  1. At the beginning of camp last year it was reported that Kemp had dropped 40lbs. He put up 1.6 wins in 146 games. It's not unrealistic to believe Kemp could put up 1 to 2 wins next year as well.
  2. They got rid of Homer Bailey and added a very good starter in wood along with Puig and Kemp. You add some decent offense to a team that has Winkler, Gennett, Votto and Suarez. That lineup has pretty good length. They still need to add some pitching, but they have time, and they are rolling the dice because they don't have the depth to sustain a ton of injuries. If you never put your chips in the middle, you never have a chance to win. The Reds are definitely a team I'll be cheering for. I always love the under dog. How do you not like the Morton signing by the Rays, speaking of underdogs. What a great signing.
  3. Getting some pitching has to be priority number 2. The cupboard is bare
  4. my parents, who are in their 70s and get all their Jays news from reading the paper and watching the blue jays on TV, know that Romano is Canadian.
  5. sure you did.
  6. Can you send a guy to the arizona fall league if he's in the majors all year..lol
  7. It makes perfect sense because they are tanking. In the rule 5 you get 24 to 26 year old guys who have had lots off opportunity to prove themselves, but aren't very good. The Jays were able to get a high upside arm who's 18 years old and we don't really know what he is. Keep him in the bullpen all year long and next year he's back to the minors for development and you potentially have a good prospect.
  8. Morales has been a negative WAR player over the last 2 years. They absolutely don't need a full time DH.
  9. In 2016 the last year he played close to a full year at short he was an above average short stop. He had a positive UZR that year, and it's been stated multiple times by tulo that he's been dealing with heal issues for several years, so he wasn't even completely healthy when he put those numbers up. If he is healthy, the guy can likely still play defense at a league average clip and if he's healthy he can likely still hit at a league average or better clip. Would have been nice to see him in spring training to see if he's healthy or not.
  10. They had 38 million reasons to pray for a dead cat bounce. If he signs for 500K for a team and puts up a 3+ win season, they are going to look like fools. Why are they not dumping Morales if they are going to get rid of Tulo? Morales has been paid 22 mil to give -.4 WAR over the last 2 season. Give the young guys a chance.
  11. how much of the 38 mil do you think it would take to get tulo to just walk away?
  12. walker, walker, walker! He won't get in, but it ridiculous. I think Vlad's a hall of famer, but Walker was a better hitter, fielder and base runner and the gap in counting stats isn't enough not to put him in.
  13. There's nothing wrong with a 3 win player in 131 games and that's what Tulo put up in 2016. He put that up without 100% health. Yeah, I'm old and I like cheering for the old underdog. It's not like I'm betting my house that Tulo's going to return to being an above average player in 2019, but I don't think the chances of that happening are 0%.
  14. You here these comments from baseball commentators who have played the game. The guys on NBA radio were talking about this just the other day. You give the young guy playing time before they're ready, they are far less willing to accept the wisdom of veteran guys who have made all the mistakes they go through. They feel like they're the man. It also puts added pressure on younger players. It has nothing to do with effort. Regardless, Tulo should be given every opportunity to show what he has if he's healthy. Even if he's healthy he's going to get days off. Gurriel can play second. Tulo will get a lot of games at DH if he's healthy. There are plenty of at bats for both guys to be had. You don't think the ultra competitive Tulo isn't going to upset reading those comments? How does that help a clubhouse.
  15. Tulo has been dealing with this injury as well as others for the last few years. Even dealing with these issues he put up a 3 win season in 2016. He's always been an above average defender, despite the issues he likely was dealing with while on the field. Now how is Tulo feeling health wise at this moment in time? I have no idea. Everyone knows that the guy has had injury problems and the risks that are associated with him. Atkins could have used more ambiguous language. Pissing off your highest paid player, who should be providing leadership for a young group of guys, is a terrible way of going about things.
  16. Yeah, egging on, aka getting a reputation for disrespecting veteran players, is going to go a long ways to helping the Jays sign future free agents. Well done. Come out public and hand a job to a rookie before camp begins. I'm sure that won't get to his head. Keep those young guys hungry and motivated by handing them the keys to the new sports car.
  17. Given how good the Yankees and Sox are, we better get used to term. If we don't give extra years for guys who's going to come to the Jays over the next few years. We're going to have a lot of cash to spend in a couple years, but it won't do us any good if we can't convince anyone to come here.
  18. I remember when the Jays were crazy for giving Bautista 65 over 5 because he only had one good year. Corbin will turn 35 in the last year of his contract. Corbin had a 2.47 FIP. That's at the level of an ace. If he puts up numbers any where close to that the next 3 years the deal is going to look cheap. I'm not saying there isn't risk, but I don't think you need to average the last 3 years for every player to determine his value. No guts no glory.
  19. That's just crazy...but you may be right....10 to 12 years at an AAV closer to 40 than 30 would scare the crap out of me. Too many injury issues.....he isn't a good defender today...what's he going to look like when he's in his mid 30s?
  20. I'd roll the dice on Lance Lynn with a 2 years plus an option deal.....2 years 18 mil with an additional 11 mil option and 1 mil buyout. He's still relatively young for a free agent and could have some big upside.
  21. Kelenic was a 6th overall pick. Maybe they rate him very high. It's not inconceivable that Bruce and Swarzak could have decent starts next year and they could get moved at the trade deadline. They didn't kick in 50 mil, they kicked in 20. There's a big difference in that number. You can't expect much back if you're only willing to kick in 20. A couple intriguing prospects and bit more of a long shot prospect. I just don't think the deal was laughably bad.
  22. getting out of the 36- 40 years of Cano wasn't an easy task. Doesn't seem that bad a deal to me.
  23. well if you get the job, welcome to Rider Nation.
  24. There's zero discussion around trading Jansen so you don't have to worry about whether or not Shatkins will listen on offers.
  25. We didn't add a piece or a lottery ticket. I'd rather roll the dice on Aledmyz. He looked great in the 2nd half of last year. A good start to the season and we could have trade him at the deadline for a real lottery ticket or piece.
