a joke. Attendance was up almost 20% and the Jays lead the AL in attendance numbers and were 3rd in the entire MLB. TV numbers have tripled over the last 5 years and that's not including the playoffs which had 4 million plus viewers or sportscentre drawing more than a million viewers following games....and the Jays are on track to reduce payroll this year.
  17. I was joking, but his market seems to be insanely stagnant for a guy who's been as consistent as he has need with the bat for so many years
  18. Who can we offload smoak on? Let's sign Edwin on a 1 for 20 and play Pearce in left.
  19. All I've read is how bad the white sox front office is, but they seem to have made a couple pretty good deals
  20. and why is that stupid?
  21. Isn't payroll at 133? 34 mil for both isn't that far off. Backload the contracts even a little 2.5 mil per in the first year for both and payroll is 162. Estrada and liriano come off the books next year and that's 27 mil.
  22. There's no reason why the bluejays can't afford to sign both straight up, but Bautista loves Toronto. The jays could offer Bautista 17 per year for 2 years and pay 7 mil per for 2 years and pay the 20 mil deferred in three equal payments in years 3 4 and 5. They could get creative because I think Bautista wants back and as long as he's a free agent in 2 years and gets all his money being paid over 5 years it isn't that big of a deal. Last time I checked inflation was pretty low even with trumps pro growth policies.
  23. Just sign both.
  24. We need to go get fowler. What's the backup plan if Fowler signs elsewhere.
